  • Actually the lyrics come from one of Dante Alighieri's sonnets, it's a dialogue between him and his beloved Beatrice

  • This isn't Latin, it's Old Italian

  • great music

  • I've always liked how Hannibal spins around really fast at the song's end to see if Det. Patsi is looking at him. LOL

  • thank you for the translation i always wished to know the lyrics for this great great piece of music

  • @MrAppleSunshine, Unfortunately we are all wormmeat and destined to be at our best, fertilizer for the coming generations. I am requesting the 1986 Reels version of Bad moon rising as my sendoff from the planet. This goes in keeping with my rather pessimistic view on todays society and the future of our kind. Brilliant and touching song, what a pity.

  • My girlfriend and I kissed to this song.

  • 521 people can see their heart, 3 people got their heart eaten.

  • So beautiful:) ♥

  • Am I going to hear this when I enter heaven?

  • @MrAppleSunshine No, not you. ;-)

  • 3 people have no soul :(

  • *meant

  • beautifully sung by Danielle De Nise from the hannibal movie

  • So, Who's psyched about the Hannibal T.V. show coming out soon that's set between 'Hannibal Rising' & 'Red Dragon' ?

  • @guerrillajack WHAT?!!

  • @Mommysaurus2112 i lisetn to it myself to put myself to bed...lol its a beautiful song!

  • I play this every night to put my daughter to bed.

  • goose bumps every time

  • i told her, see my heart, see my love

  • this song, vide cor meum, is like a distant memory, like a former life. I feel nostalgic when I hear it. good music always makes you FEEL something. this song conveys a complex emotion to me. its an emotion after tragedy and past grief but not yet entered into peace yet. its like the time before dawn.

  • Os tres que não gostam dessa musica são tres debéis mentais.

  • A great villain always loves the classical music. Especially when he's killing people and tearing off their faces.

    Ah, Hannibal.

  • @Wystearya Moriarty is much better than this brutish sadist!

  • Who is the 3 guys that voted Dislike to this, mental with no sense???

  • it's italian too

  • The words to Vide Cor Meum were taken from Dante's La Vita Nuova (The New Life) where Dante describes his first forays into poetry. Vide

Cor Meum is concerned with the first sonnet where Dante describes a vision he had and asks for help in interpreting it. As Dante tells it, when

he was 9, he became quite smitten with a little girl he called Beatrice. He only saw her in passing but was soon obsessed with her.

  • Tata.

    H.

  • I MUST BE GETTIN OLD AS I LOVE THIS AND HANNIBAL IS FASINATING

  • Makes a Cannibal film BEAUTIFUL :DD

  • And this is a perfect time to show how inarticulate the english laguage is. These words sound beautiful in latin, but look at the translation.

  • @hadesstix The English language is wonderfully articulate. It is one of the world's most complex languages with an immensely broad and rich vocabularly, borrowing from dozens of others. It's limitations, if any, certainly didn't stop Shakespeare being articulate. However, I would agree that when spoken or sung it's not as pleasing to the ear as Italian.

  • Girl i knew was thousand times more evil no tears just abhoare , never spoke again , never will .. never

  • this song wasn't written in latin but in italian! And it's sooo beautiful, thanks for sharing!!!

  • Vide cor meum - see my heart...very fitting for a film about a cannibal ^^

  • Beautiful on each and every level. Don't seek fault, just enjoy.

  • Love it...marvelous!

  • The song was made on the basis of the first sonnet of "La vita nuova" from Dante Alighieri (the author of the "Divine Comedy"). That's why the lyrics are so powerful and great. Btw. the original is written in 'ancient' italian language (Volgare Illustre), not easy to transpose to current italian. Can you imagine translate it to English. To me it doesn't make sense. But you can still get the meaning of the sonnet from the text here above reported. Good job indeed.

  • Magnificantly well written piece. Who needs Simon Cowell. ha ha

  • Magnificantly well written piece. Who needs Simon Cowell. ha ha

  • the song isnt based on the movie, the movies isnt based on the song

  • truly one of the best things on Tube. Impossible to get to the end without a few tears and I'm just not the sort of person who easliy gives way to emotion. Thanks so much and congrats on the translation.............a noble effort. You are a rightous person.

  • This is the reason I went back to that film.

