The "white" is atually derived from the word "wide" .. as in wide front lips .. the black rhino has a pointed front lip .. and the "white rhino" has a "wide" and flat front lip ..

she's rare in that white rhinos, like all species of rhinos are critically endangered. their numbers in the wild are down to only a few thousand. any time a zoo is able to breed an endangered animal in captivity, it's important to the survival of that species.
