  • a true joy to listen to :) Whilst some other pianists rush through this piece, and thus reduce it to a circus piece, Gavrylyuk gives the impression of taking his time and listening to himself play. True music, which requires the most dazzling virtuosity.

  • fantastico.... :)

  • HOLY CRAP THAT WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • While not as fast as some play it, it is nice hear all of the notes!

  • this sounds pretty good

  • SPLENDID!

Only Pogorelich's Carnegie Hall performance is more compelling.

Rupert Egerton-Smith's new version at the 2009 Paris Concours, where he won First Prize, compares well with this.

Mariano Bellepede gives a wonderful account of Islamey also.

  • Very good!

  • This is the best I've heard of this! Simply incredible. You would never know it, but he plays this considerably slower than almost everyone else. The reason you don't notice it is because of his masterful coloring and articulation. This proves faster is not necessarily better.

  • I noticed he plays it slower then all others.

    But i dont mind it.

I think 'slower' like this is much better then just fast fast fast everything is in a ruch, nothing is spoken, many notes missing it just is so disconcerting

  • It is not slower, it's just clearer, more detailed and more lyrical than most. He takes a lot of time in the middle section -- to very good effect.

I agree that "Faster is not better."

  • Faster isn't always better, but there are pianists who can play fast AND still give masterful coloration and articulation without having to play slowly. Some pianists just have more ability than others.

  • This is, indeed, excellent. The "fast" parts seem pretty standard, but he takes a lot of time in the middle section.

The delicacy, refinement and extreme clarity with which he plays make it outstanding, although I still prefer Pogorelich to all others in this tour de force.

  • Definitely - his interpretation is far better than those of artists such as Lisitsa, or certainly Lang Lang, whose performances lack any real dynamics or emotion. He also plays more ore less perfectly - I didn't notice a single flaw!

  • Wooow, perfect!!!!

  • He is one of the greatest virtuosos, his whole body feels the music and plays beautifully (both with emotion and technique)

  • His Bach-Busoni video on youtube is amazing! Really good dynamics here.

  • Gavrylyuk... one of my favorites!!

  • great technique

needs to sit up straight tho

  • And why is that a necessary?

  • If he keeps hunching over like this he will hurt his back.

  • this isn't grade 1 piano anymore where you learn about proper posture, lmao