  • EXELENTE SONIDO...

  • So the movie revolves around the song...

    yea that makes sense.

Why didn't they substitute a famous overture by mozart or beethoveen?

  • wooow, great, I didnt listen to any Opera until now..

  • What was the reason for writing an opera specificaly for the movie? Copyright laws?

  • @Dillingerman1 they made the movie for the song

  • Comment removed

  • Dont be stupid, they made the film from th thomas harris book.

  • ..........curioso, este es el tono de mi móvil........

Io sono in pace (Ahora, estoy en paz

    Cor meum corazón mío.

Io sono in pace Ahora estoy en paz,

Vide cor meum míralo así, corazón mío)

  • amazing

  • Will be singing this piece at The Bridgewater Hall on the 6th February 2011 during our concert with Sing Live. This is the first time I have listened to it on YouTube and am crying. Goodness knows how we are going to be able to sing this through our tears. It is just soo beautiful.

  • i very wonderful song :)

  • One of my all time favorite pieces.... I appreciate your efforts on the translation, perfect or not. I would have never known. Thank you. A suggestion: its best enjoyed with a nice cigar and a 1/4 glass of JW (Johnny Walker ) Blue

  • This musical piece is sooo brilliant! I thank you APlasticDoll for the translations, I don't care if it is right or wrong, but the message is really in the song and instruments, though. Thanx for the vid!

  • When I here this I cry...my mind and my heart becomes one, and the manifestation of endless bliss reaches far deeper than a journey time and space. Amen.

  • @my1rule

beautifully put, that passage is so sensational

  • ah beautiful just beautiful this just pulled my heart well done to everyone who sang this song hats off to all of you lot. Alot of people say i talk like anthony hopkins but am funny like hannibal?

  • lyric : E pensando di lei Mi sopragiunse uno soave sonno Ego dominus tuus Vide cor tuum E d'esto core ardendo Cor tuum (Chorus: Lei paventosa) Umilmente pascea. Appreso gir lo ne vedea piangendo. La letizia si convertia In amarissimo pianto Io sono in pace Cor meum Io sono in pace Vide cor meum

  • Превосходно. Браво!

  • Wonderful,See your heart,How appropriate

  • pure awesomeness! Thanks for making the translation!

  • extremely peaceful this is what i listen to before going to bed so that it echo's through my mind as i sleep it is the ultimate stress reviler does anyone else do this?i love this song <3

  • @TheHayes321 so I am not the only one then...

  • @hadesstix i thought at first i was just weird but now i know others have this felling for this song :)

  • @TheHayes321 I hope you mean "stress reliever" lol

  • @TheHayes321

I agree. I close my eyes, and let the music drift into my subconcious, and all my fears/worries melt away. Carol

  • @TheHayes321

I'd love to do the same, but I have this uncomfortable sensation that something might happen while asleep, if you know what I mean. It is that scary!

  • @TheHayes321 ABSOLUTELY!!!

  • beautiful music

  • my favourite piece of music ever,it always makes me cry,i will have it played at my funeral, thank you aplasticdoll, thank you

  • @donsee1000 I want the theme song for "Maggie and the ferocious beast" played at my funeral. =)

  • beautiful in both languages

  • "La letizia si convertia in amarrisiomo pianto"

"La joie est convertie en larmes ameres."

"The joy is converted to bitterest tears"

Languages are really something overnatural and fascinating.Dont you think ?

  • I personally don't care english latin whatever it suit's me well, for my soul when i lose the people that i love

  • enchanting

  • This is about the hundredth time I have listened to this over the past 3 days. After a long break from opera music (this song in particular (for no reason)) I am so pleased to have this haunting piece sending shivers once again through me. I love it. Thanks for the translation, too!

  • Brutal

  • i cannot get through this piece without tears

  • I Guess.

  • beautiful, thanks for the english translation

  • If, when you die you hear this music, you must be in heaven.

  • C4932 - ? - AGAIN ?

  • @rufus99999 so what i like commenting on my favorite song. Don't you?

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I was thrilled to find the Hannibal soundtrack and I play this song A LOT! Thanks for posting the lyrics. I definitely got misty-eyed!

