After watching clips of the 1967 Forrestal Tragedy and numerous clips of WW2 U.S. carriers being hit by Kamikazis, torpedos and bombs, I doubt that 2 sunburns will make any significant impact other than temporarily delaying air operations, if the carrier gets hit that is. Aircraft carrier design has continuily evolved, especially in the realms of survivability and damage control. That is one thing people (like you) have not realised. i met several sailors on the constellation[connie] in san diego.i was told by them, this ship was originally supposed to be the connie.they were both being built at almost the same time.the original ship kitty hawk suffered severe fire damage b4 launching and had to undergo extensive repairs.the original constellation was renamed kitty hawk and vice versa because the kitty hawk was the next in line to be launched.the connie retained some of the kitty hawk plaques on some walls.

I was w/ an F-14 squadron on the Kitty Hawk back in 94-95(brownshirt, flight deck). I went all over asia(japan!, hong kong,korea,singapore, etc), but I didn't get a chance to go to Australia in 11 months worth of sea time, & all the guys who went there said it was the best.

I served on CV63 USS Shitty Kitty for WESPAC cruise in 1977-78. Was an AE5 Flightline troubleshooter in VA-192 Golden Dragons on A7E,s. Sure sucked at the time but wouldn't change the experience for anything. Still get goosebumps every time I see a carrier Cat shot. Can still smell the turnin-and-burnin JP5.
