Due to the decline in profits for the past few years 4 kids is finally going under ( after brutally massacring so many good anime titles for how many umteen years). They will be auctioning off their distribution rites of all their current shows to the highest bidders ( how much yall wanna bet
Cartoon network will be raking up those titles ) but there are talks still that there may be a bit of hope in them getting out of their slump. We'll keep abreast to whats going on there.

I can answer that. They're using Sony Vegas Pro to remove the Japanese kanji and replace it with English text. They are using Audacity and Adobe Premiere Pro + Soundbooth to remove the Japanese voices and keep the Japanese music and sounds intact. If they are too deeply mixed together, they likely find a sound folder or open-source download that features an identical or similar sound effect. I might be somewhat wrong on this, but if anyone can correct me on my errors, please do.
I just clicked on the link to audition but considering this was posted a month ago all the potions have been filled. Is that the case and I'm reading it wrong? If they are filled can i do background voices like citazins in the battle city or an audince viewing a duel?
to tell the truth before I found about project YGO I was planing on eventually making a fandub of yugioh season 0, or yugioh the shadow relm as it's also called, this could be a good chance to try some profesional voice acting, I think I'll audition for a couple people
I wouldn't mind trying for Haga but would like to try for a few random people first. As for your haga I'd see him as an extreme intellectual who's voice is slightly deeper than the 4kids dub because that is deeper than the original. Also the link is down so when it get up I'll read all the rules and stuff. Sorry I know nothing about the mixing. Also what is the best way to practice the voice overs?
eh, seem like a lot of work just to pretend to be professionals. Its not like you could make any improvements to original content without reworking said content from the ground up.

1. You should have stuck to the 4kids attack names, monster and charachter names, they are much easyer to understand by english speakers and make more sence

Depends. Personally, I think it was a great idea for PYGO to keep the original names/attacks/etc. It keeps with trying to retain what the show was like in Japanese. 4kids, miserable as their results were, changed the names so that they would be more 'relatable' to an English speaking audience. The nice thing is, now you have two options! You can watch a 'direct content' dub or a English friendly dub : ).
For words or names taken from a different language, you emphasize the syllables based on Japanese pronunciation, despite what the oringinal pronunciation (in this case, Egyptian or Enlgish) sounds like.

Just wanted to say that I'm currently working on a voice for either Yami Yuugi or Yami Malik and if I'm happy with the voice I'll put it in as my audition.
Actually, there is a rather large problem with your episode list: Some of those episodes you marked as filler actually mean something to the plot. I know you said it's subject to change, but if you skip from episode 2 to 6, you skip from the battle against Pegasus all the way to Jonouchi's duel against Mai, therefore skipping the entire boat scene and Yuugi's duel against Insector Haga. No offense intended, but you need to think harder as to what you consider "Filler".
It's not that the episodes are "filler," that was a bad word choice. It's that some episodes have larger importance to the overarching plot than others. For example, the Boat episode and Yuugi's duel with Haga barely advance the plot, except that they arrive on DK and Yuugi gets some star chips. And they're not as interesting. Since we have limited resources, we're dubbing the best of the episodes. Our team unanimously decided that skipping to Mai was a good idea.
@ShiroKaisen: Ah, I see. I apologize for not taking into mind the very limited resources you guys are working with. But just out of curiosity, at some point, are you going to dub the episodes that weren't listed? (I mean some time after you do the episodes that WERE listed.)
Well, i guess i could help with editing, but the normal video editor i use (Editstudio) is a trial version, and produces a watermark upon exporting. :s
gosh, I remember it was so long ago when I auditioned for this as Sataki and Takaido, convinced that I had the part because only one other person had auditioned for the role. In a way, it's nice to recieve closure for that since my part was never officially cast.

