  • I have this episode on my VHS. Reminds me on wonderful childhood. Thanks :)

  • Ah, this brings back the memories! Those robots and the noise they make still scares me today. Excellent animation, superb storytelling, and perfect music....why do we have Dora the Explorer when people are capable of works like this?!

Oh, and I just noticed the robot stealing the jewels number keeps changing between 5 and 13.

  • @bubbleboy80 Because Dora is child-friendly and easily accesable and recognizable.

  • That molten looks so damn good. Like food good.

  • This was also the first time that Superman could fly and that was first time he demonstrated his X-Ray vision.

  • 5:53

What the fuck?! Can't Superman fly? Why the fuck is he falling?

  • @dstebbin he can not fly in this cartoon series, he jump buildings.

  • @grafito347 Really? I could have sworn that he flies in the first episode, "The Mad Scientist," which you can watch here:

    v=_frD6bGp63U

  • @dstebbin no flying for early superman. but i think he could angle himself in the air. also, he was just very tough. not indestructable as he is nowadays. and kryponite was only invented because the radio actor who played superman got a cold on one of the shows. and they couldnt really say supes fell ill to the common cold, so they invented kryptonite to weaken him :)

  • @themodernhero No, look at the first episode. He was CLEARLY flying! Look at him battling that you can start and stop in mid air, and that's not flying? He shot himself upward, then stopped for a brief moment to punch the laser, and then started going upward again!

Angling yourself in mid air is one thing. Changing your SPEED in mid air... that's flying!

  • @dstebbin in the comics he cudnt fly. in these cartoons he's jumping with a hint of possible flight except this one episode, the first, and i think they played about with the idea of flight, but either decided, or were told to go back to super jumps. note the quotation at the start "able to leap tall buildings in a single bound". And also, a final thought, he could be gliding... and gliders technically aren't flying.

  • @themodernhero Gliders don't stop in mid air, and then start moving again without touching the ground first.

And yes, in the original comics, he couldn't fly. You know why he started flying? THIS CARTOON! While it doesn't make a difference in comics, in cartoon animation, it is easier to draw him flying than it is to draw him jumping. So, the cartoon asked DC comics to incorporate flight into Superman's arsenal.

    I know my shit, man.

  • @dstebbin You are right. But wouldn't you say that was an improvement.

  • @dstebbin You are right. But wouldn't you say that was an improvement. But the cape does in fact suck.

  • @1xuandolrf Yes, I WOULD say that it's an improvement. That's why I'm wondering why he isn't flying, now.

Why would they have him fly in the first episode, but take away his flying ability int his one? The series lacks continuity!

  • This is also before the character of superman was fully developed. If you noticed, when these cartoons frist came out, he only had super strength such as the eleventh hour episode. Later he developed the other abilities. They deviated from the original idea though. In these cartoons, he was raised in an orphinage. In the original comics, he was rased on a farm, just like in the shows today.

  • this shit be really good! ! !

    fuck. wtg circa 1940s ! ! i wish i had you to stimulate my imagination. . .

  • i thought the sun or fire makes him stronger. so why are there dumb ass robots trying to burn him up. mad scientist should have done his research.

  • @lucienwright Maybe you should have. Its yellow sun radiation that makes him stronger not heat/fire

  • @gokujam thanks for clearing that up. obviously you have done your research. i have to get back to my real job now. 10 points for you though.

  • Way to go Vincent Price ! you just dumped 500,000,000 dollars of the worlds rarest gems you twat !

  • Those robots are in direct violation of the three laws

  • lol Clark Kent reminds me of Stan Smith from American Dad..

  • i must of watched this a hundred times as a kid..

  • Wow, that man is just evil. Having lois dangling above a boiling pot of lava and having those robots blasting fire at Supes. This was pretty brutal.

  • Of the Superman cartoons they made back in the 1940's...I'd have to say this is the best one.

  • Lois is an idiot. In the first episode of this series she knocks on the mad scientist door, now this.

One day Super is gonna say "On your own hussy."

  • Superman just phoned and didn't give a shit till his bitch was in danger. So much for order and justice.

  • My part is when Superman uses his cape to deflect the molten steel! Great image!

  • I wish they had made some of these for Batman. That would have been really cool

  • This is a good one. What year is this from?

  • @TheBoyAintRite the 1940s is when they were made but this one came out November 1941

  • it's a bird it's a plane it's superman !!!

    classic cartoon, indémodables !!!!

  • This animation is amazing

  • Man I so grew up on this, it's big part of my childhood because it SO COOL!

  • Clark: That's a wonderful story Lois.

Lois: Thanks, but I owe it all to Superman.

Clark: You sure do bitch, you sure do.

  • i cannot believe this animation is from thew forties. its great. even be today's standards.

  • @guitar999beatlesrule, lol, you're totally right.

  • @guitar999beatlesrule What do you mean todays standards? Traditional animation probably peaked in the seventies, it slid down after that with a slight rise with the Lion King, and another deep lull. Todays "Standards" involve basically 3D animation. A far stretch from the beautiful traditional animation.

  • @Designandrew Animation in general took a dive in the mid to late fifties.

  • @guitar999beatlesrule The animation may be great (it's hand-drawn, like a lot of today's cartoons), but the voice acting sucks ass!

  • @guitar999beatlesrule Yes, Max Fleischer was a genius.

  • @guitar999beatlesrule Yes, Max Fleischer was a genius. I find it amazing how he could fit so much story in so little time.

  • @guitar999beatlesrule

Especially with anime--there's probably more FPS in this episode than an entire season of Japanese...stuff...

  • @guitar999beatlesrule

People used to put much more work in animation, movies, songs, soap operas in the past.

I hate the times we are living in :(

  • @guitar999beatlesrule

I agree that it looks great! Animation from the 40's was usually better than animation today: Bugs Bunny, Fantasia, Bambi, Tom & Jerry...great stuff.

  • @guitar999beatlesrule There's a story as to why, y'know. 'Sides, Disney's first feature Snow White in the 30's is equally impressive.

  • i love superman

  • Thank you for putting these old episodes up. They're classic!
