( part 2 ) if you like UNIX like operating system USE Linux on pc.I would say Ubuntu.Or even you can use MAC operating system on pc OSx86 Project InsanelyMac. So,again why use MAC ? and sepdn that much money ? Maybe it is becasue of its look ! why not using Voodoo Envy 133 laptops ? I would say IT WILL SMASH the look of any apple out there. So , again, I do not see any reason why we should spend that much money on mac.
hhhahahhahahhha !!! my pc is only 2,5 cm and has RAELY a lot of ports and 2 great processer's 2 x 1.50 ghz hmm thats 3 ghz!! 2 GB of ram! and waigt under 2 KG! and guess what it is running windows VISTA ultimate :) be smart by a PC!
sorry, everyone cant be smart and choose the right thing. apple is way over priced. and thats a FACT. vista is a beutiful OS. and ms will ALWAYS win they are that powerful! and one more thing i got 2 processors on 1.5 ghz a peace. thats a TOTAL of 3 ghz in effect. its only math.
Fact? Prove it then, i've disproved it MANY times, add software that comes with it, and in the case of a iMac a 24 inch display and all the IO and correct speakers and sound card equivilents, its the same if not cheaper to own a Mac, proven by research as well. MS made two things i like, Microsoft Surface (which i used today, owns) and Xbox Live, not the 360 itself, but live thats it. 1.5GHz of Core 2 Duo = 1.5 GHz Moron.
well if we go by your math the air is faster 1.6x2 or 1.8x2. Also the mac is a unix machine witch actually knows how to use both cores unlike winblows.
First off, 2 cores of 1.5 GHz is not 3 Ghz, for the simple reason that one core can only start with an operation once the needed data is in the cache. If this data must come from another operation on the other core, it means it has to wait.
Secondly, just slamming GHzes on the table doesnt mean anything. Core i7-s are alot faster than core 2-s at thesame clockrate, due to stuff like hyperthreading, which alleviates the first problem i mentioned.
Ya this sucks. He left out many of it's major flaws. It's overpriced and if you want a DVD drive or ethernet hub, you would have to pay 100.00 for each. Also Apple lied it is not the thinnest notebook or the lightest. The Sony VAIO X505 is AND it came out in 2003!!
they never said it was the lightest. and if you average out the smallest point with the largest thickness, you get a number that is smaller than the Sony's average.
no, it doesn't go by average but by how thick it is. not the overall average. Besides, I will admit that it is the thinnest and lightese ON THE MARKET today, The Sony Vaio has been discontinued.
well all i'm saying is by some basic mathematical calculation, Apple can claim that. and while the thickest part of the macbook air is thicker than the thickest part of the Sony, the thinnest part is WAY thinner than the thinnest part of the Sony. so by some means, they can claim that the macbook air really is the "thinnest notebook in the world."
The Sony is no longer made, so there is no way in HELL it's the thinnest. If we used your analogy the Timex Sinclair would be the THINNEST, we don't compare it since it's no longer MADE, learn how to use "english".
Don't be an IDIOT, the MacBook Air is the thinnest laptop, that's a pure fact.
I would make a comment... but I'm tired of arguing wiht you seriously loool, but the new voodoo you know, god plz don't argue with me anymore it is thinner lets not talk about any of the features
but you are locked into running Windows or Linux software, and nobody wants that, so the VooDoo is a failed prodcut from the start. But I'm sure a few uneducated people will mistakenly buy it. It just doesn't have high enough standards for me.
if you already have a MAC with MAC OSX you can get MAC OSX running on a PC legally, there are ways just look for on the net, and why would nobody want linux? I really like it to me it's more like MAC OSX than windows, Ubuntu is easy to use and for advanced users there are other distros. but why is the Voodoo a failed product, Voodoo has very high standards and if Voodoo will fail it will be the first because up until now it has had the best gaming rigs on the planet but pricey ofc I cant afford
Its not really legal. But who cares? The real point is that many features won't work on the PC running MAc OS X. Its great when they do work, but if the WiFi or ethernet or sound doesnt work whats the point of having a computer???
yes it's a beautiful machine, great specs but for 1----no battery, no way to get a hard drive....and i mean if you drop that laptop it would snap or shatter or just mess it all up i mean it's too small but good specs and all but i wouldn't buy it. i mean no cd/dvd drive either and only ONE usb?????? come on apple. You can do better than that!!!!
for laptops I will agree it will have no cables, I usualy only use my PDA through BT which doubles as a wireless modem (really cool with the free internet I get from Vodafone) and the Wi-drive is awesome for that kind of operation just keep it in your bad and access the drive wirelessly
A lot of older laptops, escecially dells, only had 1 USB port and they rarley complained about that! They were too greatful to actually have USB, instead of Serial and Parallel ports!
I'm pretty sure you can tap-to-select. You can set it up on the MacBook and MacBook pro. System Preferences> Keyboard & Mouse> Track Pad then select the "tap" checkbox.
amongst all other ultra portable laptops out there, macbook air is the better choice of buy. it's cheaper and look slick with aluminium finish, more powerful processor and ram. full size keyboard. Only downside of this is at least they should have added one more usb port. I did my research so do yours before u reply to my comment
I totally agree. However, how many times have you had to plug in more than one USB-device at a time when youre out and about? I mean, if you wanna charge your iPod and connect your camera at the same time, bring a hub :P Im not going against you, dont misunderstand, plox.
haha :P Well, the dude clicked with two fingers, meaning he RIGHT clicked (there is an option to right click when tapping with two fingers, seeing as mac laptops only have one button. Right clicking can also be done by holding ctrl and clicking.)