I don't care if I got a part. I just want to know how I did in the audition with my voice. I'm still learning about the different ways to use it. Any kind of criticism is helpful. But I really don't care if I get a part, though I would be estatic if I did make the cut.
I think that was the whole point of casting him as Grandpa - someone that's not really too important, yet will be present in the series in a notable role. And besides, if LK takes too many voices, there wouldn't really be much room for new members or the like, right?
Besides leaving roles open to other people, he ALSO has YGOTAS to take care of. He's busy enough as is and him playing more than one role for our 20+ minute productions would be ridiculously strenuous on him.
Why do you want ONLY a female to voice Bakura? Sure, yes, he's voiced by one in Japanese, but that chick is great at capturing the dementedness of him...but, that's like assuming that a male can't do the same. I don't know, you shouldn't follow "he's female in japanese, so ours has to be" kind of thing. I think you should let men or women audition for it and choose the best one for quality, not just gender.
It's not that we only want a female to voice Bakura, but we need a certain feminine, high voice for him. We don't want British 4kids Bakura. We had auditions open for male and females before, but we weren't hearing anything close to what we wanted from the boys, simply because a boy's voice can't have that same quality. We want the "best one for quality," and that quality can only be found in a female voice.
Okay, I have a few different versions of some characters. Would you prefer that I only send in one version of every line? Or could I send different versions of each line?
If I had any form of talent, I'd help you, but... well, that's where I kind of hit a brick wall. I'm pretty much talentless.
Still, it's about time someone did a decent fandub of this show. The show would have been a major hit if it had been aired as it should have been, instead of censored and mutilated.

Preferrably, you would voice both Malik and his dark personality, but we possibly could find two people who do one voice better than the other person, and just split the role--like we did with Yuugi and Atemu.
But there will certainly not be any stupid voice filter on Yami no Malik. 4kids turned a sadistic awesome villain into a cyborg with that voice.
If only I could do something to help or if I had money to donate. I would like to audition but I don't have a good, expensive microphone. *sighs* Oh well, I'll still try out even though I have no chance of getting a part. ^^;
hm, maybe I should audition for malik/yami malik... I can do different voices pretty well, and since malik's voice is similar to mine (plus he's my favorite character :D), I might be able to do it pretty well.

Although your first episode was good, I need to get a few things off my chest. First is I find it funny that you changed the characters names to japanese but just used the english translations for the cards names. Second, I disagree with going out of order myself because you put so much into making this look profesional and then kind of blow it. I also feel that any money issues should be dealt with privately among your staff. No one is making you do this, you're doing this cause you love show.
For the card names, "Blue Eyes White Dragon" is said IN the Japanese Dub. As for other cards, like "Darkness Generator" for example, is called "Yami no Generator" in the Japanese Dub, which is half English half Japanese. No matter what card you try to debunk as being the English translations, almost all of them have English in them already! ENGLISH is necessary for the names because our audience DOES NOT SPEAK JAPANESE. We are absolutely not going to force our audience to look up translations.
As for the CHARACTER names. You wouldn't change your name to something totally different just because you're speaking a different language. If your name is Bob when you're speaking English, your name is still BOB whether you're speaking Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, French, or Latin.
As for skipping episodes, we've already explained ourselves.
Concerning the money issues, we aren't doing this to make a profit. You said it yourself, "You're doing this [be]cause you love [the] show." We're LOSING money doing this. The point of donating is to allow our fans to help shoulder at least a small amount of that burden. I have personally sunk several hundred dollars into this project and I'd be extremely grateful to even get close to a tenth of that back in donations.
To kind of comment on what everyone is complaining about the out of order thing. I think it's a good idea to go back and forth just cause it'd be nice to see something a little ahead.
I'm not too excited about cutting out "unnecessary" episodes, cause I really love them all (except for flashback eps lol) but as long as I get my fav Atem eps, I'll be happy for sure XD

Support, especially on a site like youtube, equals views, ratings, and subscriptions, not a magic studio or millions of dollars. There's absolutely no reason to lash out at fans for withdrawing their support. I don't agree with your decision to skip around within the series, even though it's for practical reasons. If I'm going to watch a fandub, I'd like to watch one with the means and intent to do it professionally and in it's entirety. So sorry, but I'm officially "withdrawing my support."
I believe that 4Kids wanted to focus more on children audience like 13 and younger. As of why they would focus on that particular audience is clearly unknown. Maybe they thought Yu-Gi-Oh should be geared to kids but the actual card game isn't for kids to understand. So, the anime should have been for teens. I praise you guys for bringing a well formed english dub from the japanese translations. I can see many well episodes being made and expect the voice acting to continue doing well.
As for the call to help, i'm not good enough for any of those positions unfortunately. I'll just stick to being your friendly neighbourhood fanboy critic

