what was the wait like? i go to meps in a couple weeks, but can't find an up to date CREO list. Guess I'll find out once i talk to the career officer heh.
Chances are you will go FMF unless you get offered a C school right out of corps school...some corpsman do go to ships, but its rare, of all of the HMC's at my command, maybe one was on a ship as a doc...as far as getting stuck on a boat with your devil dogs, you get the best of both worlds...shorter Marine lines in chow, shorter Navy line in the geedunk, you get to go in both (if that particular ship splits them up like that)
no I was ship's company but we have FMF corpmans that comes on board when we 're on west pac, and yes FMF wear Marines cammies, you get treated like one...
You'll more then likely go green side with HM right now they are short FMF corpsman. If you're with the Marines there deployments run 7months on average could be longer could be shorter. I know at the time hubs went through bc you didn't have a choice they just assigned it to him. Just because you join the Navy doesn't mean you'll ever see anytime on a boat.
They need just as many corosman in the Navy as they do the Marines. However if you are a healthy physically fit male your chances of going fmf (marine) is greater.
i want to be a HM with the navy but I live in tulsa so i'm nowhere near the ocean. does anyone know how long the deployments are for HM? because i know it varies with MOS or whatever. I just don't want them to say "you will only be deployed 6 months" or something but it turns out you have to spend a year away at the west coast and thats like not real deployment... technically but still away from home.
They need to bring the old advertising back. You know the 1942 posters and crap. Those have caught my attention more than these "OMG SPORTSSSSS MOTORCYCLESSSSSSS" ads.
yeah im sure ive already signed my contract last thursday im in for 5 years an 4 years of reserve my shippin date is 19 april 2010 an my a school is in chicago not sure wehter or not if i want to go blue or green but alot of people said i should go green to get my feet wet an im goin in as a E-3
well im not exactly sure but i talked to my recruiter an looked stuff up online an talked to some actuall corpsman who are currently serviving rite now an no u dnt have to be with the marines but it all depends on what the navy needs in wat they say u can do as your choices but mostly for corpsman u kinda get wat u ask for as your NEC but im no expert u should talk to actual corpsman who are servin a recruiter will tell u some facts but not all of the facts
Does anyone know the extensive amount of physical training Corpsman goes through...Same as rest of the Navy of what? Because I'm interested in either Navy SeaBee's or Navy Corpsman but I have mild asthma (which is the only reason I'm not enlisting in the Marines I wouldn't be able to hide it with the ridiculous PT) I'm certain I can hide the mild asthma in the Navy though...Anyone?
I ask because it seems Corpsman are always with Marines so I just wasn't sure...Like I said I either want to be a SeaBee Equipment Operator or a Corpsman and work directly with Marines on the front line.
yea seaman recruit nguyen..i leave in about 8 days for basic goin in as HM..corpsman that are with the marines all volunteered for it..for the navy being a HM going with the marines is optional, or just be in a hospital like psycho7389 said..hope this helps
hi there! can't really say much about the PT for the corpsman position, but I am soon to be joining the navy and have to say they are kind of strict about asthma too. if you had/have asthma since your thirteenth bday, you will need to provide records from your doctor to prove you don't have it anymore, and more than likely like me--you will have to get a PFT/more exclusively a methacholine challenge test. have your recruit set this up b4 hand, otherwise ur probably doomed getting it done @ MEPS.
HM shipping out 20091811 it is about the same if i am correct, I myself had thought of going in as a CB but when all the positions closed up, i took HM because it looks like an interesting field. Alot of jobs are closing up fast and if i were you, i would study for the ASVAB, PT and talk to a recruiter. youll have to PT in the navy no matter what, and both choices are great, just go with what you think you will enjoy in life.
Hey, guys - HM3 here - probably best not to call yourselves HM just yet - I am sure you all will do great, but calling yourself that prematurely can be a jinx.
The Recruiters need to man rates, that no one would normally volunteer for, so they'll say something to the effect of "The school is closed, but you can cross-rate after 18 months" liars. No one wants to join the Navy to do Retail sales and laundry (Ship's Serviceman).
Gee, I got through school by signing on to murder and genocide poor people to make rich people richer. They said it was a war on terror, but we all knew the truth. Besides, they'll say anything to sell guns, smuggle dope, or steal the sovereign wealth of undeveloped countries. Now, I can proudly claim to be an ass fucked whore of the reptile Babylon. Who really cares if the $400-600 billion annual Pentagon budget would better serve the people by providing health care.
I also leave for Bootcamp in July...31st actually..I will be going FMF, so I can't wait...I'm proud to say, that I will soon give back to the people I love.
Yeah, Keith's done the Navy's commercials for several years now. He's got one of those authoritative voices where he could tell you the sky is green and you'd think, "Hmm. Maybe he's right. Maybe I'm seeing it wrong..." Loved his narration of Ken Burns' 'The War'.
I was an HM in the reserves for 6 in the '80s. A lot depends on the duty station you have and the job you're assigned. Occasionally you end up pushing papers or treating dependents' sniffles and that's one facet. But there are some billets supporting high-risk missions with lots of injuries where you're the only medical person around and people count on you. It can be fulfilling when a machinist's mate or a marine tells you he owes you his arm or leg - or his life.
