Liam Neeson would be the perfect Roland because of the melancholic way he acts and looks. I can imagine him perfectly standing in front of the tower with tears in his eyes.
The series was sooooooooo boring. It just drag on and on. Small talk about nothing is what it should be called. Except for a few patches of excitement the books were dull. Like a lot of his junk currently.
Started reading this series when I was about 14 yrs old or so. And finished it when I was in my late 30's..... So cool to have a story span across the time of my life like that. I'm so thankful for SK. I love all his books and feel a deep connection to him.
Especially DT books 6 and 7 seemed to have a connection to my father, who passed away when I was in my early 20's. I miss him soooo much.
And then when I counted the letters in my full name and it came up to 19 I was like whoa! Spooky.
This was a great story!! (I read book 4 first, which hooked me). But!! I wish Steven King would'nt have written himself into the story...I skipped those 2 chapters. I guess sometimes Genuis' has ego's too.
you fucker, i hate you for doing this to me, the pictures combined with that sound and having read the book series....emotional rollercoster.
the story ...the characters....im jealous of them, at the same time i pity them, at the same time i despise my own reality, makes me doubt my own reality.
As I watch this my life is a stressed-out mess-- whose isn't? The images are incredible and the music is better, but my memories of the story and how I relate them to my life put my spirit (or whatever you'd call it) in a another place. I don't think of it as an escape, because when I return to reality, I feel poised and determined to fulfill my own quest.
I thank you a little less than I thank King himself for giving me story to truly live by.
@AughustoCV well why not this is only the 3rd and 4th book at this point i'm pretty sure you still have three beams in existence remember after the beam quake i'm pretty sure that left 2 beams standing and it probably follows the beam of the turtle which never falls remember if all the beams were gone there would be nothing to hold the dark tower up with at all
I am currently at 4th book, I have been stuck at it shamefully long time due to that roland is having this pain-in-the-ass long flashback bit, is whole 4th book all just that? just say no or yes I dont want to get spoiled.
Also, does stephen king explain anything in the end? or does this whole dark tower stay shrouded in mystery? yes if he does no if he dont explain, no details please, I dont want to get spoiled.
@thedon420333 I just dont like long flashbacks... it feels like story isnt developing, were not getting closer to dark tower at all, instead were looking back at the time when we were farther away from it, it feels like we´re still giving a ground for the story even if it is fourth book already... and I´ve read about 200-300 pages of it.
@EsaTuomasHavu I don't know how you're a reader; you sound like you have no patience. Just read it, it gets way better. King had to delve into Roland's past eventually.
@thedon420333 patience? reader? so you only can be called a reader and you only can be called to have patience if you can read 200-300 pages without nothing happening that might interrest you, and still be excited about the book and continue reading it, without moments of boredom and thoughts "I have better things to read and better things to do"? ... right then I guess I am not reader and I dont have patience, not atleast by your standard >:I by my standard it only means I am not bookworm.
@EsaTuomasHavu "I have better things to read and better things to do"? - I don't know why you quoted that... but ok. You realize you're reading a series that is over 3,000 pages long, right? Go read harry potter; this book is obviously out of your league.
@thedon420333 this is starting to piss me off. Whats matter with you? why you try to mock me, judge me as a reader? because I dont like 4th book that you so love and I dont happen to like long flashbacks? people have different tastes even for books, realize it and grow up! I loved 3 first books, I love idea and I can only imagine how king is going to continue story in next books, so I will read it but I have high school final exams coming up in next month so I dont have time for dark tower!
Wonderful video. Could watch it again and again. I have written and recorded a song for Roland. Its called "the Gunslinger" and you can listen to it on my channel!
This makes me dream, makes me dream so much about the dark tower series..the music combined with the imaginery hypnotizes me into King's worlds of fiction who seem to be so strangely non fictional at the same time.
The book is so so sad, and so much better than what i have at the same time it makes me bitter and melancholic
who does not want to be like roland,an imperfect man, a man with almost no imagination who takes fate as it comes and deals with it like a man who stayed true does
@martygwest - You are obviously a deeply disturbed and slightly retarded individual if you are unable to appreciate the magnificence of these works of wonder. King has created the ultimate fantasy series with millions of devoted readers who will not be swayed by an iliterate ass-hat such as yourself! Your bad karma will come back to you. Remember, Ka is a wheel.
Dark Tower is the worst fantasy series ever written. King stole the idea for the series from another author's poem. The characters are so unlikeable. The series itself was too long & boring to hold my interest. King always sounds like a broken record with his endless repetition and his language is so atrocious. He is no Tolkien. Only in the US would something like that sell. Americans wouldn't know good literature if it slapped them in the face.
