  • What kind of mounting system is that??

  • @MrDDaKidd Manfrotto Gimbal 393 Mount

  • But does it blend?

  • but can you use the rubber band trick with this?

  • cool, but didn't tell us anything about it

  • can you use the rig for video? Redbull is fat, rock on man! And don't worry bout the paint, redbull s gotta leave war wounds!

  • @itsyourphoto Yes - with a Canon 5D2 you can shoot full HD Video with the 600mm lens

  • Laser pointer servo motors "auto-align" feature is now on! xD

  • that lens is worth more than my house probably.

  • Dang your lens is really beat up, the lens needs more love.

  • @lexichu01l That's because it works for a living!

  • @cdodkin I can see that, I wonder if Canon makes so L lens touch up paint. Its a nice lens and Im just a bit of a neat freak with my equipment. :)

  • @lexichu01l I have some touch-up paint - but haven't got around to doing it yet!

  • This lens has a nice camera.

  • i have a d7

  • @FoSbaKiaS 7d I presume xD

  • What camera did you use to record this. The shutter roll is crazy. Nice setup though. Would take years to save that kind of coin.

  • @mouldypretzel Video camera was a Flip Mino HD - and the footage was them image stabilized in iMovie

  • @cdodkin looks more like warp stabilizer from AE cs5

  • @mouldypretzel or you can get financing :D

  • LOL, when your FullFrame DSLR is just the nub on the end and you have to balance the system in the middle. You've gone overboard.

  • picture sniper

  • Holy crap. You could about read people's license plates on the other side of the river with that lens. O_O

  • @kpw528 not really ^^

  • @faloc I was being sarcastic, lol.

  • oh i tought this was gonna be a real cannon

  • @crapbag1997 Canon* :)

  • Go CANON! Whoohoo! Fuck KODAK! Kodak is dead! CANON won!! Yeaaahhh!!! キヤノンは最高です! Hey!... what did you expect?!

  • Geeze that's over 10K right there.

  • shit that would take some awesome mirror pics for my facebook

  • id take a 5d mark 2. but the 1d mark 3 is better for sports and action photography. the 600 is such a specialized lens while nice I would rarely use it. I love my 100-400L. being a college kid I spent more money on getting good lens such as that and the 70-200. 2.8, and other lenses. I use a canon 60D and love it.

  • @SkylineG35tuner So you shoot wildlife?

  • @Guoenyi Yep, some - mostly sports though - Surfing, motorsports, air racing.

  • Wouldn't it be cool if they just had these big L lenses laying around in public but stationed so no one could take it and you could just hook your camera up? My dream xD

  • @CKSpoiler My dream too :)

  • am i an idiot for liking my dad's 5d mkII better than my 1d mkII?

  • @TgWnYdK Not at all - love my 5D2 as well :)

  • @cdodkin forgot to mention that it's a 1ds.

    does that make any difference?

  • @TgWnYdK i'd rather have a 5dmkii than a 1d

  • $9000 lens on a $4000 camera... phew!

  • this is a telescope o___o

  • I know that megapixel count isn't all that important, but the mkii doesn't even go into double digits. Good luck blowing anything up :P. Other than that, super sick setup!

  • @withoutrulesorbounds Yeah, anything beyond a billboard sized print and I'm screwed.. hey ho!

  • @cdodkin I guess it comes down to how much distortion/pixelation you can live with when it comes to print sizes over aprox12x18. Or how much editing you're willing to do. I'd assume RAW is a must?

  • @withoutrulesorbounds Even the 1D could produce double page spreads in SI - so your estimates of the max size the 1DII files can print to, are very conservative. Never shoot anything but RAW - you're basically handicapping your DSLR if you shoot JPEG.

  • @cdodkin No kidding. The only time I shoot JPEG is if I'm conserving space for dire situations. Is the MkII your only body?

  • @cdodkin Why?

"Never shoot anything but RAW - you're basically handicapping your DSLR if you shoot JPEG."

  • @tek5828 @tek5828 3 of good reasons to shoot RAW:

    1) RAW files have 2-3 stops more dynamic range than JPEG - so if you need to adjust the exposure of a shot after it's taken, the highlights and shadow detail will be better preserved in a RAW file.

  • @cdodkin 2) RAW files do not have any colour temperature, sharpening, colour adjustments etc applied to them - where as with JPEG, those changes to the image are set in the camera and cannot be undone. With a RAW file, you can change the white balance, set your own level of sharpening, adjust highlights, black levels etc - all before the image is created in your image editing software.

  • @cdodkin 3) JPEG files are compressed - they loose data to save file size. A lot like an MP# file is a compressed music file. If you want to have the full quality from a camera, you should use the RAW file - and you can always save lower quality or smaller sized JPEGs from that master RAW file.

  • @cdodkin So it gives you more leeway with exposure? Because I gather your not uploading the raw files to galleries etc/ hosting

  • @cdodkin Oh ok, so it gives you more leeway post with editing. But i gather you don't upload to the internet raw?

  • @tek5828 Correct - you work in something like Lightroom or Photoshop with the RAW file - you can then generate JPEGs for the web - use the higher quality files for print etc

  • @cdodkin Thanks for the tips :)

  • @withoutrulesorbounds I can print gorgeous 20x30 prints from my 8mp 30D.

  • RPG comes to mind !!!