I cannot support the decision to not only dub out of order, but to cut "unnecessary" episodes. I thought this project was about giving the fans a faithful dub without all the edits and 4Kids f*ckery, but at least 4Kids dubbed everything and in order. I was initially extremely excited about this project, but I can no longer support it. I think you should hand over the task of redubbing YGO to someone who can do it properly.
It's not that we're "cutting" unnecessary episodes, it just that we physically are unable to dub a 224 episode series in an amount of time less than about thirty years. We don't have a studio, we don't live together, we're doing this on our own time. This way, we're gonna get to the episodes that had the most 4kids fuckery and edits and provide the fans with a taste of "what could have been." It's just impossible to do it all. Sorry if this doesn't sit with you, but it's the only way.
I'm a pretty good audio mixer (I have audacity) but I think thats it. I know I can't do the video editing required for this, and I've never really tried voiceacting. Anyways, I'll see what I can do :)
Actually, I wouldn't mind waiting a long time to get to something like Battle City. Great first episode, it was much more faithful than the 4Kids dub. But when I'm watching an Anime I like to watch it in order. It's not anything against you but I can't follow this project anymore, instead I'll continue to wait until someone else comes along and releases uncut episodes subbed or dubbed faithfully and uncut. I was thinking about helping you, I really had faith in this project. Thanks anyway :(
I'm not, releasing all of those episodes was aimed at a company anyway. I think it's great that they are doing this for Yu-Gi-Oh!. It's just my opinion about what they are doing. I completely respect what they are doing and how they are doing it. I wish them good luck and hope everything goes well. I just think that if I'm going to watch an Anime I want it consistent and in order.
Look, I'm sorry...we originally were going to release all the episodes in order, but our experience with Episode 01 has proven that without a studio and without us all living in the same town, it just can't be done. By the time we got done, I (the voice of Yuugi) would be about thirty and definitely unable to voice him any longer. Everyone would have moved on to their jobs and lives. This way, we can at least give a good smattering of awesome episodes and show what could have been.
You don't have to be sorry, you're dub is amazing and I completely understand. You see people complain without constructive criticism all the time online. So when I find I don't like something 100% then rather than making a comment such as "you suck" I try to say exactly what I think. You don't suck by the way, that was a horrible example. Good luck with the dub, you have the chance of being a real voice actor and I would certainly travel to Anime conventions to get your autograph :)

Malik is an actual Arabic name, I think it means "king" or something like that, Marik isn't a real name in any culture, so it makes more sense to keep his original name.

Maxxy, they didn't decide to change the voice. The voice actor, asw, decided to leave for unexplained reasons. It was in the video. And as a note: it's Haga. Also, give it your best!
i'm learning video editing. if you'd caught me a year later i could have helped, but sadly i currently have no ability to speak of. i would offer to do a voice. i'd probably be good as yami, but i'm sure you could find someone better.
Unfortunately the Paradox Bros are not among the episodes we've chosen to dub so I apologize for the unfortunate casting. From here on, we're casting as we need the characters rather than casting everybody in the series. Our VA for Rebecca Hawkins will unfortunately not be used for that character.
You may audition again for any of the remaining characters or any characters that we'll announce later on.

That's one way to put it, about the whole ten years thing. Let's hope one day, 4kids...or some OTHER dubbing organization can gives us what we want unless it is already out and not known to my current knowledge due to the fact that I have not been to a mall or store in forever: Yu-gi-oh! Depends. Personally, I think it was a great idea for PYGO to keep the original names/attacks/etc. It keeps with trying to retain what the show was like in Japanese. 4kids, miserable as their results were, changed the names so that they would be more 'relatable' to an English speaking audience. The nice thing is, now you have two options! You can watch a 'direct content' dub or a English friendly dub : ).