@martygwest or you could just say YOU dont like it, I love the the story, the characters and even with my adhd the story kept me on edge throughout the whole series, and FYI stephen king is alot more talanted than tolkien ever was, beeing able to write some of the best stories the world have seen so far in many genres, "shawshank" and "stand by me" to mention a few, this is ofc just MY oppinion
@martygwest If you think that the characters are unlikeable, you didn't read enought, the characters of the book aren't perfect at all and is that that make the book so interesting at some parts...
@martygwest I Live in sweden and this is maybe even better than tolkien! One of the best book series ever! You son of a bitch! How much did you even read before going back to books like Twilight!?
@martygwest King didn't steal nothing. Did you even read the poem?! It has simply inspired him, it isn't even near the dark tower series in style, grammar or plot. Browning got his idea to the poem from something else that he once read as well, it's the way it works with writing. Tolkien got inspired from a lot of old folklore from the scandinavian countries, C.S Lewis used the bible and so on. Nobody is original, we are all human. Even Jesus borrowed a lot from other writings in his sayings.
@martygwest Bradbury Lovecraft Agatha Christie D.F. Wallace Crichton J. Austen Eric Frank Russell Dan Abnett (pretty good if you like the genre) J.K. Rowling N. Gaiman Margaret Weis with Tracy Hickman P. Straub L. Frank Baum Thats just looking at some of the tops of my stacks. ^^ Still though. Oh, and I gots my second ed. LOTR and my paper back Hobbit (You know, John was actually a pretty dark guy if you look into some of his villains.) And about 15 S. Kings. What's your poison?
@martygwest Stephen King is the Edgar Allan Poe of our time...do you even know what you are talking about? The Dark Tower Series were his most popular books. He has amazing literature and his language is not atrocious. You wouldn't know good literature if it slapped "you" in the face. The reason why you probably posted that comment was because you probably have only read one of Stephen Kings novels. Whatever country your from has no manners.
Your pompous remarks show that you really have no idea what your talking about. King was inspired by the poem to write the series. When has an artist ever been criticized for using inspiration to create a work of art, besides in your previous comments and by others like yourself? Also, your comments about Americans not being able to recognize "good" literature is also a bigot-like remark that just insists upon your conceit. But, everyone has there own opinion, and yours is ignorant.
Many, many authors are inspired by poetry and literature. The Childe Roland is one such poem, but many, many of the ideas are from king himself; they have to be, as it has references to most of his works, and he still writes them into his new ones (Under the dome, for one). As someone who appreciates all forms of literature (poe, tolkein, lovecraft, wilde, shelley) I can safely say he is a very talented author, and this is, for something that is not his usual style, a masterpiece.
This was absolutely wonderful!!!!! :-O Great pictures, I´ve read it almost for four times since last spring and I admire painters who could draw something amazing about that!
It sucks that the final three books were so bad. books 1-4 are masterpieces of science fantasy, while 5-7 are insults to the series. they're rushed, anticlimactic, and just one big middle finger to the fans.
After so many years of reading them, I became too emotionally invested in the characters, and about halfway into the final book.... I couldn't go any further.
I respect humbleness.... I hate ignorance racism and arrogance, but always always love humbleness.... what you said in that comment is pure simple and core.
As I read the series, all I had in mind as the character Roland was Viggo Mortensen. That kind of sucks because he already did Lord of the Rings, but he would be really good as Roland! Please don't pick Christian Bale and mess up the series for me!
@werytraveler it is so much more than insomnia if you are into looking into the connections the first books i would look at would be the bold printed ones in any of the new dark tower books(by new i mean wolves of the calla and up but hearts in atlantis is largely connected as is any king book with derry in it some very minor connections exist in other books and stories you will find it threaded throughout so much of his work check out the dark tower concordance by robin firth
man me too, literally just finished wizard and glass these books are amazing!! can't wait ti read the rest cant put them down they're that good!!! If they do make these into films which one day the no doubt will, they better make them as close to the books as possible instead of screwing them up badly hollywood style!!
the books after that one, will all be crap (do ya kennit?) with no imagination or heart put in to them.Hollywood would probably do a better job then king did. im sorry if i ruined yer day with this news. long nights and pleasant days.
It's Hollywood, there is a very good chance that they're going to fuck up this movie bad if they ever make it. Although I hope for the best because I loved the books and I'll watch the films regardless. We need to get Stephen back on coke, it's books were fucking awesome back then. With a few suprises every now and again as a sober Mr. King
i loved all the books truly but the end result wasn't good or bad some people like it and some people don't like it and some people do at first i was very angry about how it ended but then when i though about it how else could it have ended?
