The boy was referring to the way the car was parked on the road. In America, people drive on the right side, in the UK/Britain/England, they drive on the left. If you see the car, it is parked on the left side of the road. Now in the US, someone can still park in the opposite direction, or they can park like that on a one way road, but that is not very common, and I don't think this boy considered that. The boy's smarter then you if you think that his pointing to the tree or car was a fail.
