Were they going for some meta-joke? Breaking the 4th wall there? If not, it's a horribly cheesy product placement. Try to at least make it seem natural. "I'm on my lunch break," sounds more realistic than "I'm eating Subway's new chipotle bacon sandwich."
@particle409 It's a shout-out to the fans. To motivate NBC to keep the show alive, 'Chuck' fans poured out en masse to buy and support Subway, a sponsor of the show. Subway in turn became the primary sponsor and the writers put in obvious references and placements as a thank-you.
It is shameless because they did not try to hide it and expressed no shame in having to include it. I never even suggested it wasn't funny or that I didn't like how it was done.
