I have played most of the english translated Final Fantasy games, I must agree with kaminokami, you can be a fan and still not like everything about the games. I like the games as most people can see apart of themselves or someone they know in the characters, which connects you on an emotional level to the stroyline, which is the key to a compelling game. Like in FF-10 i think most ppl have had unaquainted love before. Anyways Final Fantasy is great and ill keep playing till death, Peace Out PPL

FFXII just didn't do it for me... I lost interest fast, because the battle system just... blows.... who would've thought that the turn based, hands on battle would keep the player more involved in the game rather than setting up an automatic attacking/healing system? haha

Oh good, I felt like I was the only person who thought this game was really lacking in the way of good storyline. :/ The main character wasn't even much of a main character. At all. He didn't have a cool past involving amnesia, and didn't turn out to be anything other than just a lowly theif.

If you're a real Final Fantasy fan you should have liked it, the story had a lot to do with the characters and they were only generic if you made them that way, you could have choosen different paths for all of them...oh well I suppose it just goes to show that there are only few real gamers out there now a days!
I agree. My own theory is that story should evolve around the characters. FF3 on snes is the best example of this. This story seemed random and many character were just extras. Penolope, Van, Fran had little to do with overall direction. It said when the extras have more stories than your characters.
I play Final Fantasy for the story, and everything else is just a bonus, but for this game it just was not good. Characters were very generic, it seemed like the story revolved around the governments and not the characters. I prefer any Final Fantasy over this one for story, especially FF10.

I'm sure that if they had used the old battle system, nobody would have went "Wow, this is the same as the other FF games. I'm disappointed." The endings as dull as the rest of the game. One long grind to a crap ending, worst FF ever. Need a return to traditional FF values IMO. Epic-emotive storyline, much cooler characters, Original FF battle system (not this warcraft style shat) and a world map ftw.

Easily the worst FF since 8, worse than 8 even. This game's combat system was new and fresh, but then again so was 8's. Basch taking over Gabranth's identity was probably the only thing he'd be remembered for, if even. Rest of the characters were just trash.
FF has really gone downhill. But the real prob is that you can't compare games like this to VII or IX b/c no matter what they will seem like absolute shit. I will say, the graphics and the enviornment were awesome, but what new games out that had tons of money poured into them don't look superb? The story was lacking and the gameplay was so repetative. And I def wasn't impressed with the ending at all. XII was really a waste of my time, but maybe I shouldn't expect so much anymore. *shrugs*
Sadly, I'm a Balthier/Fran fan and I was waiting the whole game to just see them kiss at the least. I Thought they would do it when they were stuck in the Bahamut together but I can't complain, they gave me a story without a love plot. Sacrifices must be made.

I was expecting a little extra bit after the credits, maybe showing Fran and Balthier, so I was a bit sad when "The End" came up after 111+ hours of play.
I prefer Cloud n Tifa or Tidus n Yuna than no love story at all. Oh they should make a game like this 1 but w/ the job system of FF Tactics or/n FFIII or even more jobs.

FF Romance is getting a bit old, and yes Final Fantasy X may possibly be the best one, but come on, you can't compare the two even though they're both Final Fantasy games. The only thing Vayne had in common with Sin/Yevon was that they both had something to do with the conflict in the game. The only thing the Battle Arena and Clan Centurio Hunts had in common was that you had to KILL something for sport!

Ahem, don't judge a games ending if you have never played a game. It really isn'y a fair judgement as there is story leading up to it. You do NOT need some mushy romance to make a game good, I like that they focused more on bigger things then just to people who fall for eachother. This game was beautifully done and from experience these are very likeable characters. I find myself more attached to them than past games.

