Having said all of that I have walked out on a job I didn't want to do. However, this was before the cuts. Now I would be lucky to get anything. I can't even start my own business because the banks added a job requirement to those loans.

About Cool mini or not: I ordered from them last year and it was a most dreadful experience. They have a 'don't care' attitude if they mess up your order. They sent me a mini which had no head. It took them 3 attempts to send the correct part, and were rude.

@bluetablepainting I completely agree with what you are saying. What I don't understand is how the general public let big companies and the government get away with certain things. I honestly feel that 'going rogue' and throwing off the shackles of the big companies is the way forward. I can imagine that after the first year (Setup costs...) the only thing that limits us is our selves. I have yet to figure out how to do this in the current climate, but Blue Table is an inspiration.

Couldn't help but notice the comments on the UK job market below. Unfortunately, it is true. The profession I am trained for is in the arts and humanities sector, and there is no more funding for that sector. Also there has been a massive shift in bias towards age range in UK employment, meaning 30% of jobs are inaccessible to younger people. The snow last winter shut down stores in rural areas as people shopped online, which bankrupt many small businesses... recruitment is dire for the young.

I don't know if quiting your job is as easy as you make it sound. But whatever, everyone has an opinion.

As to the idea of a successful game, I think a big determiner is price. GamesWorkshop is very pricy, which excludes a lot of kids that want to play. The only guys that can afford it are old dudes like me.

Sorry. I'll say it again. When the economy is being battered and jobs are being cut in the UK, I can't just leave me job and move on. There are no jobs to be had. Don't tell me I can't complain about my employer when i can't get another job. I have been looking and applying for 2 and a half years, nothing happening.

@bluetablepainting Technically, with the job situation here the way it is I'd agree. However, for the person I am and the intelligence I have, no, this job is an atrocious waste of my brain. The reason I am perfectly within my right to complain is that it isn't my fault that jobs all over the country are being cut. It isn't my fault that employers can't afford to hire people. If I was a painting expert and asked you for a job but you couldn't afford to hire me, I could moan about my crappy job.

If you've got a job, leaving it would be a huuuuuge mistake, I've been on Jobseekers for about 4 years. Though, if you were to leave your job for another one, it'd be best to make sure you've got a job lined up before youl eave your current one.

I'd be fuckin' sorted if you were my employer, though, but I could never paint to the standard your company does.

@Vehementi rules and... policies, but I could file a DMCA on this video (I wouldn't, don't worry :p.), but if you also keep track and post in channels that are part of the atheist "community" on Youtube, you find a lot of Christians and creationists file false DMCA claims against videos to censor them, it happens a lot. It's very easy to silence someone you disagree with here on Youtube, with no real punishable conseqnences.

Another thing I'd add to what makes a sustainable game is having miniatures to support it.

I don't know how many times I've seen games that have a great history and rules set, but they just don't have the funds to put the miniatures out. You have to go around and get other companies' miniatures that aren't exactly what you're looking for, you have to proxy things, etc...

@HonestIowan and sometimes thats the best thing u can do, i play an awsome sci fi 15mm game, minis are planned too be brought out eventualy , but until then we have too use other minitures too repersent units, but hey thats fine theirs ton of miniture companys out their and i can be patient for them too make their minitures. but its not bad really, sometimes you find some really awsome figs, and get a chance and reason too purchase tons of em :)!

Totally agree with all your points about what makes a good, sustainable game company.

I don't play WarMachine because I don't like playing named characters. Part of the fun for me is making up a backstory for my characters and army.

Imagine a game where for example two people play and spend the same amount of points for their troops, but the one guy gets two squads with good weaponry while the other dude just picks one character equipped with amazing weapons. And still the battle is good and depends on tactical and strategical thinking.

I'm becoming more intrigued in your ideas for your own game system and range. The idea of a single large group of units to mix and match sounds incredibly flexible, but my only caveat would be that I think it would be a nightmare to balance. Then again, maybe having all the options open to everyone would lend itself to balancing better rather than against other armies. Only way to find out it to try it I guess.

So the next question: Fantasy, SciFi, SciFantasy?

Take a look at Ex illis. They have the force orginaization idea and character building sysytem that you talked about. You might be a little put of by the fact you use a computer to play the game, but it looks really fun.

15:05 - Except that the recent books seem to be doing exactly that by making said characters far superior options compared to the generic ones - and in some cases, direct replacements (where's the generic Chapter Master in the Blood Angels book, for example). I agree that WH/40k have offered that freedom, and that it's good, but it seems to be gradually getting replaced.

I'm fairly sure Mantic use 28mm, but not the 'heroic' proportion that GW uses (exaggerated weapons, hands etc).

Chronopia! Grrrrr. When I was a wee lad and I wanted to get into Warhammer, the weasel who owned my local game store duped me into buying a bunch of those minis because he told me it was compatible with Warhammer.

Great video and yahoo for different games. Even if you guys did more GW specialist games, I would be happy (more so). A mordheim table would be sweet.
