Don't let the inefficient speaker rating fool you on the box regarding the 20w G12M Heritage speaker - it sounds as loud as my alnico blue to me, & every bit as good really. The tone is magical & much better than the cheaper 25 watt greenback made in China. That one's okay but not as clear & breaks up a bit faster too. The G12H Heritage definitely has more bass but the treble response is pretty harsh too if you're not careful. Good for a dark amp and/or guitar like a Les Paul. Hope this helps?!
Cool vid. If I was rich I'd have the G12M for recording and the G12H for live since it has a more cutting sound that would help it stand out while the G12M would sound better for recorded work where the warmth and nuance would be more easily utilized within the song structure.
@jonizefox i have a 12watt class A fargen amp i cant decide betwwen these 3 speakers 1.G12H 2G12M 3.Celestion Alnico Blue i play Blues/Rock your opinion would be greatly appreciated
I'm just a little home player... G12m has more character, G12H is more "all around". Playing strat and LP, clean and gain, the best way is to mix the 2, I think.
I plan to build a 1x12 and cannot decide too. Perhaps a G12m, to play gainy hard rock stuffs, but I wonder.
I don't know AlnicoBlue, but it is seems to worth its price if you play blues-rock.
Good job. I just got done comparing the stock G12M Greenback (Made in England) that came in a Marshall 1974x. Your results are very similar. I noticed that the M is way more efficient. I get a lot more volume from it than from the H. Also the H is more subdued with less bright chime. I liked the M better for the 1 X 12 combo because it felt more full range and more present. However, when I ran a Germanium Rangemaster into the amp, the H softened it up and made for a more pleasing lead tone.
@ReluctantSpider I agree for the 1x12 and 2x12 association (someday I'll built a 1x12 Bogner cube clone). My G12H 30W is louder than my heritage G12M 20W though.
Man, you did an outstanding job of jumping back and forth between the 2 speakers..seriously. The Greenies I thought were full-bodied and the G12H sounding dull.. gotta ask, you're saying the G12H 12th anniversary...that's not the G12H30 70th anniversary is it?? I'm loving my G12H30s alot and they're getting alot more high-end detail than the G12H 12th anniversaries your showing us here...Thanks!
The H has less highs? I thought it was the other way around?

Go the greenback.... sounds much brighter and defined. It has a better push through the mix as well.

Other way around dude... the 'H' is way more efficient... the 'M' is less efficient and not as bright as a 'H'.

@jonizefox Yeah he sure does -These days. But his rougher sound from the 70's maybe required another speaker(?)

I would choose the standard speaker for both type of guitars.
It is more open sounding.