  • The Camera ist old but the lens is nice. 600mm f/4 is usm L ?

  • @aiptekc100 Old! Well, it still does what it was designed to do. ;)

Lens is 'old' too - 600 f4L - Non IS - most sports are high shutter speed events, and IS isn't useful at high shutter speeds. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! LOL

  • That would suck to carry around.

  • @TheSnaunner Yes it does!

  • it looks like a cannon :P

  • canon 1d mark ?....

  • This is obviously a telescope :P

  • .... dear santa...

  • Nice telescope :P

  • Now you just need a huge pumpkin to shoot. That baby's gonna sprawl.

  • My husband just purchased a scope similar to yours....we need to be able to attach it to our tripod and wondered where you got your mount, or what it is called so we can search the web if you don't have a source...thanks....suzanne kilcullen sckkey@aol.com

  • One thing I've wondered: I've seen rigs like these before, but why is it better to attach the lens upwards instead of downwards? I'm asking, because most rigs I've seen, even homemade ones, have the lenses hanging from above.

  • @Wistbacka If you have it from the top, the pivot point will likely be stronger and can offer steadier support.

  • Ебать не встать! вот так линза

  • needs a bigger lense...

  • Whats the line between lenses and telescopes haha :)

  • Size matters

  • Looks like your going to snipe down the planes !

  • could you use this as a telescope? (astronomical)

  • @coolcarman555 For looking at the Moon maybe - it's effectively a x12 magnification, which is low by telescope standards

  • @cdodkin wait then why are those lenses so big?

  • @coolcarman555 They are 'fast' i.e they let in a lot more light than a telescope - they have very large lens elements. This lens has a maximum aperture of f4 - which is faster than the kit lenses on most DSLRs, for example.

  • @cdodkin oh so you can have a faster shutter speed?

  • @coolcarman555 Yes, and also a nice narrow depth of field - so the subject remains sharp, and the background is nicely out of focus.

  • @cdodkin good for taking pictures of airplanes ;)

  • @cdodkin Bokeh!

  • @Slightlyevil Indeed - and lots of it! :)

  • A .50 machinegun would be fare more effectif than a super telephoto lens too gun them down.

  • But will it blend?...

  • That 600 has some nice usage marks

  • @w4llp4p3r Yep - it's earned it's keep, that's for sure!

  • Sexy

  • That LCD on that camera is the size of a thumb.

  • Beast.

  • how much waz that lens??

  • @PenguinProductionsCO - well to buy it today, you're looking at $9,999.99 from Amazon.

  • @cdodkin -__- really!?

  • antiaircraft!

  • What Tripod Head is this???

  • @SkateSkiSurf Mantrotto 393 Gimbal Head - perfect for lenses over 300mm

  • @cdodkin thanks, i have been looking for a suitable tripod head that is suitable for a 600mm for to long!

  • @SkateSkiSurf No problem! Comes highly recommended - you could spend more on a SideKick, but I don't think you get a better platform for photography

  • ive seen a 700-1300mm lens, and its isnt fixed

  • @xXspartan125Xx the sharpness, color, contrast, and AF (if it had it) would be awful

  • i love how the camera is an attachment to the lens

  • That's some SERIOUS equipment.

  • i'll never understand these jerk-off videos. Here's a video of a piece of kit i hired with some jerk-off music thrown over the top.. another minute of my life gone.

  • @djedryan Keep stacking those shelves and one day you'll be able to buy your own camera too...

  • @cdodkin lol

  • @djedryan lol

  • Thats a very expensive machinegun.

  • Do you need insurance for such stuff?

  • @SeatBeltFTW You'd be wise to insure any camera equipment

  • @SeatBeltFTW If you money enough ,dont, just buy a new one.

  • @helthuismartin Well I'll do my best moneying...

  • Looks like a .50 machinegun too me.

  • Yes, yes, very impressive, but how about some test footage showing minimum and maximum magnification ? That's what I'm really linterested in.

  • @TheUnchainedMind It's not a zoom, it's a fixed 600mm, so the magnification is always the same, i.e. x12 compared to a standard 50mm lens.

  • i i have a 1000d with sigma 70-300 dg os and today i buyed a 50mm 1.8 ^^

  • what's the tripod?

  • @Airsoftguy1313 Manfrotto 3021Pro with Manfrotto 393 Gimbal head

The 3021 is no longer a current model - but has been an excellent tripod.

Wouldn't want anything less substantial as the head+camera+600 weighs a lot!

  • @Airsoftguy1313 Itz a Gitzo Studex from France

  • Dear santa

  • for christmas

  • @MsBmx25 Would be nice - expensive though

  • @cdodkin hahah yep

  • @cdodkin ohh yeah

  • what's song is this ...?

  • @reagoli8895 Sounds from the Ground - Elemental, from the album Bright White Light

  • @cdodkin thx ~~~~^_^

  • And what about the photos taken with this rig? Please post a link.

  • how much did it cost

  • @amirborhani The Gimbal head is around $180 - you then need to add the cost of a sliding mounting plate for your lens.

  • yeah i also use a manfrotto gimbal head, with both "U"s underneath is more stable.

  • You might try mounting the lens with both u brackets underneath. I've found much more balanced that way

  • @Photosbykev1 Thx - I'll give it a try.

The lens is however really well balanced with the bracket as shown in the video - almost weightless in fact :)

Have you ever tried it that way?
