@NikosiaMateas I'd never heard Arch before this album either, and I hated his voice at first. Give this album a few more listens and you'll discover a lot of complex shit going on in this album though. His voice definitely grows on you. I'm a heavy metal head, I'm all about lamb of god and chimaira etc.. but this album really hit the spot. I'd say this is my fav album of the year.
die hard Fates Warning fan here. still got all my old lp's from the days and bought all the cd's as they hit shelves. seen live shows with both singers, bought this cd and was amazed at the band line up....it's Fates Warning for sure.it lacks all that good melodic guitar for Arch to soar over, instead it sounds like he struggled with alot of thumping bar chords and reverted to the old songs in his mind? glad to see they are making music again but these songs don't stick in your mind like the old
This is so much better than anything from Fates Warning since Johns' departure,I didn't ever like Ray Alders' singing and I'm happy to say it.Having all these elite musicians in the band is truly a superband for sure,Bobby has been ripping it up for years with Riot,Spastic Ink etc.etc.This is album of the year Eddie Trunk!
Best album in 2011 and yet a classic piece of Progressive Metal.
John's vocal performance is above all and I really don't give a s*"t about someone's complaining about the modern production. This record is perfect and since VAUXDVIHL's "To Dimension Logic" no other records had more impact on me! Love it, worship it and so looking forward to the gig at KEEP IT TRUE festival this april! this is gonna be very emotional!
I'm not too familiar with Fates Warning (I heard one or two songs a long time ago). I remember that the singing was really good, as was one of the songs as a whole. He sounds just as good here as he used to. Music is friggin' awesome too. Great song!
Man, Johns voice sounds better than ever!!! He is one of the greatest singers if not THE GREATEST and one of the most influential singers to ever grace this earth. NOBODY IS LIKE JOHN ARCH, NOBODY!!
Its been a long time since Johns voice soothed my ears..Now there it is again..Well done...we always wanted for more...!!!cause we will always like John singing...!!!!
Arch's voice is undoubtedly peculiar, so I don't find strange that a lot of people dislike it. I don't think his timbre is particularly amazing, but the simple fact it's unusual, together with an awesome control, vibrato, interpretation and songwriting skills counterbalances that flaw for me. I'm at my first listen of this new Arch's track and I'm pleasantly (un)surprised to notice he still rocks.
Someone actually said that John Arch's voice sucks hard??? OMG! I needed a frigging towel after I heard his voice again for the first time after all these years!!!!
I find it fascinating that people who probably like System of a Down and Dream Theater are bashing Arch's voice. It's like Judas Priest fans complaining about Mustaine's voice, even though Mustaine is clearly imitating "Delivering the Goods" on every song.
This is as solid a marriage of old school approach and modern production techniques as you will find.
@MartinAlvito1 I listened to dream theater for almost 20 years ..This guy is easily the best prog singer today. Labrie plain and simply sucks compared to this guy.
This is such an amazing album. Of course Arch is amazing, but I want to give some credit to Frank Aresti. I've rarely heard him rip it up as much as he does here, and I've always loved his guitar playing.
This one show's Jim Arches world renowned "Fates Warning" guitar trademark and as well John's blessed vocal abilities....going to get one next week, which will be in my car's CD player untill the band retires of old age to the Bahamas to enjoy their spoils...
Damn this songs was made for me!

I have been looking for metal albums that did not suck in 2011. This is not what I expected to find, but I am glad I did find this. Wonderful work.

The vocals sound a little like Bruce Dickinson (early days) of Iron Maiden. Probably just me though. However, this is an awesome album. Cheers.
