i can watch it over and over again !! It is Clarence sax, interaction of Bruce and Clarence, and the small additions that make this a great song! Patti harmonizing and well everything!
One of my favorite all time Springsteen songs - and it's been too long to know if this was the first actual concert of his that I saw, but it was definitely from this set in Mountain View. Great memories - especially "just another roll of the dice"...very vivid...such a genuine sentiment in this song...Thanks for posting it and if there is more footage that comes available from these, please surface them.
Jerome3004, This is a hidden gem, but saying Fade Away was his worst single. WOW.,.......... Fade Away is a great song!!!! Sadly any 'B' side Bruce is an 'A' side for most............
First time I heard this was when I bought the CD single of Tougher Than The Rest. Along with these two songs were Roulette and an acoustic version of Born to Run. Probably the best use of a 20 minute CD there has ever been.
almost 30 years since this song came out, and still cannot believe it was the B side of Fade Away, Bruce's worst single. This song was the hidden gem of The River Sessions, and so glad Bruce rediscovered it after Patty joined the band:)
If bruce made the River a 1 disk CD (I know this predates CDs) instead of a 2 disk CD and got rid of a lot of the filler songs, I honestly think the RIver could be a top album ever. So many great songs got buried on it. Like Drive all night is probably my favorite Bruce song I never hear. Such a great song but you never hear it.
It was part of the concept album/tour. The cover had him wearing his cowboy tuxedo, yet the songs are all about breakup, pain, failed relatiohships, forgiveness.
Tux = a little sarcastic presentation of what marriage is supposed to be. Notice his wedding ring. This was around the time he was invovled with Patti. Nothing funny about it, when looked at in that context.
This song was recorded earlier under the title.."MaryLou " ..thats my name and I will always say he wrote it for me..tee hee...bring back MaryLou Bruce. And here is my 2 cents about Bruce and Patti..they were born for each other and they made a beautiful family together and they make beautiful music together...See you bruce and Patti May 18th in DC !!!! P.S sing Marylou? lol
WOW didnt know BRUCE was the ONLY person to EVER find his TRUE love while he was married.I guess he should have stayed miserable and married to the loser actress who married him ONLY to better her career.
It's probably heretical to say this, but I always thought the performance of this song, coming when it did, when he was in the midst of an affair, was a particularly nasty affront to Julianne Phillips. Just one fan's opinion.
Yeah I know how it is too be in a band with a girl that is after you. It could be anyone in any band situation. It happens when people spend a lot of time together. Kind of like office romance.
Julianne Phillips was a gold digger, what has she done since she met Bruce. He and Patti have been strong since they got together with kids to prove it. Shit happens, I believe that you need to be happy in life. You can tell that Bruce and Patti are happy together. Move on. Great song, don't try to read into it.
This song was released as a B-side to the "Fade away"-single wich was released in 1981. Why can't he just play it? There doesn't have to be an inner meaning with playing it, like he's still playing "trapped" does that mean he doesn't love Patti Scialfa anymore?
INCREDIBLE!!!! I was at this show! and the next night too...I have a video of this show on tape, but the quality is Shit! Where the hell...I gotta have this show!

True, that situation breeds those these things. But why did he have to marry her ???
