  • Newsnight. is the bollocks....

  • lol this is why celebs should stay off political shows

  • His argument is over shadowed by his hypocrisy.

  • Sting is watching porn on his monitor as paxman grills him.

  • Fact, Sting is a massive hypocrite. Jezza forgot to mention the Jaguar ad Sting made in 2000, whilst singing Desert Rose in the back of said car. A sorely missed opportunity by usually very sharp interviewer !! As Viz once mentioned, Sting ecowarrior cum Jaguar car salesman& Police frontman turned arsehole. To Sting fans, can you justify how the same person can promote a large carbon emitting vehicle and say, at the same time, that he saves the environment. Come on Sting fans, I need to know!!

  • Google the term Aunt Sally because your arguement is a perfect example. Owning a piece of plastic is different from mass producing it and then lecturing the world about its evils.

  • corporations always says that ppl needs their industry services and the only ones who gets rich are themselves... this is human ambition only; ppl need electricity or wood? or big corporation needs to be rich? the answer is simple... fuck this pacman guy!!!!

  • yea sting can just say fuck this ,hes a decent person ,why should he even listen to that pacman idot

  • The last three people I heard talking about higher taxes and wage-freezes were Sting, Bill Gates, and the chairman of the Bank of England.

Do they even begin to comprehend how fucking galling it is to have a multi-millionaire tell a poor family that they need to pay more and earn less?

  • Stings carbon footprint could be measured in fire extinguishers, and he likes to preach about the environment?? Fuck off!

  • What a pretentious half-wit Sting is.

  • Sting does look like a tramp, though.

  • Didn't Sting do a car ad for Jaguar a few years back?

  • Who needs a Rain forest anyhow stick a few Tesco's in there. That will help the indigenous people more. By the way Im stupid. I know not what i write.

  • Wash that shirt and buy a razor.

  • Be sure to go out and buy Stings' new CD, its out now!! Printed on polycarbonate plastic. It's claimed that this hypocrite has sold approx 60 million albums as a solo artist and a further 55 million with the police. thats a larger fucking amount of plastic that any person reading this can comprehend.

This is the epitome of what you would call a hypocrite. No amount of hemp shirts and pretentious beards will convince me that he isnt just a fucking hypocritical douchebag planet polluter.

  • @addict247365 lmao geezer

  • @addict247365 another square minded... so he should invented a way of selling CDs with no plastic or any organic material which requires to cut trees or something, before he became a musician?? He is NoT a chemical engineer!! you know... that's what all fucking ppl in all fucking industries should think about before sell all their fucking products; he is not guilty about the whole fucking system! and at this point you can't say that is more ecologic a "wood CD" than a plastic (tree-safe) CD

  • Why has that black dude got a bird bath stuck to his bottom lip?

  • @dilwich123 Thirsty birds land on his lip and he quickly bites their heads off, eats the meat, and makes birds of paradise hats which are sold to the rich and fashionable in Paris and elsewhere.

  • The people who accuse Sting of hypocrisy are no doubt often deflecting attention from their own lack of activism. There's no intelligence or nuance from these people. Sting may be the biggest dick in world.. who cares - he is TRYING to do help with this massive problem. We need critical debate about his work, sure, but not bitchy hypocritical jealous cynical bullshit...

  • @MrDarkbloom You've missed the point about hypocrisy: if you advocate a way of life that you in no way follow yourself, it goes some way to proving that your argument is empty. Furthermore. like all his fellow pretentious singers who advocate a socialist/ecologist agenda, he made his multi-millions selling a non-essential product made of plastic. A bit contradictory really - multi-millions/socialist and plastic/ecologist. If you are sincere in your belief, how can you say HE is trying to help?

  • @burtingtune OK, well, please answer this: What should Sting do - how much should he practice what he preaches - for us not to call him a hypocrite??

  • @MrDarkbloom: If he were sincere in his belief, two things he could do to start would be to sell 5 of the 6 houses he owns around the world that sit empty and use hotels when travelling; and he would refuse to have any of his music produced on CD or DVD and only available on line reducing the use of plastics. You and I may have different views on ecology but I would guess that you practise what you belief in which is something I can respect. Being preached at by Sting merely antgonises people.

  • @burtingtune that's Bullshit so now everybody who has a piece of paper at home, can't talk about ecology right? or a plastic bottle? HE IS trying to help cause he cares and speaks about it... it's not about "socialist" or "ecologist" stupid cliches, it's about ideas, even an idiot can have a good idea and make a change, he doesn't pretend to be Jesus and be perfect in all ways, he's just a musician trying to help mother Nature which most rich ppl in the world don't give a shit about or poor ppl

  • Sting is well known to be one of the most arrogant people alive today. His slouched posture and sleepy demeanor during the interview did little to help him get across his important message.

