Really? Russia won most of the Men Hockey World Tournaments and Canada got their 27 medals in Junior games only because they always host it. They play good only when they are in Canada or the US. They have their financial interests there and judges often too kind judging canada's team. So since the first USSR participation in world tournaments Canada stepped down on the second place.
Plus 5 times in the USA which gives us 13 times of 35. It is a lot! Compare this to 3 times in Russia.
Home ice is a definite plus for any team. You won 7 medals out of 11 on home ice! So it is you who are sadly ignorant. Try reading more carefully and paying a bit more attention to theme you discuss.

When the tournament was in Ottawa, games sold out and ticket packages went for $1000 - $3000 CAD. Whereas it being hosted anywhere in Europe results in it being dirt cheap. When my sister went to Czech Republic in 2008 for the tournament, she was able to get her ticket package (all Canada games + medal round) for about $90 CAD.
