  • She's pretty.

  • Hillbilly music just don't get no better than this!

Seems to me like there some be a subcategory of country for musicians who still play what is considered real country music. Today's stuff is OK for teens and 20 somethings. They were never exposed to the classic stuff from more than 30 years ago. The classic stuff is what many people consider authentic country music. The record companies should re-open the doors to classic-style country.

  • Play that Dobro bro!

  • 2012 love it this is real music fuck rap im 18 this is my shit!!!!

  • Are there any real hillbillies singing country music today? I mean listen to her. You can tell she is country as hell!

  • yeehaaa ride em cowboy,

  • the reaction of the men at the end is priceless ... and for a good reason !

  • A great example of a sexy woman! Very classy, natural beauty... Not to mention an amazing talent, Great song!

  • I remember seeing this when I was a kid but forget what variety show it was on; Hee Haw, Midwestern Hayride, Lawrence Welk, etc. May have been Hee Haww.

  • @Oldtimerocker99 It is my belief this particular video is from the Wilburn Brothers TV show. They had that front porch thing on their show.

  • @ytoobdood Check out the Wilburn Brothers "Talk Back Trembling Lips" video and I believe you see that same front porch.

  • This friggin good stuff!!!

  • Barbara Eden plays the Harper Valley PTA socking mom in the 1978 movie version. Nanette Fabray is also in it.

  • ONE OF THE ''SEXIEST'' VOICES IVE EVER HEARD!!!!

  • Now THIS is authentic Country Music.

  • taylor swift can kiss my ass

  • went to no 1 in '68, not '69

  • Anyone who disliked this video just doesn't get it

Any time a situation arises I use this specific terminology to describe it... and of course anyone who knows will immediately say... exactly, Harper Valley P.T.A.

  • And Just Keep On With The Disgusting Talking Behind a Person's Back, And See Where It Gets Ya.

  • I LOVED this song as a child! I learned all the words in the eighth grade and still know them today @$# years later!

  • Give it up for Tom T. Hall for introducing the Dobro and Jerry Kennedy for playing it so well man that Dobro sound changed country music forever with this song

  • She looks like "Jody Foster" Hhahahahaa

  • Its a shame that country music doesnt exist anymore.Real country music that is.

    Love this song.

  • @Bag0fRats Nobody finds you even remotely funny. You sick, twisted piece of shit.

  • @JJayFin quit feeding the trolls, dummy.

  • @Bag0fRats Jeannie C Riley is happily married to Charles Barkley.

  • Geez I wish I could have hooked up with Jeannie Riley back in the day

  • karen this is to you

  • @kkiilljjooy In my world, "slide guitar" means a totally different technique and instrument. In point of fact, you cannot execute this style on any standard guitar, at least not properly. Lap steel, pedal steel, sure. The other technique you refer to can be used on this instrument, but requires resetting the action much lower than what is normally used on a resonator.

  • @tootall11211 The primary difference is that the notes aren't "fretted" they frets actually do nothing but guide the player. Most regular guitars sound like crap if played in such a way. There are actually two kinds of resonators, the "square neck" made to be played as shown, or the "round neck" which can be played like a normal guitar, if the action is lowered.

  • The day my mama socked it to the Harper Valley PTA. Oh...this mama knew all the town's business and she sure came and told it. I'll bet they withdrew that letter and said nary another word to her about how she was raising up her daughter....LOL

  • Heard the song hundreds of times. Never bothered to listen to the lyrics until today.....hilarious!

  • Reminds me of walking into my kid's high school in choker, black overcoat, waist chain, and rings. They didnt mess with saying anything, would'nt do them any good.

  • I like this song when my sister soxs it to the pta.

  • I went to a party... And she was there, and was kind enough to sing this for all of us.. Such a Nice lady!!

  • She wasn't playing the part very well..Good song though!

  • Wooo!!! Yeh

Love it!! always have since I was 5 now I'm 47

  • this sucks

  • I like her singing more than Lady Gaga. Don't you?