  • @AllyWheels I thought he was simply relaxed and thoughtful. It goes to show how one's attitude towards a person can cloud one's perception.

  • "ooh is it more about sting than the rain forests" what a pathetic bitchy little comment even if it was (and it wasnt) so what?

  • Every move you make, every breath you take, he'll offset your carbon dioxide emissions

  • sting is a capitalist

  • Paxman is a capatalist

  • @TheatreFracture so what?

  • What a prick this Paxman is. I wish him death and to all the likes. That will improve the enviroment.

  • Comment removed

  • @ricardofuego Why? All hes doing is asking questions, if nobody did that this guy could be doing somthing really bad and nobody would know.. If he has nothing to hide then he wouldnt care about people asking him questions

  • WHY DON'T YOU JUST BUY UP THE LAND THEN...

Sounds like he could easily tack 'ya fuckin cunt' on the end, haha. gotta love that paxman tone.

  • Paxman asked some difficult questions, and Sting answered the best one could in that situation. It's civil and quite intelligent overall. This is how journalism should be like. I don't see how this clip warrants hating either of them.

  • @merdufer couldn't agree more

  • Every breath Sting takes sounds clogged up. I hope he is okay.

  • at least the guy is trying to do something - he could just sit in his mansion having a tantric wank

  • How many rain forests have been felled to make guitars?

  • I like Sting, I thought he was quite fair and reasonable in his answers. He doesn't claim to be an expert, just a pop star trying to give a voice to some causes that strike him as important.

  • Paxman does ask some pretty probing questions but I think Sting held up well...but when Paxman tried to pin him down on specifics he just evaded the question claiming it was not his responsibility. Thats the thing you suspect about celebrities. They are not economists or politicians but when you take a stand, you should have all the facts. You suspect its just all about making a big noise, hugging a few natives then jumping back on the jet with that nice warm feeling inside.

  • I have to admit sting was quite sincere and reasonable, hard to corner someone like that.

  • Here is the question, why should I cut back, whilst some wealthy Chinese industrialist, is chauffeured driven around in his Rolls Royce Phantom?

  • Funny how many people here bash Sting because he speaks of the protection of rainforests and people's natural habitats. Yes, he is rich, but is he richer than banks and corporations CEOs...and is he supposed to be like most celebs who won't say shit about any just cause whatsoever.

As for Paxman he's a smug, he's also a celebrity and not exactly poor I reckon, so what does exactly do for others to tell one who does a hypocrite? what a sorry arse

  • Sting although a hipocrite is not as much a hipocrite as Bono.

  • They're both awesome

  • sting kicked paxman's ass on this one

  • Stings accent is so pretentious, he sounds like prince Charles, what a dreadful little arse he's become.

  • @Jackiesstash08 fuck up

  • Sting's ok in my book. ANYONE would love to be as wealthy as him. At least he does'nt try to rub people's noses in it, and at least the man has a social concience. Lots of pop stars, rappers, footballers, etc etc, spunk HUGE amounts of money up the wall on NOTHING. At least he's using his fame for a cause.

  • sting IS a hypocrite, they all are. imagine what sting, bono, geldoff, all of them who 'care' so much about the world could do if they put all of their money into a pot, that would be billions upon billions, they could make serious dents in these problems, but they'd rather be incredibly wealthy and important environmentalists rather than genuine environmentalists.

the ones who care are those that work unpaid for these causes, donating ALL of their spare money and time.

  • Agree with the above. Sting answered honestly and unpretentiously, Paxman respectfully gave him the hard questions that the public are probably thinking. Good interview.

  • @ChristopherDone Makes a change for one of the most pretentious people Ive seen

  • Sting, great singer and songwriter but a self-satisfied, smug anus of a man.

  • @peacefrog1916 Agree with your entire two part view of him

  • Damned Geordies.

  • How do those South American locals kiss with their lips like that?

  • "We're joined by the singer known as...er...Sting." So funny, Paxman doesn't give a shit about sucking up to celebs.

  • [Lesley Stahl on U.S. sanctions against Iraq: "We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?"; Secretary of State Madeleine Albright: "I think this is a very hard choice, but the price--we think the price is worth it." — "60 Minutes" (5/12/96)]

  • @Arsezz, "he should stick to writing shite songs and stop trying to make the world dance to his tune."

