  • You nailed that song, unbelievably great!

  • Just thought, I have a yew English longbow named "Zenbow". ; )

  • As a long-time Todd fan, ...THANK YOU for this exquisite rendition. and as always, I'm so glad you were born.

  • I haven't heard this song by TR before... but hearing this, gypsy classical music.. the term that came to mind.

That bit of discordance on C, during the early parts, struck me as 'wrong' (but I trust your ears more than mine.)

Good stuff. I like it a good deal better than the version from his album - which I checked out just now- doubt that would ever be one of my favorites from TR.

  • @marmas58ink

thanks. yeah there's some dissonance that i try to incorporate from the original. I have to say that song is one of my favorites on AWATS. I recommend listening to it several times, it will grow on you. :D

  • all right, dude, this has to be as hip and cool as it gets....wonderful playing of one of Todd's more challenging and idiosyncratic pieces...Congrats on your art...

  • I just have to say, this absolutely blew my mind. Excellent vid

  • This is wonderful! Thank you!

  • Excellent arrangement, this tune works so well stripped down like this, and so perfectly played. Fantastic stuff.

  • :O

  • Bodacious! You are a steely-eyed missile man.

  • wonderful !!!

  • This is so righteous! What a fantastic arrangement. Is that a standard tuning you're using? I'm going to give that one a shot, myself. Now, I'm going to go check out your version of Marlene.

  • Fantastic ..... cool +

  • I luve this so much!

  • @bernardcombarni

    well thank you

  • I have to say, you are mind-bogglingly good. thanks for sharing this with all of us.

  • excellent

  • Beautifully played. I WILL BE BACK ,OFTEN !!

  • When you hear a beautiful tune like this one from Todd played like this, it really brings home what an incredible composer Todd Rundgren is. Thanks for posting this wonderful performance.

  • My goodness tony ! I've been checking out all of your videos and I've got to say i am truly digging your playing. simply amazing ! Love your choice of tunes to cover...most eclectic tastes, and all impeccably done. bravo !

And what an odd todd tune to choose. LOVE IT ! thanks for sharing your talents with us !

that said, i am promptly throwing out all my guitars !!

  • @tglutton1

thanks. don't throw those guitars away yet though. !

  • great job, really ehjoyed it.

  • sweet

  • This is amazing. I love you so much right now.

  • Nice. Brings out the eastern European Gypsy in a Todd Rundgren song. Well done.

  • Very Cool!

  • Pretty bird!

  • Fantastic!

  • Sorry, but I think you're better then Igor

  • beautiful inspired version. Good work. Tnks!

  • sounds like a polka. where is the accordion player ? YYAAAWWNNNN

  • Incredible Job! Just......WOW!

  • Great job. I love all your playing. By chance do you play "The Range War" by Todd?

  • i've noodled around with a couple things on "Runt - the ballad" but not the 'range war'.

    thanks for watching

  • I am pretty much strictly an electric guitar person, but I have to say you make marvelous sounds out of an accoustic and a good rendition of one of my favorite AWATS songs.

  • Wow, a great rendition, really beautiful.

Reminds me a bit of Steve Hackett's work on early Genesis stuff.

  • That is a KEEPER :)

    beautiful rendition ...

    I love Rundgren ... 1 brilliant talent

  • Changing from min7 to Maj7 in a half step down interval is so beautiful. I wish I could play this well even though I come from a Death metal/Jazz background.

  • This is one of my absolute favorites you've done.....again, much appreciation for sharing so much - a real special treat at the end of long work days. :-)

  • Awesome !

  • VERY NICE!!

  • An underrated gem! Well done, sir. Well done.

  • Very beautiful.

  • That's splendid- I'm learning this NOW!!!!

  • hello, i think you played really well.

Who is the composer? and also what is the song's background? if i may.

    Thanks :)

  • not sure about the meaning or background of the song. It was written by Todd Rundgren. See video details. thanks

  • The thing on the guitar is a capo

  • Wow, this Todd Rundgren song takes on a whole new meaning on classical guitar. Sounds Italian! Lovely!

  • Hi,I love this music,I also play the acoustic guitar, but I wanna ask, what's the name of that thing on your guitar? I know what's for,but I don't know the name, would you help me?

    Thanks, Paloma

  • capo?

  • Oh thank you ^^

  • yup, "capo". Italian for "head", changes the head position of the guitar (at least I guess that's the reason it's called that)

  • "Capo" is actually a kind of nickname to "capotraste" or (sth like) "capofret" (uh?), the "capo" (chief) of all the other frets... It' used to change the base tone of the tuning without needing to re-tune all strings individually... ;-)

  • OLD BRO AND THE ANCESTORS says very great TODD would love to hear this rendition

  • well..except he's a stickler for good sound quality ;)

  • Troubleclef, you are inspiring, and your selection of material is always first-rate. Do you gig out? I would happily drive from New York to see you live.

  • i appreciate it. i don't play anywhere. just at home

  • Well then, it's a good thing that subscribed!

Please keep them coming - player's choice, of course!

  • This is just lovely.

  • Simply great. Thank you Sir! Did not know the original piece and Todd Rundgen at all - I missed something but still prefer your arrangement wich is absolutely beautiful.

  • thanks. you should check out the whole album

  • that sounds great. Do you have a CD ?

  • thanks. no not yet

  • Please come to Akron. And bring your acoustic guitar with you.

  • Thanks so much for this cover...one of my favorites. I wish I could play that like you can. If you ever want to strike up an all Todd Cover duo with me I can sing it all...and play a little rhythm guitar...you rock.

  • "from out of the shadows steps out the Zen Archer".

    Who is it?

    Dreamer closes his eyes.

  • Heartbreaker treatment troubleclef.

    Beautiful and poignant.

So odd to hear this played this way

  • I know what u mean about not feelin' that your flawless im a bass player with some guitar skills and other people who cant do what u do think the world of what u do sometimes but to yourself u know what mistakes u make, but u r so good that it appears to be flawless and u make it look ez, my favorite of yours is your cover of hot fun in the summertime, thank u for replying to my comment i feel honored that u did.

  • I like your play. Can we exchange? Pierre

  • U should be playin' n large concert halls makin millions of dollars, u r a flawless virtuoso, song after song everything and every note u play.

  • i'm so not flawless. but thank you all the same

  • nicely done man this is a great song

  • Todd, you're my new guitar hero. Love your arrangement of this.

Do you have a CD of your stuff? It's easy to get this stuff on iTunes and link it up to these videos. You've had 4000 views of this in less than two months you would have sold likely between 40 and 100 copies of your performance.

There is a website (I don't have it off hand) where you can get a license for works that aren't public domain for about $35 which allows you to distribute up say 20 thousand copies per license.

  • Todd is the writer of the tune :) not the player.

  • I think Mike meant to write "Tony" and it came out "Todd"

  • Yes I meant Tony. Thanks.

  • Yes, I'm sorry about that .

  • u should become a professional
