  • For your oatmeal cookies did you use baking soda or baking powder....my recipe calls for baking soda not powder. I will private message you my recipe and another recipe for an tasty appetizer that is not bad for you :)

  • My mistake was using a tablespoon of baking powder instead of a teaspoon!

  • oh yea! the quarter! like I said, I'll send a better one later. I don't blame Pat about fussing about the dog, I mean, they brought the dog over, it wasn't your problem.

  • Michael has a bit of sweet tooth there huh!

i don't know about those cookies, but i do know a good moist cake cookie recipe. Not what you needed though huh lol

  • Michael doesn't admit to a sweet tooth, but I think it is there!

    - roc

  • Don't feel bad Roc My Cats Lost Too! =( Oh well maybe next year.

  • ((sigh)) Yes, I am looking forward to next year's season! Who do you think will be going to the Superbowl? Steelers and Eagles?? Maybe? - roc

  • Yeah, That's The Two Teams I Am Thinkin' Will Be There Too, Roc. Steelers & Eagles. That Would Be Wild An All Pennsylvania Superbowl. LOL! It would Be A Great Game Too, IMHO. I Don't Know Who Would Come Out On Top In That Match-Up Either. It Would Be A Nailbiter For Sure.

  • It will be a nail biter, Michael. I will raise a glass to you during the game!

  • Thanks Roc. =) Enjoy The Game.

  • Go to Martha Stewart's website - she has a great recipe for oatmeal cookies - you can just add chocolate chips. If you can't find it there, let me know and I will send the recipe in a private message.

  • Thanks, Jenny. I will do a search and find the recipe. Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are my favourite and I was quite disappointed. - roc

  • did you use that baking soda?? i think you did. now see what you did to all those other people with the other cookies! shoulda given the oatmeal cookies to the brute ;)

  • NO, I didn't use that baking soda!!! The recipe called for baking POWDER instead of soda! I might have put too much in ... The Brute wouldn't eat the oatmeal cookies. He says he hates oatmeal. He's very fussy I guess. -roc

  • LOL, ok you didn't use that baking soda. shoulda told the brute you only had healthy food in your house & oatmeal cookies were healthier than chocolate! hmph fussy brute ;)

  • I haven't made cookies in so long that i have no idea what might be wrong with yours. I can't believe Michael ate all the CC ones.. What about the example he is supposed to be setting? LOL I think the squirrels have eaten all my bird seed. I might need to find a way to keep them out.

  • You need to buy an anti squirrel bird feeder, Judy! Seed is too expensive to just feed the little rats! -roc

  • LOL! Yes, there is an "r" in prostrate. After the 8th try, I might've just quit and said "flat on the floor."

I suspect you may have had too litle liquid in the cookies. Normally they'll ooze out flat when they bake. It might've been that the different oatmeal soaked up more than its share.

(Or... if they went in flat and then blew up, it could've been too much leavening; i.e. baking soda / baking powder.)

They're probably very good with chocolate syrup.....

  • I was only supposed to use 1/2 a cup of milk. I think it was a bad recipe. I'm going to make the chocolate chip cookies again. They were successful! -roc

  • Okay, I quit hearing anything after... 'pole dancing'... ?

BTW oatmeal cookies are supposed to have raisins, not chocolate chips. :)

  • POLE DANCING! - roc

  • Roc, if you'd like a California quarter, send me your address... :)

(And I dunno what happened to your cookies...I baked choc. chip ones today, and they were so moist. Well, when I got home a few hours later, they're hard. Argh!)

    Sandi

  • Thanks, Sandi! It seems like a lot of trouble to bake anything, but I AM going to try again! - roc

  • I'd be devastated too if my prostate fell on the floor. How would I put it back in?

As for your baking problem, search on YouTube for:

Good Eats S3E6P1: Three Chips For Sister Marsha

Make sure you watch both parts. Alton Brown shows how to modify the same cookie recipe to make thin, puffy, or chewy cookies. To turn thin cookies into puffy cookies, he used shortening instead of butter, added two eggs instead of one, used baking powder instead of baking soda, and

  • made sure the dough was colder (the outside of the cookie will bake before the fat on the inside can melt). He also mentions freezing the cookies in a Ziploc bag. Does Pat watch the show?