    Make your mind up, "twat"

  • It certainly seems that politico-cum-celebrities are, at best, ersatz eco-spokesmen, laughably impotent at best and malevolently distracting at worst. While guys like Sting and Bono should probably be lauded for their good intentions - and I have a slight bias in favor of politically-bent musicians versus politically-bent movie stars - a certain degree of hubris does waft about them at times. Artists will always be impotent; that is part of their humanistic charm and tormented fervor.

  • Charity starts at home. With all his millions he should delve into a little philanthropy. Maybe pay for the renovation and introduction of renewable nrg tech in say the nearest council estate he grew up in. This helps reduce bills for the poor in our country and help the environment. And if every rich fuck did that, we would soon heal the planet. But no, too much money wrapped up in oil. There's no point in introducing children to this shitty planet

  • This man is a fucking twat. never ceases to amaze me how much this horrible humna being engages in self promotion. He went up the amazon with a bloody entourage of 80 people including his stylist. He's also got an addiction to S&M prostitutes in Berlin despite all the tantric sex boasting. It's all hog shit.

  • @conalrs "He's also got an addiction to S&M prostitutes in Berlin" And er how do you know that ?How is that relevant to this video?

  • people like this cunt sting really bug me. they actually believe their childish silly opinions matter!!! look pal, we don't give two fucks what your beliefs are, stick to making records and leave politics to other people. you and the other prick bono would be working as fucking car valets if it wasn't for the fact that some people actually buy the shite you sing about. i'm not one of them so fuck off.

  • @nuipret "their childish silly opinions"

It's silly to have the opinion that war and starvation should be avoided, is it?

If people like sting just sit back and count their money, others will accuse them of being complacent and uncaring. So they can't win.

  • Sting does have an important point to make about the dams 'renewable energy' credentials being only part of the picture which doesn't take into account the great cost (the rainforests that water system feeds), but Paxman is avoiding this and instead looking for a confrontation. Not one of Paxman's best moments.

  • STING - great musician

    SHIT politican

  • Makes me sad reading all these comments hating Sting. Paxman could have focused on the plight of the indigenous people but that wouldn't get headlines so he tried to get a quote out of Sting to get some coverage for his poor ass show. Journalism at its worse. If you take Paxmans basic argument that Sting is a hypocrite then anyone in the western world that talks about the environment will be tarred with the same brush. Still keeps the lets hate the celeb cause our lives are shit brigade happy.

  • sting is such a tit

  • Andrew Michell is right. It is difficult question. We need less energy then. He does more good than harm.

  • Andrew Michell is right. It is difficult question. We need less energy then.

  • Paxman plays the role of the bully. He cuts his 'guests' off at every opportunity.

  • I agree its a red herring. Sting has more than offset any damage he has done over the years whereas almost everyone else in the UK is only draining and damaging the world. Do you know how many products have palm oil in them? Read you labels and remember every time you use them you are destroying the rain forest.

  • Sting didn't flap once when being 'paxoed', so good on him.

  • haha paxmans intro, shows really just how unimpressed he is with the whole idea of celebrity enviromental work

  • No matter what you think of Paxman, the fact is he really does have a point here. This world is full of hypocritical mega rich celebs who try and tell the masses how to conduct their lives but aren't prepared to practice what they preach.

  • Oh man, I love Paxman

  • Paxman rulz man. He's simply awesome.

  • have cake and eat it

  • I think Paxman was provoking to get some proper answers which he knows Sting can give. Not to out-do him or win.

Sting usually has fawning interviewers who fail to get to the real issues.

Only by challenging him about buying the surrounding land does Sting say that mining companies etc. own it.

  • I am half of Paxman's age and I find his intelligence, arrogance and accent sexy!

  • @apostatesspeak It's not arrogance it's candor.

  • I would love to see Bono & Geldof on Paxman

  • contrary to expectation, I come out more in favour for Sting and irritated by Paxman's easy vitriol.

  • alas the logical fallacy of an ad hominem attack....

  • did paxman just say cheers?

  • i didnt think taxman battered sting..i thought sting put up a good fight.i find them both very pretentiuos.

  • ...more importantly though...i can't say i hate him, he is just as most on this page have pointed out....A GIGANTIC HYPOCRITICAL COCK!!

  • ...hmmm...it seems you say more about yourself with that comment than the people you are attempting to sum up with your ridiculous assumption. ...I can see you now, typing whilst munching through a pack of cheetos....he doesnt want to just help people, he like you just wants to berate the people who he sees as the problem so he can look good, this is about perception, you don't actually have to do alot to be perceived as the caring human being he wants to be seen as....

