rey mysterio is often called the greatest high flyer in wwe history, and from what he's achieved in wwe i will agree with that. but looking back, it seems he always got his ass beat by guys like ultimo dragon and psichosis.
@sygnote Sorry. Rey around this time was unparalleled. Sin Cara is grea but cannot compare. Ive seen him do things in these matches around that are seemingly impossible. Look at 3:56. Have you ever seen anything like that?
@jghor23 OFCOURSE I do see much more better an unbeliveble thing from sin cara much more impossible look for MISTICO VS VOLADOR JR, that match will blow your mind
@sygnote Have to disagree. Ill agree that Sin Cara is the best today but Mysterio revolutionized the business. Look up top moves of El Mistico. They are all traditional luche libre moves with the exception of Le Mistica.
@jghor23 misteryo maybe revolutionized WWE business but he also do traditional moves but sin cara do the traditional moves but better and faster and my point is that if you bring old school rey and sin cara now sin cara is better
@Gtfly08 The "Jr" stands for Junior, as his Uncle was also a professional wrestler at this time. His Uncle shared the same name, although spelled slightly differently "Rey Misterio."
To avoid confusion Rey Mysterio was called "Rey Mysterio Jr" in WCW.
@liverpoolad6 The Jr on Rey-Rey's name was from Mexico, where he started. He was Rey Misterio Jr. there and ECW too. I think spelling changed to Mysterio after he started working full-time in the U.S.
@crazyhayn na he has his dads name rey misterio sr like many other luchadores same mask and attire. but wwe doesnt recognize wrestlers outside their soap opera company so they changed it to mysterio.
@MrRhyme24 Rey Misterio Sr is Rey Jr's uncle. Rey Jr has said it before. The announcers in WCW and WWE have said it before. Rey Jr is from San Diego but trained under his Uncle in Mexico. Rey Rey wrestled under a couple of other names before he was given permission to become Rey Misterio Jr. His uncle has since retired from full-time wrestling, so there was no big problem with Rey-Rey dropping the Jr in WWE.
@liverpoolad6 so where is ultimo now? this match happened when i was a child, i just play ps2 and saw that ultimo is so skillful, love both (their skills and thier styles)
@HBK883 I believe he runs a gym in Mexico while also working for some Independent wrestling companies in Japan and probably many other countries. He has his own website wwwDOTultimodragon DOTcom (replace with actual dots) although it doesn't seem it gets updated much. Hope that helps :)
Nowadays it's odd to see a match pass the five or ten minute mark. It's a shame because these amazing matches will never be surpassed (everyone needs to be a cookie-cutter Greek Mythological being regardless of talent and capability). I remember every day after school dying to see Wrestling from the video store instead of my dad's wrestling every Monday night Murder She Wrote wrestling.
Not to sound like a Nippon-freak, but pro-wrestling in the US is too fast paced for subtleties. The ending could have been better but every was pressed for time. It's the ironic trial of time. The past was too much for too little and now it's to little is never enough.
This is one of those matches that I remember from when I was rooting around the mom and pop video stores. The atmosphere in certain 90's pro wrestling events is just the most amazing thing.
@itachiuchiha286589 the real name for the 619 is a Tiger feint kick which was used as a fake dive to scare the opponent and make the crowd think he was going to jump through the ropes but when Mysterio came along he used it as a finisher.
To bad you don't get to see to many matches like this nowadays. Unless to have tickets to ROH or something like that. A few years back TNA use to give us a few of these, but Hulk Hogan came and screwed that all up.
Rey Mysterio is a pretty good wrestler but in this match he had to face someone more experienced and its normal but there both my favorite wrestlers so i have nothing against any of them
Rey was called Jr there was a rey Sr but it was not is father it was his uncle i do believe who was Tag team with Konnan when Konnan still wore a mask if u look at old wcw tag team international tournament it had them
@kambizolo That makes no sense. Ultimo Dragon is a living legend. One of the best wrestlers of all in time in the entire world. How do you figure he is a "noob"?
Recuerdo que compre una mascara del Ultimo Dragon, fue la unica que compre porque era el que mas me gustaba. Eso fue hace mucho tiempo cuando empezo luchando en Mexico.
This kinda wrestling is way better, instead of a piledriver and powerbomb being a finisher, there just normal moves. Finishers are overated, they make it too predictable
Vince should have just bought WCW, fired Russo, laid down the law with the pay. And kept WCW around as WWE's rival company. With WCW bookers/creative team running WCW but with WWE controlling the pay and who gets hired/released. And just had WCW as the normal competition like it was before. I think it just would have been better for people and Vince wouldnt have suffered from this because he wud be bringin in the money that WCW made
Mysterio contra un verdadero luchador a nivel mundial como el Último Dragón, que felpa le pusieron, bueno ya es costumbre ver que le meten una buena tunda en cada presentación.
Ultimo dragon and mysterio jr along with bikky kidman were most probably the best high flyers of all time, wwe in no comparison to what WCW used to be, thoes years are the best years of wrestling full stop.
Ultimo dragon and mysterio jr along with bikky kidman were most probably the best high flyers of all time, wwe in no comparison to what WCW used to be, thoes years are the best years of wrestling full stop.
I think the idea is that, with cruiserweights, the piledriver is less effective. The move drops an opponent's body weight on his neck. Less weight, less damage.
One Thing WCW had was a GREAT!!! Cruiserweight division jericho, juventud guerra, kidman, misterio, dragon, psychois, eddie, malenko it was amazing dat the one thing i miss
WE know WE know! The was back in the day before Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero went to WWE and got on that juice!!! They felt they had to weight 200lbs to compete but forgot they were only 5'4!!! Now Rey just looks chunky!!
That was the best looking tombstone I've ever seen, they both pulled that match off really well as far as tthe spots, Rey just needed to sell being hurt more but I loved this match otherwise. Too bad ultimo messed up his elbow later on in his career, he's never been quite the same since.
Wow... That was for all intents and purposes a 15 minute squash on pay per view. Christ, that was hard to watch sometimes lol.
Dude was Ultimo Dragon like the monster heel cruiserweight in WCW back in the day? Because I swear to God, I don't remember anybody beating him clean except Dean Malenko .
I just remember him squashing everybody back when I was little... Him and fucking Yuji Nagata for however long he was there.
I recently ragged on a Rey fan on how Reys started doing the same old shit and how cruiserweights are dead. and in a way its true. This brand of cruiserweight action is dead. where it was "Were lighter then heavyweights, and well do their stuff to other guys our weight" but today its "Im small, but I can do it cause Im the underdog, now watch me do some planned out flying"
Everything was just perfect when Ultimo was in control, but, jesus, Mysterios neck should've been fucked up after all that but he didn't sell at all. What's the point of doing all those stiff and dangerous looking moves if Mysterio's just gonna hop right back up, unhurt when it's his turn?
REAL WRESTLING!!!! and REAL WRESTLERS if wwe people(because they cant be call wrestlers)train harder in their wrestling skills they can offer good WRESTLING MATCHs