Its hard to explain what its about but in short this Gunslinger, Roland Deschain is in search for the Dark Tower. I can't tell you more than that you just gotta read the books they are amazing.
The Dark Tower contains all of Steven King's stories and creations. The Crimson King is trying to get into the "Real World" by destroying Beams of Energy that "support" the Dark Tower. The "Turtle" mentioned in "It", is a Good Guardian of one of the Pillars that shoots the Beam and holds up the Tower. The Beams are being torn down by Psychics, kidnapped like Ted Brautigan in "Hearts In Atlantis". Pennywise The Clown and *from The Stand* Randal Flagg can travel from world to world, conspiring...
Our production company has already spoke with Stephen King's publicist regarding bringing this Trilogy to film. Stephen has no desire to see this as a movie as it would detract from the story. His opinion is that much of the story's appeal is that the reader must imagine the images in his/her mind and a film would remove that element thus ruining the story. We had already pursued this as a project seven years ago and that was his response.
First of all it is not a trilogy there are 7 books. Also, The Dark Tower is going to be made into a series of films or a mini series by JJ Abrams. Abrams has the rights to it and Stephen wants him to adapt it into a mini series or a series of films.
I think it's funny how certain pictures depict Jake with black hair, and others with blond. It's been awhile, but I believe Jake had blond hair. Either way, this series is amazing, and I hope someday to see it on the big screen.
I just started Wizard and Glass a few days ago. I don't know, but I'm currently at a draw of which is my favorite so far; either W and G, or The Wastelands.
I have read and fallen in love with the series. I am currently readingWolves of the Calla, my friends that have read it before me warned me that it was a slow one but I like it just fine, or as they say in Calla Bryn Sturgis, "it do me fine". cant wait to finish but I know Ill be sad when I do.
why in the name of the gods did you read the last book first.... Im sure you were lost in the story as you are in life... and youve forgotten the face of your father.
Yes, I wish I would've started with the first book. However, for audio books they only had "DT-VII: DT" as I listen to them while I'm working, delivering pizza. I'm reading Si King's "Duma Key" though otherwise - pretty good so far. ...if Ka says so, let it be so... (not sure of spelling of Si and Ka, cause didn't "read" the book, lol)
I just finished Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower in audio book cd format. (Freaking loooong, 24 discs unabridged!) It was an awesome story - I can't remember who the reader was but he did a great job. I should read some of the earlier novels in the Dark Tower series, but I do know how it all ends now when Roland finds the Dark Tower. Maybe some day it will be a movie - that would be awesome as long as it's done well. I liked "The Mist" movie of Stephen King's novel.
(Some Spoilers!) Does anyone know how old Roland is during the books? Cuz in the first one he got put under a spell for like 10 years and he always refers to his past as many many years ago. But whenever he and his ka-tet get into a fight, he outguns everyone else with blinding speed while using his less dominat hand. So is he like what, in his late 30's early 40's?
(spoilers) I could answer that question but it would be a HUGE SPOILER. When you finish Book 7, you can infer something rather remarkable about his age.
Also remember the world is slowing down and time doesn't flow linearly. But considering he's modeled after Clint Eastwood and Eddie refers to him as "father" I'd guess late 40's to early 50's.
Well, remember at the end of the very first novel Roland fell asleep, and woke up to find Walter many years dead? He says in The Wastelands that when he awoke, Walter was probably a hundred years dead, maybe five hundred. I don't know myself, I'm just saying what I remember.
I'm currently listening to the audio book version of The Dark Tower VII, I think it's the last in the series. I haven't read any of the other ones, but it sure is a strange story so far. I like it!
I remember when the last book in the series came out...I was so obsessed with The Dark Tower that I have all the books except for the fifth one. But man, reading all those novels was a whole other personal journey for me...
agreed. I thought the fourth book was really dull. I've attempted to read the fifth book twice so far. I'm going for it again though, I want to see how it ends
Right now, I'm reading Insomnia. It's related to the Dark Tower in some oddball ways; the Crimson King is mentioned a lot in it, and it's just utterly amazing so far.
this is just the absolutely best conversion of music and epic story of stephen king. how could went you through this good idea putting jochem paaps release works together with that story ? it's just unbelievable good !
Thank you rephlex, I took the train every day for my studiyng-time. After a long time i get borred. I took the Dark Tower books and my I Pod. And after i read a few pages i took my Ipod and listen to the Jochem Paap song. During this song i imagend about Rolands World and so i get the idea to make a little Slideshow with this song. I thougt this song fits perfect to this story
Wait until you get deeper into the series. IT is a classic... but these books are just mind blowing. Did anyone else notice all the references to his other books such as The Stand and Rose Mannor? He took something from all his other stories, rolled it all together and created a whole other dimension!
Liam Neeson would be the perfect Roland because of the melancholic way he acts and looks. I can imagine him perfectly standing in front of the tower with tears in his eyes.