  • It's all about the money. Period.

  • "You're not being blamed for it you're just being accused of hypocrisy, that's all."

    LOL!

  • What the hell is the beard all about?

  • what a pretentious prick

  • Reading the comments here, I am surprised at the criticism of Sting: I should say I am not from the UK, I don't know if there's something other people know about Sting that I don't. However, It's my impression that what Sting does is generally pretty good: he has a social/environmental conscience, he's using his fame, acting on it. I felt Paxman could have been more polite and less accusatory or indignant in his manner ( I thought Sting was being quite polite.)

  • I can't stand

    I can't stand

    I can't stand

    I can't stand hearing YYYYYYYYYOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUU

    Sting shut yer pus

  • how hard are you trying? come along known as sting

  • i think anyone with any intelligence would see sting did not get " stung" to me he was humble in this interview but could have called paxman a big nosed stuck up fuckwit incredible self control and maturity...

  • pfff for a start ...these natives should be speaking in their native tongue not portuguese....if they want to prove their independence

  • mr gorden sting ,wot a twat

  • I don't think Sting got 'stung' at all. Paxo admitted that Sting's celebrity status gives him a public platform to try and do some good, but refused to see that that celebrity status comes from touring, which necessarily involves planes and trucks and an entourage. Sting answered honestly and unevasively, admitting ignorance when he couldn't answer. 1-0 to Sting for keeping his cool in the face of Paxman childishly playing to an audience who hate Sting just for continuing to be successful.

  • @thebigstephen: I agree. He was honest about the situation and answered the questions to the best of his ability. I noticed that when he pointed out that the Indians would die if the dam were built, Paxman had no comment. it's kind of a relevant point that the structure would wipe out an entire community of human beings.

  • dont'cha just love Paxman's awkward questions.

  • STING, YOUN HYPOCRITE!

  • Paxman exploits Sting's uncoolnes. Yes. The same Jeremy Paxman who's so cool he writes books about the royal family!

  • Carbon junkie Sting talks more bollocks I see.

  • sting may have been a cool name for him once but come on hes nearly 60 now go back to your real name

  • "You're not being blamed for it you're just being accused of hypocrisy that's all"

    Haha, Jeremy is king.

  • Sting does alright really considering he isn't actually a politician and is out of his depth

  • Typical Brit "journalism".

  • Weller was right sting is an obnoxious wanker.

  • @gordywilson That's put Paul Weller up higher in my estimation.

  • well i was expecting sting to get a paxman beating but i think he comes out of it extremely well.

  • The Police were shit.

  • Wouldn't be a big Sting fan,but I think he defends himself well enough here

  • Comment removed

  • @krayte ... and you don't even know how to spell KNOW

  • Get the openion Paxman just doesn't like Sting.

  • Comment removed

  • Since when did Sting start talking like a political cunt?

  • Paxman is the king of "tearing a new one"

  • is it me or is sting breathing EXTREMELY heavily..?

  • @KazooDuude I was just thinking that my self, nervous you reckon? Or crapping him self at the fact he is at the mercy of one of the most formidable journalists in the world?

  • Comment removed

  • "Nervous"absolutely not,I would say "Dismissive" of some questions.

This interview like most of its ilk are complete bullshit. The carbon footprint of Sting is clearly nothing to do with the rape and pillage of the World and its ultimate decline at the hands of CORRUPT GOVERNMENT ,orchestrated in the main by the UK and US, with ZIONISM at the helm.Once we as a people realise this we may be in a position to eliminate Planet Genocide in all of its contexts

  • what is in the mouth of those creatures

  • @GenevaSwiss

    Moron.

  • @donnyab I swear i want to know what is in their mouth... please let me know...

  • The beard does him no favours although I appreciate what he's trying to achieve by wearing it. He acknowledges his limitations and sticks to what he knows. He held up well.

Can't understand why he's the highest paid musician though.

  • are most people on here just jealous of sting? are is there something more? he's a celebraty, who cares what he thinks or does, i enjoy his music, i don''t give a toss about his politics, it isn't what I pay for.

  • are most people on here just jealous of sting? are is there something more? he's a celebraty, who cares what he thinks or does, i enjoy his music, i don''t give a toss about his politics, it isn't what I pay for

  • I want to see Paxman mauling Bono next. If these obscenely rich celebrities are so concerned, why don't they give away a large percentage of their enormous wealth?