  • @givethanks777 ...true dat...true dat...

  • @givethanks777....Yep. I sure do!

  • 1 of My favorite county song ................

  • This is one of my favortite old timey country songs I remember from my youth because my parents played it over and over when I was running around the house playing with Lincoln Logs and Matchbox Cars. It is right there with Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire and and Elvis's Hound Dog.

  • This was Jeannie's best album!

  • Country music must be the white mans calling. I have never seen a white man get down on an instrument like that !

  • I get a kick out this song as it truely was based on actual events..... awesome!!

  • Another slice of good classic country.

  • DAM I REMEMBER DREAMING OF JEANNIE

  • great!

  • What exactly is a PTA?

  • @leafyutube parent teacher accoastion

  • @leafyutube It's an acronym for Parent Teacher Association. This is a national organization that lobbies in Washington, DC but there are local groups, also. Basically, a group of parents who volunteer within a school and raise funds for needed items.

  • My love of americana comes from this style of music.

  • what a stunner..

  • My Lord, this is my Life as a 7th grader! We moved to East Texas after my Daddy slammed Momma's head into the Bar for the last time. A High school graduate with very few skills, Momma, an attractive 31 year old 'divorcee' went to work at Timmy's Bar and Grille, working 50 hours a week amidst constant tweeks on the 'cheek,' and sexiual innuedo from the local boys to put food in mine and my sister's mouth. Called a 'whore' by the locals, all the 'Churched' kids were advised not to talk to us.

  • @jeff62rey where in east tx?

  • Pretty girl.

  • I wish people knew more about her. I heard this song about two years ago for the first time. I liked it so much I put a lot of her stuff on my Ipod. As great as this song is she has a great catalog. My favorite is Back Side of Dallas. She was gorgeous wasn't she?

  • junior high girls.....:D

  • sexyyyyyy, one of those songs you shouldn't really care about but you freakin love

Would be cool if our MUSIC channels like gac and cmt actually had music and performances like this on them. But who cares, country music died in 1995.

  • Fantastic hit by Jeannie C Riley written by Tom T Hall. As Leftysfive93 says "Damn she was hot, wasn't she" - she was. Hotter enough to top the charts for 6 weeks holding Johnny Cash & Waylon Jennings great 'Aint No Good Chain Gang' at No 2 for the whole 6 weeks. The late 60's when country was countty . . .

  • @Cash900EX According to Tom T. Hall, this ballad was based upon a true story.

  • i think MILF covers it nicely.

  • Now this is Great Music Folks!!!!!!

  • This song is more relevant today than it was back then.

  • One of the things most cool about this clip is the performance is not lip-synced, (as was typical back when) or at least after watching several times I can't detect any idiosyncrasies in the her motions and the music; it is also a slightly different version than the single. Glad someone preserved this, hope it continues to be accessible before the greed Nazis shut the Internet down.

  • I Love it,and you have the prettiest eyes I have ever seen!! I have been listening to your music for 30 years!!!

  • This song should have got the award for the stupidest song and the worst singer ever. And it cracks me up, so it has commedy appeal too.

  • YOU WERE ONE OF THE BEST, I THANK YOU !

  • PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO THEN LOOK UP STUFF ON YOU-TUBE AND MAKE FUN OF OR SAY MEAN THINGS ARE COMPLETE WORTHLESS IDIOTS ! MY GOD PUT YOUR TIME AND THOUGHTS INTO DOING AND SAYING POSITIVE THINGS, YOU'LL BE MUCH HAPPIER, I FEEL SORRY FOR PEOPLE THAT ARE NEGATIVE....EVERYONE HAVE A GREAT DAY...:-D

  • She was cute and hot!

23 people are Harper Valley hypocrites.

  • From what ive heard the woman in the song is just fine and the PTA can go to hell. LMAO Good tune

  • @BaronEmpain I've lived all over the country, north, south, west, small town and large city. Being a hypocrite has NOTHING to do with where you live!

  • dam right shes hot

  • And then you have the nerve to tell me, you think that as a mother I'm not fit...Well this is just because you stuck it in the place...

