President Obama's commission examining the spill has no industry or local expertise, but is instead loaded with environmentalists loons searching for a justification to institute cap and trade energy taxes. Ineptitude. Incompetence. Inattention is consistent across the Gulf, but perhaps the best description came from a Louisiana official who said that the federal response was “stuck on stupid.”
This isn't the first time this has happened. Around the same time last year, there was a major political movement taking place in Iran after an election gone bad. Basij enforcers were helping government troops beat down protesters as western journalists braved the Iranian media blackout to show the world what was going on. People in the west pledged spiritual support to Iran's dissenting public. Then Michael Jackson died, and the news media became obsessed with showing 24 hr tributes to MJ.
He is absoultly right not only that but it was Bush 43 that went after everything like a bull in a china shop now I ask all serious people do they want that, not only that but this is a text book case of how the republicans can goad the democrats on an issue, first they want some action, but when something has to be done it's no no don't touch our big oil it is not their fault they should still go around blindly till this happens again.. and again ..and again.
Really? Everyone just needs to stop being partisan minded? Fat chance. Human nature dictates that very little of the population will actually pay attention to and embrace the tough moral questions. To actually get elected to a Gov't position a person must claw and scrape their way past all the real issues and make it a popularity contest. Just look at how Patches won in Rhode Island versus a much more qualified and perfect candidate just because he's a Kennedy.
Finally! Someone with the balls to stand up and show, if only for a moment, just how ugly the face of this country's political system is. And Fareed is absolutely right: it doesn't matter whether we're doing something or not, it matters whether we look like we're doing something. Seeing this kinda makes me want to run for office myself, with a whole lot less sensationalism, and a whole lot more honesty and common sense.
Wave The Jones Act. On the third day the Netherlands offered help and they were turned away. Why is it that in the UAE when they had an oil spill they accepted help and cleaned it up? Why is it that the company, who gave the obama campaign mucho denero, was forced to drill so far out? And why is obama giving Petrobus, george soros' company, billions to drill an even deeper hole in Brazil?
@frealms Unfortunately, probably the latter. I don't know who he is, or what his political veiwpoints are, but let's face it, the man speaks nothing but the truth here. I can already see the counter-criticism coming from other mediamen (and women!)...The sad thing is, the "Hey, look over here America" tactic works all too well. The things we should be focusing on we simply aren't. I honestly blame a large part of that solely on the media (barring this guy, of course). Just my two cents.
@hurdlebeast you're probably right. At least he'll get to keep going as long as he is in the center of the newshub with that comment, since it would be too much backfire to fire the dude for that while he is in the spotlight
Why can't we get more media to focus on what's important? Instead the media turn our country's reporting into a glorified high school where it's all about gossip and popularity. Really people? Really? And you reporters are supposed to be the gate keepers of our news? Thank you to this man for calling them out on their foolishness! Refocus news reporters of America!
@TomCrewsrly How's he a hack? An actual centrist reporter? Shit, at least he doesn't work for Fox News or Air America.
He didn't say the media wasn't "ripping" BP, but rather that they're focusing ON THE WRONG ISSUE.
Seriously, was it prudent for Obama to cancel a trip to Asia for this? No. He's right- the Federal government has little they can do short term, so why try and look busy doing it?
The binary thinking, political polarization and outright stupidity of the United States will be its undoing.
"Everything is a political football" is the first step to destroying the very foundation of a strong united country.
Republicans and Democrats would love nothing more than to watch the United States suffer and die as long as they could place blame on the other party and childishly yell "i told you so".
If you are a politically partisan citizen of the United States, go fuck yourself.
obama is the WORST president in us history and if the spill is god's punishment for electing him maybe it can't be fixed in the short term but in the long term we can elect someone more like reagan although i doubt this guy can even vote (he sounds like a foreigner)
@j4pan youre an idiot, fareed is an american citizan and he has a valid point here. If you would stop trolling the comment board and actually listen to what he has to say then you would see that.
@j4pan next are you going to blame the poor financial climate on homosexuals?? are you going to blame poor foreign relations on all the illegal immigrants sabotaging america from within?? you cant blame anything on an 'act of god' you might as well say it was all caused by an invisible, fez wearing pink unicorn called sergio armstrong....because for the sake of this argument he is as realy as any religious figure
@j4pan Westbourough Baptist Church much? This is the kind of extremism, of any variety mind you, be it political, religious, economic, liberal, conservative, that is pulling this country apart at the seams. What needs to happen is our elected representatives at all stations need to take a step back, take a deep breath, worry less about being a media whore or getting reelected, and focus on some serious problem-solving.