  • ok im not exactly a common classical fan..iv got piercings all over my face tattoos im a rocker but..never the less this piece moved me ever since i heard it in hannibal i think the word the wamphyr used just describes this perfectly "ENCHANTING" its beautiful

  • I don't know the movie, but I like the song. Its very nice

  • Whoever doesn't like this video needs to go fuck themselves

  • superb best version i am going to have this tattooed on my back someday LOVE this song <3

  • thankyou thomas Harris for the books, and for whomever shipped this most amazing music into my world, blows me away , every time, astounding.

  • Don't worry about it Plastic Doll, thanks for the translation.

  • It's actually italian and latin. Strangely they mix the two languages...wild I know! haha

  • such a very good music for a requiem

  • this song swells tears up

  • Hey that's what Hannibal said to the lady afterwards.

  • Thank you for this. It was very nice and much appreciated by me.Latin and Italian- Kudos. I wish you success in all your endeavors. KIND gestures like this will help people appreciate this piece of music that much more.

  • @heartholder143 - It's unfortunate that you do not often find such genuine pouring of appreciation extended to someone of anonymousness.

  • @evamjh - thank you. We live in a somewhat jaded and anger filled world. Music is the one thing that all persons should appreciate. For someone to invest time to allow others to better appreciate something is a gesture of true kindness and should be recognized. the melody without words still stirs the soul. Thank you again and may good things come to you.

  • I think you did great on the Translation

  • One of the most bueatiful pieces of music I have ever, heard. We are having this at our wedding next year,I dont really care what she's singing about. Many thanks for this posting.

  • infinitely wonderful

  • APDoll- stop defending yourself. If they think they can do a better job let them. 3 thumbs up from me so far- someone who studied Latin for 4 years :)

  • hannibal lecter is definitly the best movie villian inhistory no one can compete with him

  • agreed

  • @xboxmaniac117 except if there would be a movie about me and me farts

  • @xboxmaniac117 I'm not so sure, What about Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest. Now everyone I kno wants to Kill that Bitch :-P

  • Come on People, I know this Translation is not perfect. I just finished Taking Latin and am now learning Italian, However this Translation is not far from off at all. Half of the people Complaining about it, probably do not know the English or Lation Languages themselves fully anyhow, so there is no point in arguing. Just Enjoy! :)

  • @APlasticDoll What's Lation?

  • @Hannahdabeast a typo of latin.

  • @APlasticDoll nice to read you are learning italian. If you need help, I'll be happy to assist!

  • @APlasticDoll This is youtube, of course there will be arguing :P

  • @APlasticDoll You're absolutely right, you did very well, I'm studying latin, but I'm only 14, almost 15 years old, but I love it, I don't understand it, but you did a great job! congrats!

  • @APlasticDoll

U did it very well! I study Latin for now ... 3 years. U did it well, congratulation, mate!

Don´t listen to any idiot who says, it isn´t well made - they cannot make it even better!

    Greetings,

    Patrick

  • @APlasticDoll Hey, I greatly appreciated this translation...thanks!

  • @APlasticDoll I think it was pretty good, thanks for the posting :)

  • @APlasticDoll this isn't bad I'm studiing latin for almost 4 years but this isn't ancient latin and so it's even harder to transalate cause the latin isn't perfect itself

so i'd say no stress you did a great job and i hope your italian might be also this good in time

  • @APlasticDoll , don't be concerned with the opinions of people who post on this page. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. There are three distinct differences between you and those who responded with negative comments regarding your efforts - (1) you have the kindness to share your efforts, (2) you cared enough to try and translate it to the best of your ability and (3) everyone who posted something negative didn't do the first two.

  • it sounds better when in Latin instead of English and still is my favorite song :)

  • I can play this piece of music time after time after time and still get goose bumps. What a gift to be able to write such beauty

  • hope that helps

  • just beautiful

  • does anyone know were i can get the full letter that he reads to pazzi s girlfriend at the opera - and what is it taken from many thanks ?? cheers people !

  • Dante's persona from La Vita Nuova

  • Well done! Thanks so much for this.

  • I am also a bit surprised that the two movies are compared.

Indeed, Hannibal tells the story of the times preceding Lecter's subsequent 'adventures' and cannot be taken as a comparison but moreso as a story of Lecter's development, indeed a very sad and moving story, a justifiable reason for his subsequent 'insanity', if not justifying the actions of that insanity, if you know what I mean.

