  • Excellent demonstration of the "snap" needed for these techniques!

  • Oss !

  • impressive - thank you for sharing your knowledge

  • As often you say alot I agree with. One thing I love about Yamaguchi Sensei is his abilty to drive forward whilst attacking (never on his back foot even when blocking) Pause him at the end point of his attack and his positioning is not dissimilar to a Royce Gracie demonstrating a standing take down (the moment before Royce drops his knee)

This principle could be adapted in many ways. We both know that getting a person to the ground requires wrapping your partner up. This is just one way.

  • who is your sensei,sensei's?

  • No sensei at the moment. The Sensie of the past sensie was Tani-ha.

Now dont ask these guys about kata.

They practice it but leave it to others to work out what it is

  • i understand your complaint about a lot of karate,i dont train in karate myself anymore so im not biased.sure a lot of depth is missing in application etc but this is one of asai students,

asai sensei karate was highly effective

  • excellent demonstration, but I can't help but laugh when he's flappin his arm at the start :P

  • Problem is it wouldnt work on a good puncher who retracts the arm as it should be.

Leave any arm out and there are lots of counter techniques.

He should demonstrate this on someone who can punch fast and retreacts the arm

    Wouldnt work.

The principle is good but not this application

  • u should spend more time training than critizicing others!

u seem to be everywhere on martial arts vids!LOL

  • Reality is more that I speak of. They should show these techniques against a decent puncher and Its a free world I can do as I like.

    Training?

    I do plenty of that.

    I presume you do?

  • ITS BROKEN DOWN TO SHOW AN OBJECTIVE,

    do u get it?

  • Yes it is all well and good showing an objective but once the objective is learned then it is time to practice on a live opponent.

    Now I do just that.

If I am working on parrying punches I work with lighter weight experienced boxers.

So as I said while I can see some use of what he is doing it should be demonstrated on a good puncher.

  • yes,its called jiyu kumite!

  • Now before I get the competition fighting is blah blah blah there are takedowns throws chokes and arm bars in shotokan.

Problem is some of you guys dont know your own kata so resort to judo for grappling.

While elements of ju jitsu are in kata so are other forms of grappling

  • Just so we both know where we are coming from.

Shotokan does train good stance work.

Using stances found in shotokan and indeed other strains of karate there are some interesting throws that use gravity.

Shotokan has become miss guided in some aspects.

Masatoshi Nakayama was more of a realist and there are some others that know their stuff.

  • Rising block would never work on a fast boxer/ puncher dude.

I dont think that is the purpose of the rising block.

They have to work out what is preserving and isnt preserving budo.

  • AWSOME!!!

  • excellent vid good explanation of technique, is this goju ryu gekisai di ichi.

  • oh 7majestic if you had to fight this man u would soon be woken up into reality

  • @delphlee Anderson Silva would kill him

  • dude, this is a training session, of course it's not reality. you could look at a training session of any martial art, including those of MMA practitioners, and you's also have to scream "unreality." so, tell us what you think is reality, besides an actual street fight!

  • people on the tube are soooo good in talkin shit...id like to see all those badass men fight for real

  • @Philmoscowitz May I? Reality in true karate is called yokusoku kumite. This level is the highest level and is intended to develop situational awareness and to incorporate defense and offense that can be used in street events. Guess who developed it? Okinawans, centuries ago and still applicable today. A comment said this was effective because the teacher is an Asai underling. Is that so? I say it can not be logically used because people do not behave that way in fights no matter who says so.

  • We're now see shotokan becoming more and more circular theses days and more use of the waist. I know we all heard about waist and hara, but many senseis were only using the hip and sometime onlyhe shoulders and not the waist, this guy here seems to have it all really.

  • I just wondering if some of these applications are comming from chen taiji, any comments?

  • I found this really good. I'm bias because ive trained my whole life with Frank Brennan, Andy Sherry, and Bob Poynton in Liverpool, but i found this really excellent. Thanks for posting.

  • Those brilliant japanese senseis

  • Maybe you would like to "dance" with Yamaguchi-sensei!!! I think not!!!

  • You don`t know what you are talking about!

Yamaguchi sensei has won more All-Japan championships than you can count.

You try to dance with him and come back.

Some commentators here here should do their homework before mouthing off.

  • Thanks for posting. The JKS are currently producing some of the best young Instructors in the world. It's great to be able to view new ideas towards training.

  • I agree, JKS instructors are pure quality.

  • I don't like this technique. If you move your elbow around the attacking arm you head is now open to a side hit with that same arm. Maybe a grand master can get away with it, but for most mortals it seems way to risky.

  • No it isn't because as he is attacking with the right ridge hand strike, his left hand will be coming up to prevent his opponent being able to move and do a backfist or any other jutsu...

  • good stuff very fluid

  • Does not look decisive??? I would love to see your decisive videos....

  • Very sharp.

  • Very good video. And I'm the first :).