Bigger picture here is how we use technology in the future. When iMacs first came out in 1998, everyone said 'its' got no floppy'... but who used floppies then?.. and who uses them now. No DVD is a bind, but it's designed for people on the move - not meant to be your home computer replacement, instead it's used to compliment your set up. No DVD, only one USB, so what! Just buy a cheap external USB Hub or external drive - its about tenner in Sainsburys.
Or... people that would prefer a thinner laptop to carry around all day between meetings, cause all they use it for is sending emails and work on a couple of Powerpoint presentations, and are willing to pay for it - and maybe even prefer a well designed computer. Style and function are not opposites. And it's FAR from being a style obsessed twat.
I agree with Andrewrunagall. I see it this way. You gotta pay twice the price for half of the functionality of a Toshiba, just to look like a cool or rich guy. I would buy this only if it was 700, but then everyone would buy one and it would not be classy anymore. So fuck the cool look. I want some functionality. Anyone agrees?
its perfect for me for example, because i only use it for the university, and i have a second computer for all the other stuff... if you try to see it or buy it for your main computer you will certainly have lot of troubles, look at the macbook pro if you want somthing fast from apple
Nah, the MacBook Air has more features. The MacBook is A LOT heavier, has a larger powerbrick, doesn't have a "light up" keyboard, isn't as thin, weighs 2 pounds more, battery life sucks with the MacBook, doesn't have iPhone level controls, the resale value isn't as high and runs MUCH hotter than the "Air".
The MacBook is okay, but it's not nearly as advanced as the MacBook Air.
true. it is a BEAUTIFUL laptop, and although it lacks an optical drive, and a firewire port (which i hope they add on their next update), it really is worth the price. beautiful screen. nice backlit keyboard. thin as can be. webcam. fast processor for such a skinny ultraportable. I guess it would depend on who it was and what they did, to pick between the two. or the macbook pro too.
I'm a mac fanboy; I don't think it's something special at all. Macs are generally very well equipped (DVD drive/CD-RW as standard for a very very long time for example) particularly the MacBook Pro (née Powerbook) series which this, based on appearance and price, is obviously considered part of. The MacBook Air is pretty much the opposite of the machine any Mac fanboy would have; I think it's actually intended to appeal to iPod / iPhone fanboys.
These computers are for RICH people that already have another fully functional laptop and/or desktops and don't know what to do with their extra cash. 64GB??? 1 USB?? NO CDROM? How is this useful when you want to watch a dvd on an the airplane? Whomever buys this thing is just to show off...
There are far cheaper ways to watch a DVD on an aeroplane than on a laptop!
Anyway, yes, it's clearly intended to be a second (or third) computer since it would be impractical to run on its own. If you were rich and wanted to show off, you'd surely buy a bigger (screen), faster MacBook Pro; there's presumably some more specific subset of consumers who particularly value low thickness or low weight which this is intended to sell to.
If you want to watch a movie on the airplane you can just use your seat's built-in entertainment console. Or download it from iTunes. Or just read a book. There's no reason to panic. And yes, maybe, just maybe, it is aimed at people that can afford to have 2 computers. or to buy the wireless drive to use at home/office. It's not the $100 laptop.
This is definately a machine purely for those who want a basic machine that looks great. The wife/mistress comparison in the review is spot on. If you want a real powerhouse laptop then you go for the MacBook Pro it's simple.
it's not meant to "double as a home computer" if you were gonna do that you'd get something with more power and memory and probably with something that has a disc drive. this is DEFNITLY made to be a SECONDARY computer that one carries around alot. and only 1 usb...who cares. get a usb splitter for 5 bucks and plug it in.
Fine - it's like saying a city car isn't as fast as a dragster instead. I need a decent computer for my work, but if my job involved - for example - going from meeting room to meeting room doing some presentations and sending emails, I would much rather have this machine than say a MacBook Pro. Anyway, online everything is what the near future holds (from document data to software - and guess what, movie rentals!). Soon a DVD drive will be as absolete as a floppy drive.
Good to see somebody else gets it. When students are treated like pack mules these days, some people don't want the extra 10-15 pounds to carry. It is too pricey for the average student though. Forced me to go with the eee pc. No DVD drive isn't a problem, I don't think I've ever needed one while on the go.
Ditto. I rarely ever use the drive on my MacBook. I don't watch DVD movies, and if i did, i could just rip them to my harddrive. I only use the disc drive to install DVD/CD applications (so far only iWork and Leopard) and to burn disks. If one needs to burn DVDs or CDs while on the go, just buy the external superdrive... It doesnt need an AC-plug, so its dead easy. Besides, its about the size of 2 CD covers glued on top of each other...
There is no problem with the mouse. to open a file/folder/application, u single/double click with ONE FINGER and not two fingers. No wonder it ddnt work. And to right click, you click once with two fingers.
In this video, we'll teach you how to be a hipster douchebag, while throwing all your money away on overpriced shit.
