  • I think the funniest part is how much funnier this show is in the west

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. except for the guy that has to guess. he was good.

  • OMG my name is Josie!

  • First good UK episode I've seen that's actually funny. I like Paul.

  • I heard Paul and John hated each other. Is that true? Their scenes together do seem a bit awkward on Paul's end of it. John seemed more relaxed though

  • OH my GOD! Clive has HAIR!

  • i don't like drew carey (at all) but i much prefer him to this clive guy or whatever his name is. clive always seems like he's bored and almost never laughs. drew has a better sense of humor. the uk group is pretty good. i like it when they put the us and them together! peace

  • John Sessions is brilliant

  • i love the UK Whose Line :) its got so much more variety. Dont get me wrong i enjoy the US one from time to time but it always seems like the 'Wayne, Colin, and Ryan show' lol which for me can get tiresome. The UK one gives us a whole variety of performers each time and i definately prefer Clive as the host. I hate when people say hes dull - they obviously havent seen him with Greg Proops!

Anyway I think they did a good job in this party quirks considering it was their first one!

  • Yeah, but Wayne Colin and Ryan are what holds the show together. With all these interchangable comedians, it can get a bit disorienting.

  • Agree totally

  • Tell us a joke, Andrew .

  • ...except they would look out of place, because they'd be fully grown adults in a primary school playground.

    What a crap similie, adrewmedina

    .

  • I approve of this comment.

  • WHAT???

Tony Slattery and Josie Lawrence TALENTLESS???

I dread to think what you rate as funny.

  • @andrewmedina john session sucks but tony slattery doesnt

  • It being the first, I guess they can't be blamed.

  • *urh* exuce me, these somebody in the microwave lol!

  • LOL!!! Archie Made me laugh like mad!!

  • there is someone in the microwave... lol pure merton gold

  • the US version is sooo much better!

  • I prefer the UK version, too many woman screaming in the US version.

  • its annoying

  • didnt think he would get that last one

  • paul rules!!!

  • I love John Sessions, he talks so intellegently, just like Stephen Colbert.

  • thats clives new show Whose Hair is it anyway LOL

  • I Heard Colin Was Gonna Join That.

  • rofl yea lol

  • omg i love the look on clive's face at :53 when he rings the doorbell for the first time

  • Not to mention one of the rare times he actually looked like he was enjoying himself (with the "Microwave" reaction)

  • Whose line rules. I still kick myself for missing todays episodes!!

  • i love whose line, and always will...

but john sessions isn't exactly my favourite person in the world, ergo this one isn't as good as in later episodes/series in my opinion :s

  • wow :O is this really the 1st series XD

    fabby XD xx

  • The first episode! woah!

  • Mr unitrous, the UK version did not edit as much as the US version this is pure improv. Why don't you check out the US version outtakes and see how much they throw out.

And clive is a lot more strict about keeping improv improv!

  • OMG Clive has hair!!(Well most of it anyway!!)

  • oh yeah lol!

  • 1st time ive seen josie in a dress :P

    hardcore \m/

  • clive looked so happy when first pressing the doorbell, the expression on his face was great :)

  • it definitely improved over time. once the regulars became used to how it works. also it had a greater range of games and guests than the u.s. version.

  • I have it on DVD!

  • was this the premiere? and at 1:30: (buzz) "excuse there's somebody at the microwave" rofl and Archie's little sound effect was icing on the cake.

  • my god, josies hair!....so retro i could vomit! lol

  • i love josies ' paul im on a step 'dont know why but its just funny to me , i love whose line long live re-runs

  • the werewolf quirk could've been sooo much more dramatic! and if it had been colin doing the theatre director like he does in the Hollywood Director game it would've been hilarious...

Paul Merton was good though, i never knew he was in whose line!

  • i didnt either , i agree , it could have been better still good though .

  • because this was the UK version.

  • Actually it was because John Sessions is the only person who'd played at this point.

  • clive looks so young!

    :0

  • i know i found this and i thought ooh maybe he will have all his hair but no....poor clive he did go bald early didnt he . :) they all look different but he lokk especially different . :)

  • It depends whether you understand all the British 80s references, whereas the US one is more recent.

  • you are so right.

  • ahhhh twiglets i want 1

  • any1 else notice josie picking her nose at the beginning and rolling it in her fingers? lol

  • Haha, you can hear Josie laughing her head off in the background. :)

  • OMG thats paul merton!!!! whoop!!! lol and josie lol they look so young!

