I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (January 22, Epiphany 3), I played this as the opening hymn. However, it was to the tune, MUNICH, from Neuvermehrtes Gesangbuch, Meiningen, 1693. It is #810 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.
I like many others, also agree this is a beautiful new upbeat version.. I also remember this at school, and only being played by piano. Many thanks for this..
In days of yore (1980-ish) when I was still an 'innocent choirboy'* this hymn was (and still is) a favourite.
The old tune is great for more solemn occasions but this was the 'new tune' that we all loved - it had a bit of get up & go about it, and, like others have said here - we 'belted it out' at full whack too...
My favourite hymn at school and I chose this piece for my GCSE perfomance exam - unfortunately, it's the only tune I can remember how to play now! Thanks so much for posting it.
As a member of one of the Salvation Army Corps in Devon, may I express my thanks for recording this lovely modern version of the classic hymn Well done !
@Buckfast9 I have to confess, I did not record this. It is in fact the "bands of the Salvation Army" The only thing I did was edit it and make it longer as it was only about 1min 10sec long.
we use both tunes at our church but this is by far the best! especially when i look to the ladies section of the choir and see them 'bopping' up and down to the tune
I'm not a very religious person, and even when I was I was more of the 'happy clappy' variety. However this is one of my two most favourite hymns. That arrangement isn't played often enough in my opinion !
Thank you for this lovely video. I was feeling a bit down because of all the gloomy news but this video has really uplifted me. I've sung along to it and have now been filled me with new hope and courage.
Wow what an answer to prayer. When you say to God "Lord I don't even know how to pray" He gives you the words to use, and these words could not be more fitting. The music is the right tune and the scenes - well they blow me away. When God answers prayer he does it so completely. I'm amazed. Thanks for putting it on your tube.
God always answers our prayers, doesn't always give us what we ask for, but always answers, when he does give us. Like you say WOW! I'm really glad you can take something from this.
Hi Arthur, I've searched for a vocal track for this one without success. However, you could always visit St John's church in Wakefield on 13th July and hear it sung live. Best wishes Ken.
I was introduced to this hymn recently by my girlfriend, the first ever hymn she learned and still remains 1 of her favourites. I really enjoy it and regularly listen to it on youtube. I was thrilled to bits today when I browsed around the my monitor and noticed that citrail produced this video. Citrail recently uploaded a brilliant version of King of Kings Majesty, now this lovely hymn. Thank you citrail. Any chance of a vocal version of this hymn.
Before today's singing I hadn't heard it in years (even though this is a different version). Good hymn,
