Had the privilage to see the legend that is Johnny Moore do this track on more than one occasion. Two years before he passed away he was still up there doing what he did best. Entertaining the masses that came to see The Drifters. He was and always be in my mind as one of the greatest vocalist that graced our world. A true legend in his own right.
This version of the song is way faster than the original from the record. I realise this is live but its like they are in a race. compare it with the record version posted by evilnette1970. Don't get me wrong, it's in tune and stuff but the speed is amazing, still good though.
This brings back so many great memories. A group of us after work would regularly make the 150 mile round trip to Ceasars Palace in Luton. A full floor Show Fabulous Compère and Johnny Moore leading the Drifters to cap it all CLASS All we get served up by Cowell and Co. now is .....yuk
I love Tony Macaulay so much - why isn't he an OBE? He wrote this smash with another classic British songwriter, Roger Greenaway, who was rightly made an OBE.
im gonna be honest i listen to clubland a lot now but when i was younger i used to sing the drifters with my dad on the karaoke and listening to this now you can see the high standards of there music to todays electronicly modifyed music, but no matter what i listen to now i will always listen to the drifters
i remember when i was a blue coat at barry island in 1996 and they came and done a show in the ballroom, the lead singer had to keep taking gas, looked not to well but hell he and the others put on a great show.
i hate hearing people saying my generation have no taste in music im 16 music is slowly fed to us and slowly the genre changes, i like the drifters > Elton john > fleet-wood mac > usher > Eminem > rihana > Metallica etc this is me don't judge generations before generations did the same thing. Don't turn music into racism, ageism , bigotry or sectarianism. its there to please not to help piss off another culture or such etc
7richie think thats weird wot about Neil Sedaka's sweet sixteen a paedo's lyrics if ever I heard any. Great song great singer just the thought of the lyrics today or were we less aware of the implications back then? The dirty old men brigade is not a new concept the issue is only more open today thank God!!!!
Brilliant song, brilliant group. but does anybody else find it funny that 4 fully grown men are singin about pickin up a girl from school? Hmmm i smell some jail time for these lads ;-)
@ 31 yrs old, I remember living in Salford & dancing round with my Mam (I was too young to play out with my sisters) whilst she polished n hoovered ect lol, love this song & Saturday Night! many memories :-)
Thanks for posting, Johnny Moore was awesome, Where are these talented kind of folks these days. Rap really killed a good history, thanks for keeping it alive.
Johnny Moore was an absolute talent. The way his confidence, singing and charm...look at the fellow Drifters, they just totally shone on that stage. If there were comparisons between the different Drifters, this 4-some were the real deal
Oh it brings back so many memories of being in the ABC cinema in Cheltenham UK on a sat morning..................5 pence to go in with your girlfriend.

What year was this show recorded ?
I'd say 1978 or 1979 since she said she has been in the industry 25 years.
So that makes it 1953-1954 which was about right.