  • That slide guitar is called a DOBRO if you're from the South.

  • Top stuff from a loooooonng time ago. Yeah baby. From the old Aussie.

  • Occupy is comming to your hometown

  • I dedicate this song to all the hypocrites who have downed me

  • If I was 90 years old I would ask her for a date. Shes friggin HOT

  • @5by5charliedelta9er Ya rite!..R U aware that Viagra and SeeAlice don't work for dudes over 78y/o?

  • I love the song. If you think it is one of the best I want you to listen to more music! Even if you understand some, music. There is SO MUCH MUSIC TO LISTEN TO. That you will not like most... But if you like even 1 song you never would have... THAT MIGHT CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!!

Thanks for sharing this is great

  • it's one of the best songs ever. deal with it

  • One of the best "stick it to you" songs that I have ever heard. I love it every

time I hear it. One has to always look in one's own closet before shooting

    barbs at others! LOL

  • Thumbs up for that guitar playing.

  • SHE SHOULD TELL THEM ASSHOLES TO BITE ME

  • @19540071 RIGHT ON !!! I DON'T UNDERSTAND IF THEY DON'T LIKE HER WHY ARE THEY LOOKING HER UP ON UTUBE.......DUMBASSES !

  • it doesnt show, but i bet shes got nice buns,

  • Damn she was hot, wasn't she?!

  • @Leftysfive93 - Somewhat attractive, made all the hotter by her unapologetic Southern twang!

  • @Leftysfive93 LOL..yeah she was.

  • @Leftysfive93 Although Jeannie C. Riley was married (to husband Micky, whom since she has divorced, a recent YouTube clip showed her announcing that she was going to be remarried) and had a daughter when Harper Valley PTA hit the charts, women and girls wanted to be her and men and boys wanted to date her. I think Jeannie C. Riley was country music's first sex symbol.

  • @Leftysfive93 yes she was. a real natural beauty. I guess her look and this song.... were pretty racy in 1968. (-;

  • @Leftysfive93 hell too the yeah she was!!

  • still better than Lady GA GA! I think the last line shoud be, "and then you have the nerve to tell me as a mother I'm not fit, well this is just another Payton Place

and you're a Harper Valley piece of Shit!" HA HA! that would fit better!

  • why cant i get my wife to dress like that?

  • Love contry

  • Mrs Johnson sure sounds like the scandal clearing-house for Harper Valley. Too well-informed; too idle perhaps?

  • howdy

  • The sounds of my childhood (and I'm 19). :)

  • take that!

  • thank you

  • Great classic. Look how beautiful she is too. She has her own website so doing well still. An Alabama girl in every sense, beautiful, talented, and nice!

  • Dedicated to hypocrites, home-owner associations and small-town Fascists everywhere....that one and "Lord Knows I'm Drinking" by Cal Smith are perfect bookends :-)

  • @BaronEmpain The song is absolutely a classic, but I'll thank you NOT to forget the large-town Fascists. They're worse.

  • @obiwan2112

Having lived in DC for decades, I can assure you I know that variety well :-)

  • takes one to know one, Hell I thought it was just straight politics in George wallaces Alabama

  • is this johns mom?

  • let's go Jeannie!

  • reminds me of our Home Owners Association

  • You gotta love this song and the way Jeannie puts it across!

    Sounds like reality TV...lol

  • Jeannie didnt want to record this song, she didnt like it. When they finally talked her into recording it she was still upset about it. Her aggression was apparent during the recording which was perfect for the song. I cant remember who else they were going to get to sing the song if Jeannie didnt do it but I for one and sure glad they talked her into it.

  • How is Jeannie doing today?I hope shes doing Fine,,,is she stil singing?

  • I love this song and the movie is even funnier.

  • Happy Birthday Jeannie C Riley

  • It's been a while since I heard this song. My 15 yr old daughter asked if I had ever heard it before she thought it was so funny. brings back memories from when I was almost her age.