  • Indeed they do. Paul was 31, Josie 29. Don't know about Archie? Clive was 35 and John was... oh 35 also, though about 32 days younger than Clive himself.

    Not as though anybody cares.

  • Not true, it's interesting to know stuff like that, since it was so long ago.

  • You've lost me?

  • "Not as though anybody cares."

    "Not true, I care."

    :)

  • the best person as the host in party quirks must be tony

i just love his little dances when he guesses their characters right

i reckon the best people on the uk version are

    tony

    greg

    ryan

    and colin

    <3 tony's jackets

  • i agree

  • i dont like either better.. just so long as ryan stiles and colin mochary are there

  • From the way you've spelt it, you're making a mockery of his name!

    (I think you mean Mochrie).

  • 'i realise the gravity of the situation!' genius!

  • Does Paul even want to be there? He seems totally bored with this game.

  • thats pauls style of humour i think, the fed up type of person who comes out with amazingly funny witty quips. just watch have i got news for you

  • agony aunt. you british have a name for everything

  • I prefer the US version for some reason, I guess it's just my sense of humour!

  • I prefer the UK version, BUT the American guests are the funniest...Ryan Styles is the best and Proops is great too.

  • Clive looks so happy when he rings the doorbell ^^

  • Is Josie married?

  • Oh it's this question again! Hahahaha...

  • no dont think so. gd vid btw

  • No. I have a strange urge that Josie should marry Ryan Stiles, but hey, that's me...

  • i sometimes think that too!

  • He he, :P I'm not the only one then!!!

    That's a relief!

  • sometimes if u look then if josie is performin and u can see ryan siting down in the background then u can see him staring at her! :P

  • I know! And whenever they play some sort of melodrama or if they are paired up in something, then they are nearly always holding each other's waists or back or hands etc...

  • i think he shud marry colin...... lol

  • If they weren't best mates but worked on Whose Line, I think they probably would date in secret!

  • they do always hold each others hands and waitst! i also always think that colin and ryan get on better and they are better together in 'questions only'! lol! but defo...ryans <3 josie!

  • Yay! Want to be friends?

  • sure!

  • Whichever version you like all depends on your tastes. I prefer the UK version because the comedy is more subtle and implied rather than obvious. plus I prefer clive but it's unfair to say that either one is better.

    this video is great!

  • haha theres some1 at the microwave! U can just imagine :D! As for this whole US v UK thing, I personally prefer the US whose line (fyi, i'm british) because drew seems more happy to be there. Clive sometimes hurries games along and doesn't give them long enough to guess in games like party quirks. Also, i like the improvisers in the US version a little bit more than in UK version. However, I still find the UK version very funny and will continue watching both of them as they are both very funny!

  • haha great game really good they were all funny. why bother pretending the us version is better they just like to get cheap laughs by dancing or looking as if they have a spasm

  • All those things you listed are just preference as well.

You're right that the UK and US versions are almost essentially the same, though. All it really did at the point when it changed was get a new host and move to a new channel - if you watch the UK version, you'll notice that the last season (10) is pretty much the US version with less censorship and Clive as host.

  • John is the man.

  • 1:31

  • Paul is fantastic and John made me laugh really hard in this clip.

And don't you just love how Clive seems really excited the first time he rings the new bell? :D

  • The UK version is so much better. Its just that Americans dont get our sense of humour at all.

Saying that, i dont really like Paul Merton that much.

  • Oh, please stop with that self-righteous act... I'm American and I adore British comedy, but I still prefer the US version of Whose Line over its UK counterpart. That's not to say I dislike the British version, because I love it as well. I just happen to enjoy the American version a little bit more. Honestly, some of you people act as if it's a sin to find them both funny (which they both are).

  • SquishK, I can understand your point, however, I don't really find the US version as funny as the UK version. I'm actually English and sometimes don't really "get" the American sense of humour. Of course, I think, on the British show, I preferred it when the Americans were there, as the S.O.H was more easily understandable. Love Archie's Werewolf, though... and Paul, of course.

  • I love both versions-though maybes the UK version a bit more, mainly because I'm very proud of being British- but I can understand why Americans don't find the British version as funny. Brits and Americans have different senses of humour- most Brits prefer subtle humour and irony, and most Americans prefer outwardly funny things. Its all a matter of opinion and tastes so an argument over which is better is useless. Anyways, love Paul in this. He's so funny.

  • Isn't Paul funny in everything he does? Although, I find he's also vulnerable.

  • He is. He's a comic legend.

  • That's why I like him so much. He always adds that little something doesn't it? What is it? ... Oh, I know. A few complaints... and sarcasm? (Laugh if you wish... I am... at myself - ha-ha-ha!)

