well, the first thing i noticed was that the guy uses different stances for his slice serve and kick/flat serves. i hope he worked on that. easy to find out how he is going to hit his serve.
@Kiser153 uh okay, haven't noticed the different racquets. but it would be easier to show the differences of ball toss and technique with only 1 guy hitting the serves. beginners might also not notice that there are 2 guys hitting different serves.
@415Underdog Top Spin serve is thrown right over your head and you brush up on the ball, spin serve is tossed to the side and you brush on the side of the ball
I dont really understand why, but when i do my slice serve, if i land it, it barely moves forward at all. It usually lands in the middle of the box, then spins straight sideways out of court.
@GetMySkin Me too, for some reason I can't hit any spin on my serves, if I try to it lands short or goes to the opposite service box. I guess I'm not hitting upward enough.
@petechett Don't hurt yourself. I know many have tried to replicate Roddick's technique and many have injured themselves doing so. Get your basics down before attempting such a maneuver.
fyb2007 says to have the racket face point towards the court you are aiming to and just use the way the racket is moving to put spin but this is saying to hit the outside so there is spin!!! WHICH ONEE???
i dont know which to trust!!! they both have such good lessons
Well I know Rafa Nadal always uses slice serve ( since hes a left, his serve will curve to a righty's backhand ) And I think Roger mostly does topspin
@Genius2419 Every professional tennis player has their first serve as a flat serve. If it doesn't go in then they use (most likely) a top spin serve knowing that there is a high chance of it getting in and difficult to return (if carried out successfully).
This is way weird for me because, I just started really playing a few weeks ago, and I dont even know how to do a basic topspin serve, and even when I try to, I end up doing a slice serve...lol
Using Eastern Backhand for flat serve for me keeps the ball down on impact, about 6 inches off the court. The velocity is over 100 mph which really frustrates my opponents. Most good tennis players don't like serves out of the strike zone.
Nice instruction, I use eastern backhand for all my serves. This really imparts way more spin for slice, kicks and twist serves. The eastern backhand is a bit more difficult to master, pronation for flat serves are really difficult to master. I confuse my opponents with eastern backhand serves. Give it a shot and see how you do.
3:06 how is anyone supposed to get that? lol its so fast and so far left lol

@deagmomo thats because they are two different people...
you can see at 4:44 that the two different guys are on opposite sides of the court

@deagmomo yeah i agree, they look similar.

Using 4:06 as an example, here are a few tips:
1)Keep on your toes as the guy does when he throws the ball up and feet apart for comfort.
2)When raising the arm, allow the hand holding your racquet to be at or above the height of your head.

when learning how to play tennis, whats the most difficult thing about it? (footwork/feet coordination, serving, racket control, etc)
ronaldofever 1 year ago
@ronaldofever for me, i thought it was a mixture between the timing of hitting the ball and the racket control.

should you spin the ball on the toss for a slice and topspin or not?
SexyLeprechaun28 1 year ago
@SexyLeprechaun28 It really doesn't make any difference because the racket speed will make any spin you put on the ball as you toss it negligible.