For words or names taken from a different language, you emphasize the syllables based on Japanese pronunciation, despite what the oringinal pronunciation (in this case, Egyptian or Enlgish) sounds like.

Actually, there is a rather large problem with your episode list: Some of those episodes you marked as filler actually mean something to the plot. I know you said it's subject to change, but if you skip from episode 2 to 6, you skip from the battle against Pegasus all the way to Jonouchi's duel against Mai, therefore skipping the entire boat scene and Yuugi's duel against Insector Haga. No offense intended, but you need to think harder as to what you consider "Filler".

It's not that the episodes are "filler," that was a bad word choice. It's that some episodes have larger importance to the overarching plot than others. For example, the Boat episode and Yuugi's duel with Haga barely advance the plot, except that they arrive on DK and Yuugi gets some star chips. And they're not as interesting. Since we have limited resources, we're dubbing the best of the episodes. Our team unanimously decided that skipping to Mai was a good idea.

gosh, I remember it was so long ago when I auditioned for this as Sataki and Takaido, convinced that I had the part because only one other person had auditioned for the role. In a way, it's nice to recieve closure for that since my part was never officially cast.

I think that was the whole point of casting him as Grandpa - someone that's not really too important, yet will be present in the series in a notable role. And besides, if LK takes too many voices, there wouldn't really be much room for new members or the like, right?

I have a question, guys.
Why do you want ONLY a female to voice Bakura? Sure, yes, he's voiced by one in Japanese, but that chick is great at capturing the dementedness of him...but, that's like assuming that a male can't do the same. I don't know, you shouldn't follow "he's female in japanese, so ours has to be" kind of thing. I think you should let men or women audition for it and choose the best one for quality, not just gender.

It's not that we only want a female to voice Bakura, but we need a certain feminine, high voice for him. We don't want British 4kids Bakura. We had auditions open for male and females before, but we weren't hearing anything close to what we wanted from the boys, simply because a boy's voice can't have that same quality. We want the "best one for quality," and that quality can only be found in a female voice.

Preferrably, you would voice both Malik and his dark personality, but we possibly could find two people who do one voice better than the other person, and just split the role--like we did with Yuugi and Atemu.
But there will certainly not be any stupid voice filter on Yami no Malik. 4kids turned a sadistic awesome villain into a cyborg with that voice.

Although your first episode was good, I need to get a few things off my chest. First is I find it funny that you changed the characters names to japanese but just used the english translations for the cards names. Second, I disagree with going out of order myself because you put so much into making this look profesional and then kind of blow it. I also feel that any money issues should be dealt with privately among your staff. No one is making you do this, you're doing this cause you love show.

For the card names, "Blue Eyes White Dragon" is said IN the Japanese Dub. As for other cards, like "Darkness Generator" for example, is called "Yami no Generator" in the Japanese Dub, which is half English half Japanese. No matter what card you try to debunk as being the English translations, almost all of them have English in them already! ENGLISH is necessary for the names because our audience DOES NOT SPEAK JAPANESE. We are absolutely not going to force our audience to look up translations.

As for the CHARACTER names. You wouldn't change your name to something totally different just because you're speaking a different language. If your name is Bob when you're speaking English, your name is still BOB whether you're speaking Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, French, or Latin.

As for skipping episodes, we've already explained ourselves.
Concerning the money issues, we aren't doing this to make a profit. You said it yourself, "You're doing this [be]cause you love [the] show." We're LOSING money doing this. The point of donating is to allow our fans to help shoulder at least a small amount of that burden. I have personally sunk several hundred dollars into this project and I'd be extremely grateful to even get close to a tenth of that back in donations.

