The piece about what each instrument is meant to be doing was really useful thanks. It made me realise how the Banjo gets that sound when its picking four notes per beat!
From thin strings to thick it is E A D G. Each set of two strings are tuned to the same note ie the first two thin strings are tuned to E then the next two to A and so on.
