Learning another language gives the learner the ability to step inside the mind and context of that other culture. Without the ability to communicate and understand a culture on its own terms, true access to that culture is barred. Why Why is this important? In a world where nations and peoples are ever more dependent upon on another to supply goods and services, solve political disputes and other things anyways we can become friends and to help other people.
I think learning a new language is useful. It help you to make new friends and learn about different cultures and if you like travelling it's useful to know the main language spoken. If you go to Japan for example and you can't speak/read Japanese then you won't get the full experience.

I think learning languages is very important in a moral sense and in society. By learning different languages you can explore the world and make new friends whie doing it. I speak two languages, english and italian, i am taking japanese classes at my school and i wish to learn more languages. I think that learning languages is a great thing since it can be linked to many other aspects of learning about other people and cultures, both historic and contemporary. It can be hard to learn a language though, and take a lot of work, esp. for ones very different from English. I think it will always be very worthwhile though to put in the effort.

Because it's very important that you can communicate with others. My parents had to move to another country, 20 years ago 'cause of the war in Cambodia. Every day I see them struggle 'cause they can't speak the language, even though they really want to. They have problems with finding a job, filling in papers and they don't go to a parent-teacher meeting because of the language barrier. Learning other languages is always a win-win situation, you can gain a lot from it.

I love learning languages! Every year when I was in elementary school, we'd do a special cultural appreciation day. We'd learn several simple words in another language, learn dances, and eat international food. Because of that, I've always had an appreciation for different cultures and their languages. I am now in college and love challenging myself by taking various language courses.

It's really important to learn foreign languages to stay conected with the rest of the world. I'm from Norway and if I did'n learn english, german or japanese how am I supposed to comunicate with people from an other country? And with other languages comes other cultures. Cuture is one of the most important things in my life, not just dance and acting, but food and celebrations!
Languages allow people to broaden their borders, and through learning a language you learn so many other things - not just culture, but also etymology and all the little quirks and curiosity each language has.
Naturally, in the practical sense, you could work in a different country, or read books in another language which otherwise you would miss out on. :p It is a bit of a lame / very particular reason - but anyway xD

Y'know, there's a lot of deep and very important reasons for communication between different people and cultures, for purposes of learning or tolerance and that value... But I think the first thing I think of is potentially something worth just as much even if 'shallow' - it's fun! It's fun to learn to speak and present ideas in a new way. It's great to be able to experience a new way of life, and then visit that place and participate fully with the language and knowledge.
I see languages almost as barriers between humans, and to overcome those barrieres and learn a new language is something that could brings us closer. The reason why I have learnt 5 already and I am learning more is so that I will be able to cope on my own when I go travelling when I finish school in a years time. I think it’s polite to go to a country when you know how to say things and you know about their culture and stuff and it is really useful. The internet is shrinking the world we can know what is happening instantaneously and respond almost as fast. You yourself are watched by people in Japan live. Because of this "shrinking" people are now exposed to each others language and culture. Not understanding or not being tolerate of others is not the way to go we must embrace others and try to learn and understand each other.

To me, learning foreign languages is important for many different aspects in life, like business, leisure and just being social! Many jobs require you to travel worldwide, and you'll do extra well if you learn the language. For people like me, learning other languages is fun and interesting! You can learn the derivations of words and find out how other languages adapt words. In Japanese especially, you can see how a few English words come in. Japanese is my favourite language to learn. It's fun!
learning a different language not only better for you, but the person you are talking to, you don't have to shout or mime perhaps embarrassing the both of you, if you use there language it is more natural, they feel better that you have not treat them like and idiot and you feel better that you have made an effort, quoting my French teacher "when you talk to someone in there own language you not only speak to them, you speak to their heart".

I have an experience of that myself. I've been a care assistant for nine years and sometime ago I looked after a elderly german lady who could only speak a little english. I started to learn a little german so that I could speak to her. When she heard this, she smiled at me. I was so happy that I could talk to her using the german that I had learned.
Learning a language gives you so many options in life, like for me I dream that after I finish university, I want to go visit Japan and maybe even stay permanently. This happens all over the world! I think learning languages is important as it helps you to understand people from different countries, it helps the community and you cantalk to people from all over the world. the more languages you learn the better-i am currently still learning english, and german and french( i am Polish)and i hope to do gcse in spanish and learn some japanese soon too,it is also very fun, many people say its hard work, but i love learning new things and talking to people in other countries in their language

Well to me, learning different language is just for fun. Although certain it is going to help my career but I enjoy learning different language from reading books. Say I like this book very much, I would enjoy it more when I am reading in its original language instead of the translated version, no matter how good the translation is. Original is always the best.

Without the ability to communicate and understand a culture on its own terms, true access to that culture is barred. Why Why is this important? I think learning a new language is useful. It help you to make new friends and learn about different cultures and if you like travelling it's useful to know the main language spoken. If you go to Japan for example and you can't speak/read Japanese then you won't get the full experience.

Learning another language is very useful aswell as important because you may have relatives from another country and they may not know your first language, but by learning theirs you will be able to communicate with them, it's also really useful if you write it up on your cv because if you know another language it can come in handy when dealing with someone who doesnt speak the native language.

