Giuseppe, Du warst so ein toller Künstler, ein wunderbarer Kollege, und ein großartiger Familievater!!! Du wirst uns immer fehlen, aber, Gott sei Dank, es gibt ja großartige Tondokumente von Dir!!!
I heard Taddei live a couple times. I think he must have been as old then as I am now. He sang a long time. He did almost 300 roles. He was more of a bass-baritone than a true Verdi baritone like Bastianini or Cappuccili. That let him sing Leporello and many Rossini basso-buffo parts. Like Cappechi he over acted when singing in Italian to people who didn't speak Italian.
Hmmm....shame he was so covered up by the orchestra on the G. I think when talking about the "most attravtive, pliant, expressive and....large Verdi baritone in history" one must not forget Ruffo. I must say I like Terfel a little better. I think if he (Terfel) had more time with the role, we would see his interpretation really bloom into something magical, but I fear Wagner will be the end of his Falstaff.
Taddei had the most attractive, pliant, expressive and when needed, large Verdi baritone in history. Great at Mozart as well...but Falstaff is his signature. Terfel plays a great Falstaff. Taddei as someone said earlier...IS Falstaff. And oddly enough, Karajan brought it out better than anyone.
Who is Simone? Is this Verdi's role? Simone Boccanera? I generally don't like Verdi's musik. I love verismo, but Taddei wasn't ideal Scarpia. Instead He was great Geronte di Ravoir
Danke für dieses wunderbare Video.

Taddei, fra i più grandi Falstaff di sempre.

sono d'accordo. Anche Gobbi era portentoso, ma personalmente io preferisco Taddei!!!!! il Falstaff più completo era lui.

Boccanegra. Have you seen him on stage in the part of Scarpia with del Monaco or P-M Ferraro?
