Google has toxic aspects to its management and culture. you need a processor, you need the data plan from your carrier and you also need the appropriate updates from google for your smartphone to work. Lets break down as if you were 4 years old. The udpates are necessary for software to work. the carriers function is just to send and receive data, the processor moves content from software to network and back. updates are created by google i.e. gingerbread, honey comb, and froyo

It is up to the carriers (and in some cases, the manufacturer) to provide updates to each model of Android phones [if they customise the OS, they have to provide updates for it]. In the case of the Nexus, it was Google branded (albeit produced by HTC) and, as such, Google provided the updates for said phone.

Whine to your carrier about your phone's update, not to Google.

Are you really that dense not to know that, and not see the monetary reason WHY google would create phone nexus, which is manufactured by samsung, and gingerbread in their first? HELLOOO!!!!!! Now for the manufacturer: from an article on Tested: "Phones running Sense UI have to receive updated software from HTC after the stock Android build has been altered to run Sense." So the phone's OS has been altered, necessitating an alternate updating scheme. Interesting how that works.