Because it's very important that you can communicate with others. My parents had to move to another country, 20 years ago 'cause of the war in Cambodia. Every day I see them struggle 'cause they can't speak the language, even though they really want to. They have problems with finding a job, filling in papers and they don't go to a parent-teacher meeting because of the language barrier. Learning other languages is always a win-win situation, you can gain a lot from it.

I love learning languages! Every year when I was in elementary school, we'd do a special cultural appreciation day. We'd learn several simple words in another language, learn dances, and eat international food. Because of that, I've always had an appreciation for different cultures and their languages. I'm from Norway and if I did'n learn english, german or japanese how am I supposed to comunicate with people from an other country? And with other languages comes other cultures. Languages allow people to broaden their borders, and through learning a language you learn so many other things - not just culture, but also etymology and all the little quirks and curiosity each language has.

I feel that learning foreign languages is very essential because in life, you meet people from all over the world. It is convenient if you know how to communicate with them. You would not need to hire an interpreter. You may meet people from different countries because of your job, going to a camp, or maybe even an international school. Y'know, there's a lot of deep and very important reasons for communication between different people and cultures, for purposes of learning or tolerance and that value... But I think the first thing I think of is potentially something worth just as much even if 'shallow' - it's fun! It's fun to learn to speak and present ideas in a new way. It's great to be able to experience a new way of life, and then visit that place and participate fully with the language and knowledge.

I see languages almost as barriers between humans, and to overcome those barrieres and learn a new language is something that could brings us closer. Of course learning every language in the world would be impossible so learning a language that you feel close to (maybe you have roots/anchestors from another country) or simply because you have an interest in other customs is bes. Being able to communicate makes it easier to truly understand other cultures and be accepted. And it feels amazing :)

I think just about every language in the world has a beauty and charm to it, in a unique way. That's why I like languages, and I hope to learn alot more of them in the future. Knowing different languages and speaking to people in their native language really opens up another world to you, because somehow, each country has their own angle of looking at things. For instance, if the Canadian economy begins to struggle & unemployment rates increase then by knowing more than one language a Canadian would be able to find employment in other countries. And sometimes a man might fall in love with a woman whose native language is different from his. 1. If you were to go to a foreign country without knowing their language, then you'd be struggling to make friends, finding places or even talking to the locals with everyday simple language.

i think that learning another lanuage is pretty cool. like everyones been saying.
but lets be honest, its not essential.
Learning about culture/lanugage is a useful tool and actually a conversation starter.
Finding it easy to communicate with people, whether there from England, France, HongKong , wherever, is an advantage, especally with people wanting to travel more.
I think that if everyone learnt something about someone else, then there would be a hell of a lot less racism around.

I think learning foreign languages is cool, fun, and helpful. I believe that learning a different language will allow you to meet new people that speak a different language. also you can go to another country and speak the language of that country and understand the people of that country. learning foreign languages isjust great and if you can speak a different language you can teach your friends how to speak another language and you and your friends can practice speaking a foreign language.

i think learning a new language can be romanctic and fun, you could meet new people and maybe fall in love.
i am trying to learn french and japanese and i find them hard, but its worth trying somthing new.
i would love to try these skills i have learned when i am older and i think this is very improtant to be able to talk to others that can't speak english.

its important for people to learn languages because languages give people a sense of self identity, however to understand each others identity we should learn each others languages.
with a language comes a totally new culture that can enchant others just how Japan enchanted you.
Some people learn languages to aid each others understanding as translators, however i think that its when people learn languages themsleves to fuel their own passion and curiousity that true understanding can begin

I think learning all different languages is a learning skill And a skill for you so when you go to different countries they can understand what your saying and then you can understand what there saying, Also you can have conversations with other people that speak different languages.You will pass your language tests,Get a job easier,You can learn about each countries culture,Make more of different friends from around the world. for myself for example, i am living in a very touristic place and every summer, i have to communicate with people all over the world. so, i know more than 5 languages...
now, i can hardly believe that someone in my age, knows only 1 language....
Also, i have never met someone knowing only 1 language....

I think it is important to learn another language as it would help you if you went on holiday to another country and you would be able to talk and understand the same language, it would help if you got a job/ went to live abroad and you would get along better in the job, it would be easier to talk to other people on the internet or different websites where they speak differently to you. You can also learn more about the culture, religion , how they live.It opens up a lot of opportunities for you

Hello! I think that learning other languages is really important. The reason why I have learnt 5 already and I am learning more is so that I will be able to cope on my own when I go travelling when I finish school in a years time. I think it’s polite to go to a country when you know how to say things and you know about their culture and stuff and it is really useful. I would say more but it seems that I don’t have enough characters left to do so. :3

Whats Going to happen if we all didnt speak Foriegn Languages? Well it'll feel like all the countries have been split up and we wouldnt be able to communicate! There would be no translators in the news.. Imagine listening to something you don't undertand on te radio!

