i was looking for waterproof cameras for kayaking last year and got first a vivitar of some sort, good to 10 feet down but still let water in slightly... and i then ended up with a gopro HD hero. 1080p hidg def video, wide angle lens, replaceable housing, and a massive number of different mounts. have a look on their youtube channel and see why gopro are soooo good
I have this camera it really is tough, i take mine hikeing/tramping once we went through this cave and i lost it underwater, found it, picked it up and just started useing it again like nothing ever happened. They really do live up to their name and they also take wonderful photos. The quality of Panasonic cameras is so high.
Don't buy this cam...some internal parts of mine are oxidized...after 6 month and carefull use...Panasonic doesn't want to change this parts and said that IS NORMAL...yea rigth, very "NORMAL" (and reliable) have a waterproof camera with internal parts oxidized!!!!! I´m very disappointed with Panasonic, Lumix brand and costumer service!

@fervenezuela THX 4 your info, guapa. I won't buy it now and get a Leica V LUX 20 and stay away from water. I guess I can't go wrong with Leica and they keep some of their value. My buying slogan is: "safe just a bit longer and get tops". Hasta Chocopasta.
everyone is like AVHD lite is so awesome yes it looks good but its absolute crap it is loked you cant upload it to youtube in HQ nor can you realy use editing sofware on it i have been using motion jpeg rather than AVHD lite
To answer your question, ya sure, videos work just fine to! i had the olympus stylus(lost it when i moved) and now i have the lumix, and to be honest, the stylus is better in many ways, like the fact that nothing covers the lens when the lumix is on, and when you are out adventureing and require a water shock proof camera, it is rather dangerous. if your looking for a good rugged camera, get the newest olympus.
i have a question. in HD record movie mode my cam records in some kind of format that is called m2ts. i cant open this file type with any other programe then the software that is supply with the camera. what can i do about this to make this file type more useable? can i change it?
I'm impressed with the video on my DMC-TS1 but very disappointed in the quality of the still images. I feel reviewers are downplaying the significant image issues on account of the ruggedization feature, but to me the still images are not good at all. Specifically the entire right hand side is soft, and the image is hugely noisy.
The whole right side on mine is soft and in spite of proof Panasonic will not do anything about it, they say it looks fine to them. Not a good company or product IMO. Not worth going to court over a $500 camera.
While this camera does all the things mentioned in the video there is no way that this can be called a review.
Piecing together a rolling commentary from press releases, some of which only apply to certain countries, and adding an Amazon link for affiliate kick-back give me the impression that this is no more than an advert.
yes, it does zoom during video recording. Note the zoom is a slider and not press buttons. I bought the camera yesterday and its great... AND won a bonus Viera HD LCD tv from Panasonic Australia website!!! competitions still going for those in Oz
I am glad I stumbled across this video I had know idea that technology had advanced so much I definitely am going to get this camera it's amazing. wow the possibilities!
Yes technology has really advanced in a tremendous way and it appears that lumix is at the forefront of it. Thanks for taking the time to comment have a Great Day!

Is it possible to charge this camera directly from a USB port? Without the need of an external charger?

Noise is a fact of life with all ruggedized cameras. If the whole side is soft, warranty it.