This game was great but to easy, when you get the mysteks you can defeat every boss (until cid) with on blow, and even after that it was very easy.
The only challanges were zodiac, yiasmat and omega.
(and maybe Gilgamesh if you make the same mistake like me.)

why does everyone gets mad when someone critize FF XII? you people have to be more objective and recognize it,FF XII is a mistake made by square, I m sad because I am FF fan.FFXII was supposed to be perfect but is the complete opposite, square elimanted the turn based battles and the whole history of Final fantasy with it, the fanfarre(music) after the end of a battle, which was in EVERY FINAL FANTASY GAME, is gone and alot more of its history. Accept it people, FFXII is not a good game.

think:
Vaan, an ordinary rabanastran boy = Luke
Balthier, a sky pirate = Han solo
Ashe, of royal character = princess leia
Fran, not human, helps balthier = chewbaca
and more. the story is very the same you know.

Oh good, I felt like I was the only person who thought this game was really lacking in the way of good storyline. :/ The main character wasn't even much of a main character. At all. He didn't have a cool past involving amnesia, and didn't turn out to be anything other than just a lowly theif.
I'd much rather have a remake of FFVI or VII with good graphics or something. THOSE were a good games with great stories!

I loved this game, other people just couldn't understand it! If you're a real Final Fantasy fan you should have liked it, the story had a lot to do with the characters and they were only generic if you made them that way, you could have choosen different paths for all of them...oh well I suppose it just goes to show that there are only few real gamers out there now a days!

I agree. My own theory is that story should evolve around the characters. FF3 on snes is the best example of this. This story seemed random and many character were just extras. Penolope, Van, Fran had little to do with overall direction. It said when the extras have more stories than your characters.

I play Final Fantasy for the story, and everything else is just a bonus, but for this game it just was not good. Characters were very generic, it seemed like the story revolved around the governments and not the characters. I prefer any Final Fantasy over this one for story, especially FF10.

I'm sure that if they had used the old battle system, nobody would have went "Wow, this is the same as the other FF games. I'm disappointed." Anyway, you who have actually beaten the game. Don't you watch it? Balthier left a note for Vaan and a small pouch with Ashe's ring in it. Vaan only borrowed the Strahl for a while.

The endings as dull as the rest of the game. One long grind to a crap ending, worst FF ever. Need a return to traditional FF values IMO. Epic-emotive storyline, much cooler characters, Original FF battle system (not this warcraft style shat) and a world map ftw.

viii was the one after that and so far, in my opinion, is the best ff out of the whole series, after that was vagrant story and was a fan of squaresoft for a while or up until they merged with enix.. seriously valkyrie profile was another overrated piece of side-scroller (seriously collecting sound bites was the mini-game???)

Easily the worst FF since 8, worse than 8 even. This game's combat system was new and fresh, but then again so was 8's. Basch taking over Gabranth's identity was probably the only thing he'd be remembered for, if even. Rest of the characters were just trash.

FF has really gone downhill. But the real prob is that you can't compare games like this to VII or IX b/c no matter what they will seem like absolute shit. I will say, the graphics and the enviornment were awesome, but what new games out that had tons of money poured into them don't look superb? The story was lacking and the gameplay was so repetative. And I def wasn't impressed with the ending at all. XII was really a waste of my time, but maybe I shouldn't expect so much anymore. *shrugs*

Sadly, I'm a Balthier/Fran fan and I was waiting the whole game to just see them kiss at the least. I Thought they would do it when they were stuck in the Bahamut together but I can't complain, they gave me a story without a love plot. Sacrifices must be made.

I thought this game was missing a lot in the story line. The gameplay was okay, but i'd rather play FFX than this. Square enix needs to do a great job with FFXIII or else i think people will be seriously disappointed.

FF Romance is getting a bit old, and yes Final Fantasy X may possibly be the best one, but come on, you can't compare the two even though they're both Final Fantasy games. The only thing Vayne had in common with Sin/Yevon was that they both had something to do with the conflict in the game. The only thing the Battle Arena and Clan Centurio Hunts had in common was that you had to KILL something for sport!

Ahem, don't judge a games ending if you have never played a game. It really isn'y a fair judgement as there is story leading up to it. You do NOT need some mushy romance to make a game good, I like that they focused more on bigger things then just to people who fall for eachother. This game was beautifully done and from experience these are very likeable characters. I find myself more attached to them than past games.