There are lots of people in this world who are so ignorant, and are always like "Oh why can't everyone just speak English?" This must be very hurtful to those who try and learn English for the sake of everyone who just can't be bothered. Learning another language can open many doors for people who need a job, it improves our skills, and we can communicate better with people if we are submerged in their language and culture. I personally love learning languages, and wish to keep them all going :D

The internet is shrinking the world we can know what is happening instantaneously and respond almost as fast. You yourself are watched by people in Japan live. Because of this "shrinking" people are now exposed to each others language and culture. Not understanding or not being tolerate of others is not the way to go we must embrace others and try to learn and understand each other.

I think learning new languages is important as everyone speaks in a different way or language to everyone else and they all have their own opinions and by learning another language, you can understand these opinions more and borden your horizons. I also enjoy learning a new language as I find it interesting and fun :)

I think that learning foreign language is important like opening a door of possibilities that you wouldn't have otherwise. A foreign language isn't just a language it's a culture. It can give you a whole new perspective to things and ideas and a overall better understanding of life. It gives you the power to communicate with different people everywhere and gain so much from it. It's rewarding, liberating, and if all else fails, it looks really good on a CV!

I think it is important to learn as many languages so that we can know more about the world we live in and have a better understanding for people in other counties. When I learn a new language I also learn about the county(s) where it is spoken, so I think the simplw task of learning a language is much more than understanding the language, but the people who speak it.

Even if you don't speak perfectly a tongue you can be proud of speaking just two or three world !! I have the luck to speak French, and Arabic perfectly ! I also speak English and Spanish because I learn it at school. And I love trying to speak Japenese ! ♥♥

You can also meet new people and find out about different cultures and how other people live. In most jobs you have to go to different places so it can help it that category as well. Firstly, IT'S WAY FUN! I love talking to other people in other languages! xD Especially those who don't know what the hell I'm talking about! :3 Next, well, it's culture isn't it? Being involved in other cultures without having to be born there or living there that's always fun :3 You can find yourself communicating with so many more people if you are bi/multilingual!

To me, learning foreign languages is important for many different aspects in life, like business, leisure and just being social! Many jobs require you to travel worldwide, and you'll do extra well if you learn the language. For people like me, learning other languages is fun and interesting! You can learn the derivations of words and find out how other languages adapt words. In Japanese especially, you can see how a few English words come in. Japanese is my favourite language to learn. It's fun!

learning a different language not only better for you, but the person you are talking to, you don't have to shout or mime perhaps embarrassing the both of you, if you use there language it is more natural, they feel better that you have not treat them like and idiot and you feel better that you have made an effort, quoting my French teacher "when you talk to someone in there own language you not only speak to them, you speak to their heart".

Learning languages is important when meeting new people in employment are when you are taking care of someone who doesn't know the language.
I have an experience of that myself. I've been a care assistant for nine years and sometime ago I looked after a elderly german lady who could only speak a little english. I started to learn a little german so that I could speak to her. When she heard this, she smiled at me. I was so happy that I could talk to her using the german that I had learned.

Learning a language gives you so many options in life, like for me I dream that after I finish university, I want to go visit Japan and maybe even stay permanently. This happens all over the world! Now of course you need to be able to speak their language. Another reason is it's a way to express yourself, show your culture or the culture you love! It's also a way to open the eyes of others to how different cultures are, otherwise wouldn't the world be boring?

I think that learning foreign languages is very useful! :D You can interact with other people and learn their culture. You can also meet new friends or if you are going on holiday and need to ask for example "where are the shops?" you will know how to ask that! ^^ It's also cool to know several different languages or even a couple of words! It especially makes travelling easier! xD

I think learning another language is hard work but is soooo pays of! And is really practical in so many ways! You can interact with other people around the world and it's easier to buy things from online and you can talk about things that others have no idea what you're saying! It's rather very fun. ^ ^
It just helps you in life like travelling, shopping and careers and it's fun being able to understand what people are saying without them knowing. ^ ^ x :P

Most people learn foreign languages because they have an interest in that countries culture or the fact that it's just a beautiful language. It's great to know that other people learning the same language have the same interest as you! I fell in love with japan and a lot of people have the same interest as me!

i think learning a different language is cool because they you could use it when your on the computer and off then you could tech it to other people and help them learn it too. also you could have conversations with people that speak the same language that you have learned if they end up coming from the same place of the language you learned and are like new to the school. i really hope i win i would love to have this book (:

It also gives you a better chance to do more in life, have a wider horizon on your opertunites and just a all round chance to be a better person. Foreign languages are what makes us all unique and gives us culture. By learning these languages, we learn what makes us all human and the things that makes every single human on this planet unique. If we don't break out of the rut of our own culture that we've grown fond of, we'll never experience life as it's truely meant to be. I am an aspiring polyglot and I will say it's been the best experience of my life to learn new languages and I want everyone else to know that joy, too.

Well to me, learning different language is just for fun. Although certain it is going to help my career but I enjoy learning different language from reading books. Say I like this book very much, I would enjoy it more when I am reading in its original language instead of the translated version, no matter how good the translation is. Original is always the best.
