  • Memories from childhood. :) Love Russian stacking dolls. Still looking for the perfect set!

  • This clip sparked my interest in Russian dolls when I was a kid in the 70s, but they were unobtainable at the time in the States, since the Cold War was in progress. I'm happy to say I now own two sets of nesting dolls!

  • The last doll looks a piece of a candle

  • its like every one was pregnant except the last one XD

  • That tenth doll seemed a bit reluctant to come out for a few seconds.

  • BABOOSHKAS!!

  • I absolutely LOVE whoever found and posted this! I fell in love with these dolls by watching this clip and even at age 39 (I can't believe that's how old I am!) have not forgotten it. I saw someone was looking to buy a set, you can find them all over the internet and they are not expensive. Although I have read that like so many other crafts, the tradition is not being passed down and so it may be a dying art.

  • Yo dawg..

  • Hey guys, I severed my thumb...anybody find it?

  • this skit was between 1977-79.

  • oh man i remember watching this on tv.... roll back!

  • check out my video of my russian dolls the last one is literally the size of a pop rock

  • I want one of these dolls just to put a useless note inside for somebody to eventually find. I'm serious, where can I find one without going to Russia?

  • @Doozer8650 yes on Ebay or at some stores, you can search on internet, stores near you location....

  • I can't imagine how long it took to make any of these stop-motion films! Darn! I miss these! STICK THAT RED #$!{*^!!% ELMO UNDER A LAWN MOWER! THEN WE CAN GET BACK TO REAL SESAME STREET! He's the thing that started RUINING this show!!!

  • We had nesting dolls when I was little... I LOVED imagining that they came to life and did this all on their own when we weren't around. So great! Thanks for posting!

  • A doll within a doll. *Inception horns*

  • i love russian dolls, i have like 10 of them in my house, even if i'm afghan and they invaded us :)

  • @ dorourke: If there were more of them, they would be like the Little Cats "A" thru "Z" in "The Cat in the Hat Comes Back". They are all underneath each other's hats, and Z is so small that no one can see him.

  • Hey this is such a cool video

  • DOUBLE DREAM FEET GUY LIKED THIS!!!

  • @EliasJordan3 yeah i know!! haha lol he would like this...

  • The 10th doll looks like a turd with a face on it. I always thought that when I was a kid.

  • Damn russian cloning machine

  • black ops lol

  • always thought this was weird as a kid...kids having kids o.O

  • I remember being endlessly fascinated by this clip as a kid. Thanks for uploading!

  • Very cute.

  • The last one was puny.

  • This video just creeps me the hell out. Especially the way they all claw their inhuman way out of each other.

  • @InverseVestral

There's another segment where they count backwards from 10. With each number the larger doll covers up the smaller one.

    Now THAT is creepy!

  • This is one of my earliest and fondest memories of SS.

  • If they went all the way to 20,they would need to get out a microscope. They'd be so subatomically small and everything.

  • @dorourke105

What if they went all the way to 100?

  • @Pocockable OMG that's scray

  • heh I have one of those that has ten dolls altogether but the tiniest one is a cute lil doll and not a creepy grain of rice lookin' thing....

but the old Sesame Street really got creative with the counting segments which is why i loved them so much as a kid.

  • The little "whoops!" at 0:40 always made me laugh as a child.

  • lol i dnt belive they didnt even paint the last one.discraceful

  • There was not much room to paint anything besides the face, if you ask me.

  • The last one looks like a grain of rice XD

  • Ya, I was creeped out too.... they should have left it at 9.

  • Yeah the last one always freaked me out when I was a kid probably b/c it was kinda deformed and all the other dolls were like leering at it.

  • This is freaky in a cool, nostalgic way.

  • I miss the one where they went to a doll factory to watch them being put together.

  • the 10th one looks like a thumb. HAHA

  • I was also always very creeped out by the tenth doll as a kid... so unformed and spooky looking with almost no features... the embryo doll!

  • I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one creeped out by that last doll. Probably because the music backing it gets sparse and scary. Maybe that was the animator's intent?

  • matryoshka came from Japan.1 st Pokemon in the world.

  • This is sooooooooo adorable! :-)

I m actually thinking of getting these dolls.Actually,i saw them at IKEA.

  • Adorable.

  • my next video might feature this music

  • Ах, какой вы дурок!

  • I am 37 and have been obsessed with these dolls ever since I was little because of SS.

  • I love these dolls and this clip. Claire's (at the mall) sells glittery ones that I bought for my daughter!

  • Sesame Street sparked my LoVe of Russion Dolls! Thank you for sharing...I am now obsessed...

    hee hee...

    Star*

  • 2.ahh(or huh)3.ooff 5.huh 6.squish 7.gasp 10.huh huh ahh huh ahh. thats all.

  • That 10th doll still creeps me out a bit, it looks very premature. The 9th doll needs to put that one back inside cuz it ain't done yet, it needs to cook a little longer.

  • @Akira625 haha the 10th doll looked like a larva..

  • @Akira625 That is true, looks like a ghost! Creepy Ukrainian dollies!

  • I think they're called Soviet Bloc dolls now.

  • Wow, I haven't seen this one since I was 5 or 6 years old. I'm 26 now, lol. Love it! My grandmother gave me a set of russian dolls when I was a kid.

  • lol! #10 Eeeeeeedie beeedie doll. :)

  • Ah nostalga! sounds kinda like tetris music.

  • Sweet!

  • OMG this brings back some Sesame Street memories...

  • My set was really cheap, it had 4 dolls, they took this off? Maybe that was after I got too oldfor sesame street?

  • Those Russian dolls are cute

  • sweet jesus this is nostalgic as all hell

  • HAAHAHHAHAHA! sure is.

  • They probably checked that in advance.

  • After I saw this, I wanted to get a set of my own stack dolls. We lived in a rural area, so my mother found one for me at a special toy shop out of state one day. I was so happy! I couldn't believe she found one. I have it to this day.

  • Matroska dolls always look so depressed! I never fully understood the appeal at a young age but now I realized I don't care for that little novelty!

That 7th doll at :47 sounded more like she had to go to the can. :-)

  • When I went to the USSR in 1988, I bought a metroshka nesting doll that ended up having TWELVE dolls inside. Yes, the last doll is about the size of a shelled peanut, and only has two dots for eyes and another dot that could be either her nose or mouth. I was utterly thrilled to learn they really do make dolls that go down that small!

  • I'm glad that you posted this video back on YouTube. My mom bought a set of Russian nesting dolls from Russia back in 1997 except there were only 5 dolls instead of 10. I use to like the Russian Dolls video from Sesame Street.

  • another classic...thanks so much. You are bringing back some great memories. :-)

  • Doh! I meant to give your comment a thumb up.

  • This is different from tpirman1982's clip. This is cool. AT least theres now wrong way dummy in it! HA!

  • What does the fifth doll say at time index 00:31?

I've always wondered, since I was a kid! Sounds to me like she's saying "bugs" or something.

  • She said "hello".

  • I hear it now! Thanks! :o)

  • @CGAWLEY Shes saying "I love Satan"

  • It sounds like a synthesizer in fast speed.

  • @mstatz the synth used is called a Moog. Really cool, and a lot of fun to play on.

  • Weird music, any idea what kind of instrument is being played? These types of dolls are called Matroyska I believe. Not sure on the spelling. Heh, last one looked like it didn't quite take

  • That last doll looked like it melted.

  • Well, clearly, the last one was severely premature.

  • Great, Watta. "Third Degree Doll" is now seared into my brain. LOL