  • Anyway, maybe it'll help you figure out what went wrong and how to make your cookies spread more. I don't know jackshit about this stuff.

  • You are the only one to mention the prostate, Matt! Fancy that! I like Alton Brown! I will search for that programme and learn more about cookies. Thanks for the tip. You certainly paid attention! Yes, Pat watches the show - we both do. You seem to know a lot about how to make a cookie spread! - roc

  • Great vlog as always roc. We must do something to stop Rita from talking the way she is! I had a giggle at Michael wanting chocolate syrup and dunking the cookies in the milk! Hahaaa!!! :-D

  • I bet you could just picture Michael and the cookies! -roc

  • The couch is exactly the same, you two are two of the same :-)

  • I went back and watched Beth's video again, Ran, and the two couches are very very close. I never would have called mine

    green though! - roc

  • Lovely new little couch roc. The darned squirrels have already broken out latest bird feeder. What a mess!! Did you get your hair done? hugs, Chris

  • You need a squirrel proof feeder, Chris! No, my hair just seemed to decide to go where I wanted it to go today. I dread the next cut. - roc

  • Like to hear more bout the pole Dance:)

I believe you need to use rolled oats. Not a big fan of the cinnamon in the cookies.

  • The pole dancing was supposed to be private!!!!! That Rita! I didn't like the cinnamon... - roc

  • Cookies? There are cookies?? I am coming right over.

  • PM your address and I will send you a Texas quarter.

  • Okay. Thanks, Van. - roc

  • i had to have cookies after i watched this. now i feel guilty. i guess michael is all about - do as i say,not as i do.

  • Bonnie, I suspect that is a little bit true! Don't feel guilty about the cookies. Life is short! Enjoy. - roc

  • Don't listen to Bryan; he is a doll basher, he hates naked dolls!

    Sorry your boys lost:-(

I have a bucket here that I fill with bread, seed, fruit and pecans in the shell for all the out side critters and birds. I enjoy watching them.

  • The birds need their seed right now, MaryKay! It is cold and hard to find food! - roc

  • Oh I know Roc.

I feed mine by my house every day and then I drive down to Walmart and buy bags of bread and feed the Seagulls that come inland because of lack of food on the beaches.

The Seagulls head for Wal-mart looking for handouts.

  • Oranges and grapefruit is great together! -roc

  • My daughter is beside herself with happiness because the Steelers won! I dont pay much attention to the television. I request that you PM me with your address please. If you have any problems with questioning me you can feel free to ask Beth. I have sent her things at points and times. *smiles* Just put that in there because we have not known each other too long. Nice loveseat, looks cofmy! Nice to see you, love your vlogs! HUGS xoxoxo

  • STEELERS! They did well! Big Ben had a good game. I will pm you, Peggy. Thanks for the great comment. - roc

  • Hmmm, cookies - the only thing I can say is that there is no real difference between the types of oats other than how thinly they are sliced; that's what changes the time they need to cook. Unless you buy the packets with chemicals in them, then I don't know. But that should not change how they rise or spread out. Did you verify the amount & type of fat? That will change how they spread. Golly, the brute eats his cookies with milk. Sorta cute. I hope the puppy learns quickly.

  • Liz, the recipe said 1 stick of unsalted butter. And I used real oatmeal, not the little packets. I was very surprised they didn't spread out! I am going to give them (the cookies) ti my grandson. He will eat anything and then I won't feel guilty about throwing away all that chocolate! I am going back to the chocolate chip cookies.

The puppy is adorable and I forgave her as soon as the poop popped out! Michael cleaned it all up. - roc

  • Great solution - kids are not as fussy as we are. Sorry not to be able to help. I like your yard. It does have a look of backing up to the wood and that is so nice. But about this pole dancing thing - I'd suggest never trusting anyone who drinks with your secrets. You can blame Beth for getting you drunk, but she's not the one who told... that's all I'm saying...

