  • this may well be in the top 10 most boring videos on u tube!

  • you rely to much on machines and what will happen if its broken --> life stops

  • i do this every year so that means i'm an extreme woodcuter?

yeah right -.- you havesnt seen real extreme woodcuting

  • ale ciota chyba Amerykanin

  • He's making it a lot harder than it needs to be. If he'd pull that sledge back every time it bounced off the wedge, and pull it into an overhead swing instead of trying to use it like a hammer he'd save a lot of energy.

  • chopping wood chopping wood chopping as we go ;)

  • I expected something completely different from the title... this is extreme?

this looks like morning excercise to me!

  • extreeeemeeee

  • Inappropriate title, that's for sure. Not even close to extreme, and not really woodworking either. Heck, they didn't even show the log falling in half!

  • Cricket bats used to be made this way by splitting the Willow into rough bat shaped pieces before shaping.

  • Pilgrim with hammer. That guy is not too hammer savy, but managed.

  • ok but where is the extreme part?

  • What a coincidence...My 4 year old son has the same hammer you are using...

  • @dulciaan8 thats funny that you somehow think a perfectly legitimate tool is a childs toy.

  • @MastaSquidge Sarcasm...Get it? It's a SMALL hammer! That's what I mean.

So no extreme woodworks here at all. Let me know if you need more explanation.

  • It's extreme when you miss the wedge and hit your wood

  • So making planks could be done this was with multiple splits

  • Learn to swing that tool. Spread your legs shoulder width. You should put your forward hand near the business end of the tool to make lifting it easier as well. Then when you go down bring the tool down directly center of your legs. You will hit the mark every time and use far less energy. The key is to just let the hammer fall on to the target. It has the weight to the job itself if you use it right.

  • Watch this guy, he is using good technique explained in my previous post.

    watch?v=kFI_Nnb7eyM

  • Hello There

Chopping wood is a great place to start !

  • @lethentymill no finding it is lol : )

  • It's difficult to answer your question in one sentence - I'd like to !

It's to do with fun, skill, history, satisfaction, discovery, creativity, being alive etc.

Having used, and depended on machine tools for 30 years I find this approach refreshing.

I could go on and on but the best thing to do is to try it for yourself. Have you ever done this kind of thing ?

  • this is extreme? why?

  • heres a history fun fact before saws and todays stuff how the ancients cut wood was like that wedges stone hammers and stone axes hes working hard

  • I use to be like that as a vegetarian.

  • Hand the guy standing there a hammer - he can hit from the other side!

And - hit the dang wedge!