  • Lentil-eatin', sandal-wearin', tree-huggin', heavy - breathin' bastard. Get him Paxo! Sting hasn't a clue about the real, pragmatic underlying issues.

  • This sting bloke is a fucking pillock. He owned a private jet which he keeps quiet about

  • rich in the bank poor in the brain, poor sting has been humiliated

  • Who is this scruffy, unshaven, lentil eating, hippie and what has he done with Sting???

  • Skip to 4:33 for the actual interview

  • he's a twat isnt he

  • I'd love to wrap that bastard cello round his stupid twat head.

  • I understand people may have a chip on their shoulder about celebrity posturing but speaking out for a community that is being ignored is of far more value than this sorry attempt at journalism. For shame.

  • @Schniddo I agree, whatever you think of Sting as a person (possibly a hypocrite) or musician (possibly very naff) - the truth is that he is lending his voice to people that don't have much of a voice, people who's culture, environment and way of life is under threat... like most if not all tribal people.

  • Good to see Paxman bring that obnoxious prick Sting down

  • sting is an utter embarrassment to this country

  • I'd like to shove my carbon footprint up that arrogant fuckers asscrack. Sitting there, the smug prick, telling us how to run our lives. What are the odds he had a stretch limo waiting to pick him up after that farcial interview. Or that he had seen the inside of a plane, on average, over 100 times a year.

  • sting is a total wanker

  • aye a hamsters one at that

  • Thank christ these people have no electricity to play his crap cds and a blessing if they dont speak English either listening to him yak on "ayo - ayo ayo do dod dodo dodo as i say-o. Enviro luvvies, STING as you say "this is not my...." PC Sting of the dump SHUT YER PUS

  • @artlesclark lol @ shut yer pus hahahahahaha love it. hes a total cock isnt he

  • Good on you Paxo. You teach those hypocritical, self-absorbed idiotic twats a lesson. I mean multi-millionaire's recording artists. Who travel around the world in high-powerd private jets. Between their various mansion's. Are telling me a mere peasant. Not to put to much water in my kettle.

    FUCK YOU!!!!

I know whats really wrong with the world, rich people.

  • ooo for god sake man get a shave

  • Who else was waiting for Sting to say that he 'just chundered EVERYWAH'?

  • bottom line sting and paxman are celebs with big pay packets.paxman brings topics to the public and sting is doing the same in regards to the rain forest.

No one seems to care if celebs like beyonce, pink, jackson ect promote pepsi or other crap products.

He never claimed to be an economic expert.

so fair play to him..........however i must admit I never understood why he did that jaguar car advert back in the 90's.

  • Looking at the clothing and beard etc of Sting in the interview with Paxman, I think I've seen better dressed Tramps !!

  • Excellent, the BBC propaganda machine gets a sniff of something moral going down, so get their Murdoch wet dream Paxman on the case.

  • @DPBdandan139 Really well let me clarify.

Anyone with a basic understanding of Chomsky media theory can see through the BBC's attempts here to vilify thought that deviates from a prescribed agenda.

Whilst I'm the last person to endorse campaigns by celebrities, in this case all ting has said is that the voices of the natives have not been heard. And until they have, any moves to ransack the land are wrong and following in the morally corrupt spirit of every forced relocation of masses.

  • @u2atomicbomb The problem with what you're doing here is that you're acting as if there's some kind of sneaky thing going on. But this is just what Paxman does. He presents an actual intellectual alternative to his guest's beliefs, and presents that alternative forcefully. He does this to everyone. While all evidence of his personal beliefs indicates that he is a progressive, he has embraced a role which fosters actual intellectual debate. UK culture is the stronger for it.

  • @jono11 Paxman's journalistic style consists near wholly of rhetorical herd traps, attempting to miscontrued anything and eveything presented to him. Apparently this is a means to present an intellectual counterbalance to the arguments presented to him but in truth, he is conforming to the ideological demands of his mass media employers.

  • @jono11 Whatever his "personal beliefs" are is irrelevent; the neoliberal mechanisms at work have provided him with the semblance of press liberty but in truth he is not free to say anything that does not concur with established doctrine.

  • @u2atomicbomb I'm having some trouble taking your regurgitation of Chomsky seriously when your username proclaims your devotion to the U2 cult, one of the biggest shams in the history of political campaigning and a stain on progressive ideas.

Go find some original ideas, educate yourself about the complex nature of the world we live in, and for God's sake stop listening to U2. They haven't made a good record since the early 1980s.