  • The back yard is great in the summer, Liz. You'd never know there were houses back there with all the wild growth! Because we are in a condo, our space only goes to the closest trees, but no one ever uses all the area you can see beyond the trees. Very private! Beth never would have said anything. It was Rita's loose lips. Payback will be harsh, I am sure!

  • I think I had clavicelation. Such a feeling of peace. Your hair looks nice today. I think you would say you're having a good hair day but I like your hair every day, so whadoIknow.

I hope the poop came up cleanly and didn't leave a mark. Shees and it looks like you have near white carpets.

Dunno what happened to the cookies. Maybe too much baking powder? You need a forensic baker.

I hope you enjoy your new TV. Don't leave it on the tv guide channel or video games. They burn in easy.

  • Dave, do I need to always wear a turtleneck? I forget about the clavicles and always am surprised that everyone watches for that!! Ha ha - it is really funny. Makes me chuckle every time. AND, when I go to my gym and Michael sees me, he yells "clavicles" across the room. Everyone stares. The poop was little bullets and very easy. Michael took care of it. Ah. Too much baking powder... I thought the batter sort of foamed up. I will have to check... I put in two tablespoons... maybe it

  • Part 2 ... should have only been teaspoons.

I hope to enjoy the tv, too, but I am not sure. Pat really wanted it ... We have this nice cabinet in the livingroom that has wood doors to close the TV eye when it isn't being used. We can't use the cabinet anymore because it is for a 27 inch tv. I am sad. - roc

  • Please don't start wearing turtlenecks. Geez, I'll need yet another prescription. It's just that they are so refreshing. Like a fine sculpture.

Poop bullets are not so bad. What a polite doggie.

What size TV is the new one?

I want to hear what Tammy/Yoyomax has to say about the cookies. She is the closest thing to a forensic baker I know.

  • The tv is huge. 42 inches. Scary. I am almost at the point of canceling the delivery, except Pat would be devastated. I am waiting for Tammy too. She hasn't been by yet, but she will, I am confident.

  • Very glad I read other people's comments before I add my own! lol.

Sometimes if you use butter instead of margarine or vice-versa it causes the cookies to flatten (or not flatten) during baking.

Two tablespoons of baking powder seems like a lot, maybe it was teaspoons. I have a really good oatmeal/raisin (or chocolate chip) recipe if you would like it. They spread out a bit and are not cakey in the least.

  • Thanks, Tammy. I suspect I put too much baking powder in the mix. It sort of frothed. PM me the oatmeal chocolate chip recipe if you have time. Thanks! -roc

  • I think the cookes must have no fat. That might be it. I made some the other day with rolled oats and they came out the same way.

  • Huh. The recipe said to use 1 stick of butter. Dave (below your comment) said it might be too much baking powder.

How are you Tammy?? - roc

  • Baking powder can do that too. Mine used applesauce instead of butter or oil. Im good.... just getting back into the swing of things. :)

  • I am glad you are on that swing again!

  • hey hey. havent really been in a video watching mood, but im trying to get back into it. ill go back and try to catch up on them. im not sure what went on with your cookies, but i cant stand it when a baking thing doesn't go right. I'd like to send you a wisconsin quarter! lol all the cookies? lol big woosy : )

  • I understand about needing to be in a watching mood! It comes and goes from time to time.

My grandson will love all those cookies... he'll eat anything!

    - roc

  • Poor put upon Pat, his life is for the birds.

  • heh heh heh!!! - roc

  • aahhhh the clavicles, is that my reward for going a couple of days without your smiling face.........I can live with that ;)

  • heh heh heh. Actually, I mean "rolling on the floor laughing my ass off"!! Any mention of my clavicles always sends me into a fit of laughter. It really is funny and for me (at least) the joke just doesn't get tired!!! Thanks for noticing, David!

    - roc

  • um, I don't want you to think I'm some kind of whacko/pervert clavicle stalker, but who was joking? Certainly much, MUCH sexier than Rita's ;) and is it just me, or does she look so much like her brother, Bryan, that it's SCARY!!

  • Even I thought Rita was lookin' quite hot last night!