@nathansdad12 He has probably suffered a lot of injuries and can't do quite as much as he used to. That high flying stuff is dangerous. Owen Hart had to change his style a bit later in his career too.
Damn! This was great. In the old WcW days everyone would be using a shitload of finishing moves and the match would keep going. These days 1 brainbuster or tombstone means you're out cold, blehhhh
@nerdiiee cuz it wasn't the '619' back in those days xD rey and dragon wrestled quite often, they've worked together a lot in the ring back in these days.
I knew it was going to be a great match when I saw Rey versus Ultimo but that was amazing! Anyone who enjoys wrestling should watch this match at least once. Those two had a phenomenal match.
@MrWwefan15 that's not entirely true. I've spent most my life living in Mexico and going to many events all over, and they're mostly clappers and don't yell and cheer as much as American fans. but I wouldn't expect you as an arrogant gringo to know that, though.

Why they call him Rey Mysterio Jr. and in WWE they drop the Jr.? Like as if there was a Sr.? :-??
xsnrgman 1 year ago
@xsnrgman Because there was a Sr. "Rey Misterio" was the uncle of "Rey Mysterio" and also a professional wrestler throughout the 70s and 80s.
So to avoid confusion Rey had "Jr" on his name.
This became irrelevant in WWE and I believe Rey was given permission by his Uncle to use his current name.
Hope that helps.

can somebody tell me why ultimo dragon is doing the 619?
nerdiiee 1 year ago
why is he doing the tombstone too? haha
stormchaser34869 1 year ago
@nerdiiee cuz it wasn't the '619' back in those days xD rey and dragon wrestled quite often, they've worked together a lot in the ring back in these days.

Ultimo dragon and rey would be the best tagteam :)

I knew it was going to be a great match when I saw Rey versus Ultimo but that was amazing! Anyone who enjoys wrestling should watch this match at least once. Those two had a phenomenal match.

MrWwefan15 = Smarky
This match was in the US. US fans usually cheer when they like something. Your dum comment would be true if they were in Mexico.

sorry i was in a bad mood when watching this, i'm kind of a smark i'll admit but that's no exscuse i'm sorry
MrWwefan15 2 years ago
when fans are quiet in lucha libre matches it's a sign of respect you wwe tna marks wouldn't know that though...
MrWwefan15 2 years ago
@MrWwefan15 that's not entirely true. I've spent most my life living in Mexico and going to many events all over, and they're mostly clappers and don't yell and cheer as much as American fans. but I wouldn't expect you as an arrogant gringo to know that, though.