  • You should change the description. You say it's written in Latin, while it's mostly Italian (with only a little bit of Latin in the lyrics.)

  • 70 % italian as far as i know , i think she sings in latin and he sings mostly in italian

  • i heard that song in Kingdom of heaven too

  • Probably one of the best pieces of music I have ever listened too. Enchanting.

  • @TheWamphyr enchanting indeed for lack of a better word to describe this marvelous piece of music.

  • It's a great movie and it can't be said enough how beautiful this piece of music is.

It's one of those very few sublime pieces that catch you unaware it's descending at anytime of the day or night.

  • This song is so beautiful. I can feel what their saying.

  • One of the finest if not the finest (IMHO) modern arias. Well done Mr. Cassidy.

  • Hannibal was as good as Silence of the lambs to me, both films did very well and Sir Hopkins did a fantastic job in both films

  • everyones saying the silence of the lambs is better than hannibal as if its a fact. i think hannibal is beautiful and i enjoyed it more

  • The movie was never going to match the expectation from 'the lambs' but as a stand alone piece feel it was good.

This piece of music is absolute excellence from a humble opinion.

  • pure beuty to my ears the film frightend the crap out of me

  • only heaven could be more beautiful than this

  • Thank you for posting this song!:) Heaven on Earth

  • It's Italian as obviously Rome is the centre piece.

    Sono in Pace.

    Grazie.

  • @LewisJones1998 This music inspired me to visit Firenze [Florence] when many scenes from the film were shot.

I walked around with an MP3 player, headphones and this piece playing over and over...magical.

  • this was the most memorable part of this god awful movie. i immediately went out and got the soundtrack after seeing it. feels like listening to heaven.

  • @uncoverbrother

You really did not like the movie? I thought it was great.

  • Awful movie? Did we watch the same film?

  • @Miryr yup, we did. everybody on earth can't have the same favorite color, right? we're all different and that's okay...

  • I won't start a debate on how there's only a few variants in personality but I didn't mean it so seriously. I was just sort of baffled that you'd say this movie was awful.

  • @uncoverbrother well said personally out off all the movies the lambs was and still is my favorite but Hannibal has some off the best scene's out off the Hannibal lecture films. and it has the best sound track

  • thank you

  • Danke Dir!

    Thank you!

  • To those remarks on the use of language; latin or italian I give you this wikipedia quote:

"La Vita Nuova (English: The New Life) is a medieval text written by Dante Alighieri in 1295. It is an expression of the medieval genre of courtly love in a prosimetrum style, a combining prose and verse. Besides its content, it is notable for being written in Italian, rather than Latin; with Dante's other works, it helped to establish the Tuscan dialect in which it is written as the Italian standard."

  • awesome :)

  • also wenn ich sterbe dann mit dieser musik im hintergrund....

  • If this didn't win some awards, I'll be very dissapointed.

  • magical no other word`s come to mind !!

  • From La Vita Nuova, not the Commedia (Divine Comedy).

  • What can I say " Amazing " Thank you for posting this.

  • all I can say on this is cudos to the uploader...not sure if the translation is lost in the language barrier but it seems to be, or maybe english just isn't as romantic as latin.

  • No it´s not, spanish, french and italian are better to translate from latin they all come from it, english descends from Nordic languages.

El español es el mejor dude ;)

  • @yournamehere400

    as well as Latin

  • @hadesstix well thats for sure

  • Simply brilliant. Asked Patrick where I can here it live, but having seen Katherine Jenkins sing it live awesome. When I die this will play.

  • Thank you lye! I was being fooled by the film, which features TDC - I think.

  • this piece of lovefeeling and indescribable words

is so wonderful and i can describe with it a bit of my reduction to get an good athmosphere

  • Musique Sublime et émouvante!...

  • Thank you for that!! 5*

  • its to short :(

  • It's only short from the album because the last few seconds wern't part of the song. It's just Hannibal saying "Tata. H" and then loud, brief music ends it. Believe me, this was just as good without it.

  • Agreed - no length would satisfy me - so beautiful.

  • I didn't like the movie, but I immediately fell in love with this utterly beautiful piece of music ...I remeber, I went to buy the soundtrack on the very next day just because of this aria!
