There was only one composer of this song. His name is HOWARD BLAKE. He composed it for the film The Snowman, where it was sung by Peter Auty in 1982. Tuomas Holopainen had absolutely nothing to do with it. In 1983 the Welsh treble, Aled Jones made the first commercial recording of it. The Nightwish version and every other version ever sung by anyone since, is a cover of this original performance by Peter Auty. Stop calling every version a cover of a Nightwish song. They are not.

Well, he does mention that it is a version of Howard Blake's original piece. It should probably say 'covered by Tuomas Holopainen, composed by Howard Blake,' but I have to give BahamutZero62 credit for the improv. He's very good. My guess is that he heard it from the Nightwish track, found some note attached to Howard Blake's name, and went with it.

maybe "composed" was the wrong term used, but the version from tuomas has its very own character and tuomas did quite a bit variation, adapting the song to nightwish. actually I think that the nightwish version carries a lot more charisma and power while the peter audy version is kinda flat. and that in this case "composed" was misplaced for "set" should not be the reason for an adult to launch such a tirade. kinda makes u look rather childish mike.

nightwish did a cover of this song but some other guy wrote it just for The Snowman in 1982. I thought it was Nightwish for awhile too, but its not it was originally sung by a choir soprano boy and not a female.... but nightwish does such a good job its hard to believe it isn't their song