    You made me laugh again.

  • Do you know that they have banned the sale of plasma tv's here because they are not energy-efficient? Apparently they use 8 times more electricity than the LCD tv's

I liked seeing Pat feed the birds, i'd like to see more of your yard and surrounding area

    x hugs x

  • Oh my. They didn't tell us that! I will have to investigate. Thanks for the info, Twish. - roc

  • Michael can afford all the C.C. cookies and chocolate milk because he works out so much, he probably burnt it all up before he left your house.

Thank you for showing us Pat feeding the birds. I need to look for some sort of feeder that will work here. I did once have the perfect feeder, but I got tired of the birds shitting all overy my fence. It may still be in the back of the storage shed. I will look today.

The couch looks almost exactly like the one we'll be getting.

  • I TOLD you about the couch being almost the same! AND, the free recliner you are getting is very very close to Pat's old chair. (we got him a new one when we moved) Birds poop a lot and I am not fond of it in the summer, but whadaryagonnado? Nothing. The big feeder is a weighted perch to prevent the squirrels from vacuuming the seed.

Michael eats a lot. I should have taken a picture of the enormous pot of chili. We only had a little left. He enjoyed it!

  • LOL! That Rita is going to be hot on you tonight. Well dang it, I really need to get my pkg out to you. I have had my Hawaii quarter ready for you even before you got your Ohio one. And now I am going to seem like some sort of copycat, aren't I? I just cannot find a corect sized box.

Hmm, I'm not sure what you did wrong with the oatmeal cookies.

Sorry your boys didn't go all the way. But at least Michael's team didn't go any further than your boys.

  • That Rita and her tall tales! Maybe we should tell Rita stories. Problem is that everyone EXPECTS there to be shocking Rita stories because she is shocking anyway! You have a Hawaii quarter for me?? Oh boy. I am going to give all the oatmeal cookies to my grandson. He won't even notice that they are icky. He'll just eat and then ask what it was that he ate... (boys!) - roc

  • I think we should start telling our own little Rita stories. Yep, I think so.

I do have the Hawaii quarter! I swear I will get that package sent out by the end of this week. Or Monday. ;)

Boys can't tell. They will just eat and eat. Scott is the same way. Except he wouldn't eat oatmeal. He's weird.

  • Michael wouldn't eat the oatmeal either. He says it is worse than grapefruit. What kind of Rita story can we tell? It needs to be a good one - one she'd never suspect we would reveal.

    ...?

  • I bet that she is not even a pole dancer. She's a little big, don't you think? She'd never be able to spin around a pole. I bet she's an Avon representative, given the fact that she applies her makeup so...carefully ;)

  • huh. She IS a little big. I never noticed before. AVON?? How tacky is that???

  • I CAN NOT believe he ate all the chocolate chip cookies. He would have had a cow if you did that.

Boy you are not having to good of a week there Roc. PPl are telling your secrets about pole dancing, failed cookies, boys did poorly in the game. I sure hope it gets better. Sorry to hear about the cookies. Maybe it is just a bad recipe. Happens to the best of us though. If you will PM me your addy I will send you a NY quater and any others I can find. Maybe that will perk up your week.

  • or quarter.

    Sigh, why can't I type?

  • Heh heh - I understood!

  • I guess you could say he saved me from myself! No cookies left for me to inhale! That is interesting about my week! I gave blood today and had to wait for an hour. Tomorrow: the dentist. Thursday: Michael again and he is annoyed I can't get my two and a half pounds off. That means the session will be brutal! Oh well. It will give me something to talk to you about! - roc

  • Roc!! Good to see you! I know nothing about cookies..I don't eat them and don't normally make them..so I will be of no help I am afraid..

As for Michael..he needs to practice what he preaches..lol..eating cookies in front of you..tisk, tisk..:)

    Have a great day!!

  • He just inhaled the cookies and today, he asked me to make him more. We'll see!!! - roc

  • Hi! good to hear from you.

  • Hugs, - roc

  • Your hair looks quite lovely today. Hugs!

  • Thanks, Melissa! -roc
