Why would GM make an alternator that had ineffective diodes? There seems to be a generous cooling fin arrangement under the diodes. I read that the CS130 D will go 80 000 - 100 000 mi. before a rebuild. With its' twin fans, overheating is not an issue. Like the GM HEI ignition module, it runs a tad warm but is far superior to the Duraspark module. And I suppose it would not run well under water also.
I want to upgrade my alternator in my 1999 chevy malibu 4cyl. is there any other alternator that would fit direct bolt with no mods. other than the one thats made for it. i want to get a alternator from another vehicle and put it in my malibu without doin no mods.can you help??
Im trying to upgrade my alternator in my 98 trans am that uses a 105 amp CS130D. I want to get a AD244 since it is 145amp and it is a direct fit. My question will be if this AD244 alternator has the same plug and bracket for all the vehicle that it fits in.
I work at a Starter/Alternator shop and get to go back to work tomorrow and put coms on CS rotors. :-\ I like the rectifier design on the ADs more since they're a lot less likely to blow a diode like the CSs.

Would earlier models from 89-93 commonly found in a ford/Mercury topaz/tempo be any different internally?

@MrSalsaspeed
Yes, the AD is a direct match to the mounting and plug for your 98 Trans am
The AD244 comes in only one mounting style with two 2" mounting bosses.

This is is part of a complete rebuild. The next step would be to show taking the alternator apart and replacing bearings.