To kind of comment on what everyone is complaining about the out of order thing. I think it's a good idea to go back and forth just cause it'd be nice to see something a little ahead.
I'm not too excited about cutting out "unnecessary" episodes, cause I really love them all (except for flashback eps lol) but as long as I get my fav Atem eps, I'll be happy for sure XD

Support, especially on a site like youtube, equals views, ratings, and subscriptions, not a magic studio or millions of dollars. There's absolutely no reason to lash out at fans for withdrawing their support. I don't agree with your decision to skip around within the series, even though it's for practical reasons. If I'm going to watch a fandub, I'd like to watch one with the means and intent to do it professionally and in it's entirety. So sorry, but I'm officially "withdrawing my support."

I believe that 4Kids wanted to focus more on children audience like 13 and younger. As of why they would focus on that particular audience is clearly unknown. Maybe they thought Yu-Gi-Oh should be geared to kids but the actual card game isn't for kids to understand. So, the anime should have been for teens. I praise you guys for bringing a well formed english dub from the japanese translations. I can see many well episodes being made and expect the voice acting to continue doing well.

I cannot support the decision to not only dub out of order, but to cut "unnecessary" episodes. I thought this project was about giving the fans a faithful dub without all the edits and 4Kids f*ckery, but at least 4Kids dubbed everything and in order. I was initially extremely excited about this project, but I can no longer support it. I think you should hand over the task of redubbing YGO to someone who can do it properly.

It's not that we're "cutting" unnecessary episodes, it just that we physically are unable to dub a 224 episode series in an amount of time less than about thirty years. We don't have a studio, we don't live together, we're doing this on our own time. This way, we're gonna get to the episodes that had the most 4kids fuckery and edits and provide the fans with a taste of "what could have been." It's just impossible to do it all. Sorry if this doesn't sit with you, but it's the only way.

Actually, I wouldn't mind waiting a long time to get to something like Battle City. Great first episode, it was much more faithful than the 4Kids dub. But when I'm watching an Anime I like to watch it in order. It's not anything against you but I can't follow this project anymore, instead I'll continue to wait until someone else comes along and releases uncut episodes subbed or dubbed faithfully and uncut. I was thinking about helping you, I really had faith in this project. Thanks anyway :(

I'm not, releasing all of those episodes was aimed at a company anyway. I think it's great that they are doing this for Yu-Gi-Oh!. It's just my opinion about what they are doing. I completely respect what they are doing and how they are doing it. I wish them good luck and hope everything goes well. I just think that if I'm going to watch an Anime I want it consistent and in order.

Look, I'm sorry...we originally were going to release all the episodes in order, but our experience with Episode 01 has proven that without a studio and without us all living in the same town, it just can't be done. By the time we got done, I (the voice of Yuugi) would be about thirty and definitely unable to voice him any longer. Everyone would have moved on to their jobs and lives. This way, we can at least give a good smattering of awesome episodes and show what could have been.

You don't have to be sorry, you're dub is amazing and I completely understand. You see people complain without constructive criticism all the time online. So when I find I don't like something 100% then rather than making a comment such as "you suck" I try to say exactly what I think. You don't suck by the way, that was a horrible example. Good luck with the dub, you have the chance of being a real voice actor and I would certainly travel to Anime conventions to get your autograph :)

Malik is an actual Arabic name, I think it means "king" or something like that, Marik isn't a real name in any culture, so it makes more sense to keep his original name.

Question, what happens to all of our videos and auditions from before? I think I was supposed to be the Paradox Bros., does that still count?

Unfortunately the Paradox Bros are not among the episodes we've chosen to dub so I apologize for the unfortunate casting. From here on, we're casting as we need the characters rather than casting everybody in the series. Our VA for Rebecca Hawkins will unfortunately not be used for that character.
You may audition again for any of the remaining characters or any characters that we'll announce later on.

I'm not good enough at any of that stuff to help, and I have next to no spare money. But I hope you continue the series, and do just as good as job as you did on episode 1. I KNOW you can pull it off! Good luck. :D

That's one way to put it, about the whole ten years thing. Let's hope one day, 4kids...or some OTHER dubbing organization can gives us what we want unless it is already out and not known to my current knowledge due to the fact that I have not been to a mall or store in forever: Yu-gi-oh! Uncensored and Uncut!