I couldn't finish the final book...
After so many years of reading them, I became too emotionally invested in the characters, and about halfway into the final book.... I couldn't go any further.

It is the Dark Tower that shows the true genius of King. That man is a juggernaut. You can see that he poured his entire soul in this thing.
As I was reading the Dark Tower I felt blessed to live in a world where these rich cultural treasures can be enjoyed for next to nothing.
To think that with a few hours of my salary I can buy a ticket to this wonderful story is beyond amazing.
Like Roland mentioned, ours is a world where untold riches can be bought for next to nothing
Ay, so it is!

As I read the series, all I had in mind as the character Roland was Viggo Mortensen. That kind of sucks because he already did Lord of the Rings, but he would be really good as Roland! Please don't pick Christian Bale and mess up the series for me!
Stephygal 2 years ago 5
yeah, him or the young Clint Eastwood. Like how he looked in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
darkflamethrower 2 years ago 4
@Stephygal Some people were also thinking Daniel Day-Lewis...but J. J. Abrams will probably pick someone not nearly as famous, which'll be good.

Absolutely King is a genius after I made the connection I wanted to read more to see how they are connected to the DT series
lns824 2 years ago
@crimsonking666666 True that. Just got done with insomia and it plays a very important part in the dark tower series.
werytraveler 1 year ago
@werytraveler it is so much more than insomnia if you are into looking into the connections the first books i would look at would be the bold printed ones in any of the new dark tower books(by new i mean wolves of the calla and up but hearts in atlantis is largely connected as is any king book with derry in it some very minor connections exist in other books and stories you will find it threaded throughout so much of his work check out the dark tower concordance by robin firth

man me too, literally just finished wizard and glass these books are amazing!! can't wait ti read the rest cant put them down they're that good!!! If they do make these into films which one day the no doubt will, they better make them as close to the books as possible instead of screwing them up badly hollywood style!!
noelalmighty 2 years ago
the books after that one, will all be crap (do ya kennit?) with no imagination or heart put in to them.Hollywood would probably do a better job then king did. im sorry if i ruined yer day with this news. long nights and pleasant days.

King

Censual81 2 years ago
Our production company has already spoke with Stephen King's publicist regarding bringing this Trilogy to film. Stephen has no desire to see this as a movie as it would detract from the story. His opinion is that much of the story's appeal is that the reader must imagine the images in his/her mind and a film would remove that element thus ruining the story. We had already pursued this as a project seven years ago and that was his response.
SistaSocial 2 years ago
First of all it is not a trilogy there are 7 books. Also, The Dark Tower is going to be made into a series of films or a mini series by JJ Abrams. Abrams has the rights to it and Stephen wants him to adapt it into a mini series or a series of films.

blywhy2012 2 years ago 3
why in the name of the gods did you read the last book first.... Im sure you were lost in the story as you are in life... and youve forgotten the face of your father.
blywhy2012 2 years ago 4
Yes, I wish I would've started with the first book. However, for audio books they only had "DT-VII: DT" as I listen to them while I'm working, delivering pizza. I'm reading Si King's "Duma Key" though otherwise - pretty good so far. ...if Ka says so, let it be so... (not sure of spelling of Si and Ka, cause didn't "read" the book, lol)
DaniBlazin 2 years ago
I just finished Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower in audio book cd format. (Freaking loooong, 24 discs unabridged!) It was an awesome story - I can't remember who the reader was but he did a great job. I should read some of the earlier novels in the Dark Tower series, but I do know how it all ends now when Roland finds the Dark Tower. Maybe some day it will be a movie - that would be awesome as long as it's done well. I liked "The Mist" movie of Stephen King's novel.
DaniBlazin 2 years ago
(Some Spoilers!) Does anyone know how old Roland is during the books? Cuz in the first one he got put under a spell for like 10 years and he always refers to his past as many many years ago. But whenever he and his ka-tet get into a fight, he outguns everyone else with blinding speed while using his less dominat hand. So is he like what, in his late 30's early 40's?
1Nacforsale 2 years ago
(spoilers) I could answer that question but it would be a HUGE SPOILER. When you finish Book 7, you can infer something rather remarkable about his age.
Also remember the world is slowing down and time doesn't flow linearly. But considering he's modeled after Clint Eastwood and Eddie refers to him as "father" I'd guess late 40's to early 50's.
MacavityF 2 years ago
Well, remember at the end of the very first novel Roland fell asleep, and woke up to find Walter many years dead? He says in The Wastelands that when he awoke, Walter was probably a hundred years dead, maybe five hundred. I don't know myself, I'm just saying what I remember.

Wait until you get deeper into the series. IT is a classic... but these books are just mind blowing. Did anyone else notice all the references to his other books such as The Stand and Rose Mannor?