  • "Drinking and running 'round with men and going wild". Sounds good to me. x

  • Sounds like my mom in the 70s.

  • YES WHEN WOMEN WERE WOMEN AND PROUD OF IT

  • Al you old fogeys must really love this song. I only checked it out because this chick is (was) hot. What is this from the 40s or 50s? She's probably 80 or 90 now and all wrinkley and shit (:

  • @5by5charliedelta9er Your AN IDIOT!.

    Jeannie Riley is STILL Beautiful!.

And Remember this you irreverant PUNK Your stinking ass WILL get old one day.

I ran into a Punk like you a few yrs ago and put a FIST in his smart asses Mouth!.

Keep on smarting off someone will dot your EYE.

  • @packingten Now, now now. Is that any way to present yourself on this website? Just goes to show when you get really old you become angry and resentful. Did you take your Geritol today?

  • @5by5charliedelta9er Better to be 80 or 90 than 6ft under, doncha think? Hmmm? Providing one still has one's health, and all of one's marbles. Remember these wise words: "We're born, We bloom, We fade, and then it's . . . Goodnight Vienna. x

  • @5by5charliedelta9er One day you will be old if you are blessed to live that long. Or do you want to die before you get wrinkles? I happen to know Jeannie, and she is older, but still beautiful and has aged really well with limited wrinkles. I wonder if you will age as well as her. Not many people do. She still sings really good ,too.

  • @MsBiblebeliever Ms. Biblethumper. So gracious of you to respond to my comments. When can we meet to go on a date? Or do you not date younger men? I myself prefer the conservative uptight sort that drive around in their 8 year old Buicks listening to Jimmy Swaggart preach and sing about a flowing river that comes from up above. Are you into haute couture or haute cuisine. I myself prefer hot dogs cooked on a stick over an open flame and a bit of Honeysuckle Wine to wash it down with.

  • @5by5charliedelta9er Hell, you sound like a prize, pick me, I'll go out with you!

  • great song...the world is way too politically correct now to do songs like this today...everything has to be sunshine and lollipops

  • @youtuuberoxx Finally! Someone has the backbone to write that! Thank you!

  • love that hair

  • It's always satifying to kick the butt of jealous busy bodies!!! Ha!!

  • Whata Babe. That is when if a women was hot it was all natural. No fake anything!

  • tom t hall, who wrote harper valley pta , can flat write the hell out of a song.

  • Heard the song many times - not seen the clip - top lyrics of a bygone day - or is it that far from the truth still?

  • wow, that voice is like a strong west wind!!

  • i think martina mcbride would be a good choice to play her in movie

  • she has that nancy sinatra look, that coat the guitarist is wearing is standing out itself.

  • You use to have to actually have to be able to sing to be a artist.

  • I honestly just found out today that she is my fourth cousin! how cool!!

  • woot! there should be more of this.. love this song! .. Bring back great memories of my mom's fiestiness. Tysvm for posting it!

  • This is why I wanted to learn the dobro....

That and Lester Flatt and Mac Wisman..

But this is the first tune I ever heard.

    Lowell L Morse

  • The creeps who went to PTA meetings at our school (this was back in the sixties) were a pack of hypocritical Republicans who looked down their noses at us because we got commodities from the government. This program was a precursor to food stamps and really helped us to maintain a proper diet. I loved this song when it came out.

  • Wow, that's a lotta hair...

  • She was a baby doll !!!!

  • Whatta babe!

  • @MisterNail - yeah, my dad used to have the hots for this woman...made my mom a little jealous. She was a hot chick in her day.

  • @fredthejunkman If they ever do a movie on the live of Jeannie C. Riley, I would pick Emma Stone. As a brunette, Emma is the spitting image of Jeannie C. Riley, and she can sing also (Emma sang on VH1's ill-fated Partridge Family where she got the part of Laurie Partridge [she was known then as Emily Stone] and in the movie "Easy A"). Emma would do Jeannie C.'s mini-skirts, boots, hair, and no-nosense singing style justice and play it to the hilt.
