seriously it's not a vw beetle. to be honest though. if they made the 911 like the cayman, with the engine more toward the middle instead of hanging on the back end (even though porsche know how to make a suspension to cope with it) it would be even better.

@MagicAyrtonforever Not if they continued to sell the 911. They should sell both the 911 and Cayman with the same engines and performance upgrades. Porsche is great at advertising, and could easily sell the Cayman off as the more hardcore performance model, and the 911 as the more iconic and everyday-usable model. Lets be honest, Porsche is very keen on filling in niches in the buyer's market. They could easily move the Cayman up a few rungs when they release the 550 Spyder (VW Bluesport).

the porsche is not a vw idiots.. porsche sold VW about 19 months ago, it was a big mistake. The only porsche that was a vw was the 924 and isnt even a porsche. Read the history. As for people saying porsche is ugly is fo the jelous people that know there sad little lives will never ever have a 911

Also, I wish Top Gear had a Carrera S with the x51 performance option on it. It brought horsepower up to 381 and torque to 306 lb-ft. I don't know how much of a difference it would have made, but, since the Audi has 414hp, it would have helped a bit.

I think the 911 is ugly as hell, and was a bad idea from the very start. sure they're high-tech and stuff, but they look about as good as a 5 dollar whore. yet it costs around 150,000! @ryan1the8grate The 997 Carrera S was no where near $150,000. It was around $82,000 (2006). Of course, that's without the many options that Porsche forces you to check off to get the car you really want. Realistically, it's probably around $90,000.  That is still expensive, but, it's a toy for the rich, so, who cares? I think you're thinking of the Turbo, or, Turbo S, which would destroy the R8--at least at the time of this show. The v10 R8 wasn't around then.

The R8 is far from silent. Right after it came out I had one overtake... well... fly by me with two (!) 911 Carrera w/ sport exhaust systems following it. If I hadnt turned my head to enjoy the scene, I wouldnt even have noticed that there were any cars at all behing the R8, because the R8s V8 and NOTHING ELSE was all you could hear, not even the slightest whisper from a 911 was to be heard.
