I feel that in their side projects Maynard and SW only reflect there weak side as composers, and then again I get to see it's the band that rocks, not just the singer.I mean who plays drums like Danny Carey and Gavin Harrison? and when I look at their main bands creativity, honest I don't see any true or original form of art in their side projects

@veryintricated .....it's not always about the technicallity that makes the drumming great, it's also about playing for the song. This drummer is not playing as technical as Danny Carey or Gavin Harrison but he's playing what the song calls for, which is how the drums are supposed to be played. I love both Carey and Harrison but appreciate this guy just as much for what he does and what he DOESNT do in the song. Can you imagine if Ringo was replaced by Keith Moon - would not be the same

Steven Wilson and Maynard James Keenan are the greatest artist I have seen, heard and loved more then anything this last decade, to me PT is the best prog band ever, but these two artist, when combined with something other then PT and tool are plain crap!!!

Steve writes most of the songs for Blackfield. Aviv has only written one song completely and that was "Miss U" from Blackfield II. His brilliant songwriting still shines through with this band. If you don't like them now, you should give Blackfield (eponymous album) another spin. It's a beautiful piece of music.

I was mistaken, I apologize. Aviv has written several Blackfield songs. According to the jacket on Blackfield, the songs written exclusively by Aviv are "Pain," "The Hole In Me" and "Where Is My Love?" "Blackfield" and "Lullaby" were written exclusively by Steve, and the rest are collaborations. Not sure about Blackfield II because I don't own that CD, and it's hard to find reliable liner notes online.

I would also recommend Boards of Canada "Campfire Headphase" album if you are into electronic music, it isn't like shitty repetitive trance, its original, good for sunny days with some green :)

@JohnyVirgil I think it's not just the octave apart that's gripping, but the fact that Steven's singing an octave higher than in the first verse (with Aviv taking the lower part). Singing the higher part puts an additional strain on his voice; coupled with the emotion in his rendition, it makes the song and its performance that much more powerful.