    Excuse me, I'm a nutter.

  • Don't worry, so am I! Lol. But yeah, he is sarcastic, or ironic-my ex-english teacher would kill me for using sarcastic.

  • You know, you're probably right. I think ironic is the best way to describe his complaints. Sorry.

  • Its ok lol. Ironic-sarcastic, same thing. I'm just used to my teachers nagging about calling it irony rather than sarcasm 8) Lol.

  • I'm English and I prefer the US version. I don't think either one's objectively BETTER, just different.

  • the voice of reason...i feel the same, though there are a few games i thought were played better on the UK version, and i like the fact that there was a greater variety of players on the UK version.

  • I agree wholeheartedly, the two series are very different and can't really be compared.

I have to say that i prefer the UK version right now, but my tastes regularly shift from one to the other.

  • i agree

  • Irony. A lot (not all before someone takes this the wrong way) of Americans don't "get" irony. Same as some Brits don't really appreciate outward humour.

  • How many times have you repeated this? It's not, and if you think the UK version is rubbish then you are, as Guest1001 said, an idiot.

  • josie's dress is mad :]]

paul merton = legendary in every way!

  • =D Yep!

  • Clive anderson makes this show what it is, change that and it doesnt work, exactly as the american show proves.

  • No, it's the performers that make the show what it is. You could take away the host from either version, and the laughs would remain intact, because it's the improvisers - not the host - who are there to be funny. They're what the show is all about.

  • And honestly, the whole "The American version sucks, because the host isn't as funny!" argument has gotten so tired... If you prefer Clive, fine (I do, too.) but don't bash the American version simply because you think that the host - the most superfluous ingredient in the entire formula - doesn't quite live up to your standards. Especially when they're essentially the same show.

"the UK version is definitely better than the american one. that's the same for most things though isnt it... "

YES I AGGREE, the american one has in my opinion, taken the aim of the show away, i guess, like everything american, theyve tryed to glam it up, and they failed, this UK version is ALOT better!

  • Wow the first episode ^_^

Party Quirks is the best game!!!

  • I like sound effects, but in the UK version because a member of the audience doesn't do it, Ryan does, and he isn't constantly laughing.

  • Oh my gosh, younger Paul Merton. XD

  • lol

    firat ever uk episode!

  • the UK version is definitely better than the american one. that's the same for most things though isnt it...

  • I suppose...I'm British, so don't take this too hard all you Americans. We didn't come up with the idea for CSI.

  • I'm not going to mince words - anyone who says "the American version is better" is an idiot. The fact is, this is the first episode ever and every show ever made needs time to find its feet. The fact is that when both shows what at their peak, the UK version was funnier, even with the same performers as the US version.

  • GO JOHN SESSIONS AS THEATRE DIRECTOR!

  • Spot-on, Chinhealer. So many things annoy me about the Yank version - Drew Carey laughing at his own weak jokes and making a tit of himself by joining in the games atrociously, the audience WHOOPING at every line whether it's funny or not like they're at a rodeo, Wayne Brady singing too damn much... I can't watch re-runs of the bloody US show anymore.

  • Keep in mind that's probably because the American cast have been at it a lot longer than the UK cast, not only because they had fewer people on the American show, so there was a greater chance of working with the same people each week, but also the American cast has been at it a lot longer, considering that guys like Colin Mochrie, Ryan Stiles, Greg Proops and others had been doing the UK version years before the American version ever started, so they had a lot more experience on the show.

  • The American version is far, far inferior. The ineptitude and unfunnyness of Drew Carey compared with the far wittier Clive Anderson has much to do with this. Also, the likes of John Sessions, Paul Merton, Josie Lawrence, Sandi Toksvig and Tony Slattery are consummate performers with a good deal more subtlety than the Americans. Interrestingly, Greg Proops, Ryan Stiles et al are far funnier themselves in the UK version.

  • "Is that the way you're going to do it?" LOL

John Sessions is hilarious in this one. And Paul's confused expression makes it even better.

  • Agoney Aunt= Dear Abby.

  • So don't you have microwaves in Canada...or irony or sarcasm or cerebal humour? :)

  • Paul - what are you wearing? Crushed un-ironed linen by the looks of it!

It's really weird not to see him in an odd shirt, hehe!

    lol...microwave...!

  • Paul Merton was brilliant in the early Uk Whose Line's - just so sad he left the show too damn early.

    He's fantastic in this scene.

  • "Excuse me, there's somebody at the microwave." Classic!
