From what I understood the whole dimensional shift was designed to represent the old Donatist of North Africa and their "temporal lobe difficulties" along with their civil war.Not to mention the whole meta-sodomy thing and the eye gouging....some things don't change.

There was a cult of Vandals who ended up seizing control of North Africa afterwards,their response to all this nonsense was Skeiren- Scarring.

i saw this when i was 5 and got scared shitless. then i thought they should have a game like this and then 8 years later the game dead space comes out and for some reason i wasn't scared. to bad this was paul anderson's only good movie. RE sucked even though its fun, AVP wow, death race okay.

i don't know why IMDB and rotten tomatoes have given this movie such a low rating. I mean, its not great, but it is a pretty good movie and I believe that its the first one of its kind. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that this movie was the first to put together the idea of space ship, black holes and hell and turn it into one hell of a sci-fi horror.

@toseeornot2see I don't understand either. In its genre, its one of the best. The storyline is great, the acting was ok and it was really creapy. I've always loved the film.

But ok, I'm a sucker for scifi-horror.

@RayDH It may have gotten a low rating, but they don't speak for everyone who saw it. That said, the movie itself has gained a cult following and is highly popular with sci-fi fans and whatnot.

I was in and out of the room getting snacks for people, playing games on a computer, and only half took notice, but what I saw I liked, so I asked my dad to rent it... then I saw the entire thing for the first time... yeah, I didn't sleep without all the lights on for about a month! LOL
