  • Been 35 yrs since I have done chemical developing but I thought the silver was recovered from the developer and the fixer just stabilized the emulsion after the stop bath stopped the development process. Also if you have to aerate developer for tanks you can use nitrogen gas instead of air, it slows the oxidation of the developer. We used nitrogen at Williams & Meyer in Chicago in the mid 70's. I'm still in awe that there are sources for supplies & interest - has me wanting to get back into it

  • Thanks, Jeff. It's so nice to see someone besides myself still working with film. Your videos should be very helpful to photography students. As far as I know, most schools still require darkroom work in photography cariculums.
