  • Too bad Ken Barlow left....he was cool.

  • That Day Was So Scary!!!!!

  • I agree 100%. If you look at the yearly averages for Tornadoes you will see that MA has a higher percentage than the rest of New England. Especially the Metro West.

I used to live in So NH and remember many tornado producing storms. Now, I live in western Maine and believe it or not the town/county in which I live has had 6 tornadoes this past summer 2009 and as a result the town is talking about installing some type of warning system.

  • It is shocking they don't enough these days after the 1953 worchester tornado. It was one of the most deadliest tornadoes in US history. That tornado prompted a overhaul nationaly of our warning systems.

  • The worst tornado to effect eastern Massachusetts occurred on May 31st, 1998, as a funnel cloud was reported from Brockton to Halifax. Another funnel cloud was reported in Brockton on May 21st, 1996. The next day, I remember school was closed.

  • OMG! I remember this storm ...

It was the day of Warped Tour '08 ..

(My friends went) and they called me and said that they saw a funnel-cloud!

I remember I was freaking out the whole day haha

  • We had a Tornado Warning in NYC on August 15 2008 and it was pretty scary

  • OMG i cant believe this is in Road Island

  • I remember this day.

I was at my boyfriend's house (We live in Northern Mass) and his mom was watching this with us on his TV.

His little brother was freaking out like the tornado was coming towards us.

It was raining really really bad and the thunder was really loud.

  • The "EF" or Enhanced Fujita scale is the new *damage* scale that was put into effect February of 2007, to replace the old Fujita scale. The TV station couldn't have used this, because the "EF" ratings are only assigned by the National Weather Service after damage surveys are done. Are you possibly talking about the BTI (Baron Tornado Index) that's new this year on the VIPIR and FasTrac radar systems? The 1-10 radar based tornado predictor rating? If so, the color inside the rings show that. :)

  • Truly so... Tornadoes have occurred in all 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii. In fact, tornadoes have occurred all over the world and unfortunately that even includes places where you least expect them, such as Finland and Brazil. Most of the world's tornadoes do occur within the Continental U.S. (a.k.a. The Lower 48 States).

  • people who said: 'Tornadoes never happen in Rhode Island' are WRONG!!!! actually im hearing alot about twisters in new england latley. maybe new england tornadoes are not as rare as we all thought. i mean look at WBZ-TV in Boston, Mass. they have Viper Tornado Tracker! now if tornadoes were rare in New England then no Viper Tornado Tracker would be needed!

Rhode Island and Massachucets now needs tornado sirens.

  • well every so often we have them around new england but southern is rather rare but we do have them. But we have used to have alot during the 60's. maybe we are going into another active periode?

  • I have weather alerts on my computer and you wouldn't believe how many tornado watches/warnings have been posted this year. Last year wasn't bad at all, but the year before that was the same. Sure, we haven't had any major tornados since 1953 (an F4), but we certainly do get funnel clouds as well as microbursts (is that what they're called?). We had some very large/damaging hail on my daughter's b.day last month, too.

  • @1050HzSineWaveTone I suspect such tracking softwear may be standard equipment with many weather display systems used by TV stations.
