Enbridge has had 800+ spills, another this week as public hearings start. Gov blames "foreign funded radical environmentalists" for slowing his agenda. With over 4000+ people scheduled to speak, 12 are foreign funded, these12 are representing big oil. 80% of BC oppose this proposal. If Canada has a scrap of democracy left, this will never be more than a tyrants dream and some disappointed shareholders. Canada's biggest oil client is the US. The US uses 360 000 barrels of oil a day on WAR alone.

Under normal circumstances, the jobs/growth/energy argument is valid. But tar sands =/= crude oil, its scraping the bottom of the oil barrel in terms of efficiency and return on investment, it's purely short-term profit that only benefits a few in the long run. Limitless growth worked but by definiton can't forever. Read anything by Nicole Foss or Richard Heinberg. A few years of prosperity and then bust again with tons of permanently irreplaceable destruction? Not a good business plan.

We have refineries. Are you stupid? Are you telling me you have never seen an oil refinery in canada before?

The reason why is that it is more expensive to separate the components and sell individually. Besides, if we just sold the good stuff, we would be stuck with all the byproducts.
