I saw this live, it's really a remarkable piece, detailed, layered...it's incredibly difficult to play. I admit it took me a bit of time to re-frame how I was listening. I ended up being amazed.
I would have liked to have seen more faces and wide outs and camera angles. Ah just as I typed this they showed a couple of faces... 3/4 of the way through. Beautiful, gentle music, very nice! Very skilled. I'm amazed they keep all of those notes straight.
These people should kill themselves, what a colossal amount of time they would have saved instead of coming up with this shit. Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
while the skill involved in playing this is immaculate im sure, as a non-percussionist i must say this was terribly boring and I could only make it about 3/4 through before I realized nothing exciting and / or anything that would be entertaining or sound good was going to happen
@sunevrain9 So, why listen? I am not a musician, much less a percussionist (although, next reincarnation, watch out). I LOVE this piece and it's beautifully performed here. Excitement - tick. Entertainment - tick. You - you go now.
@mellifiedman23 Yeah it's definitely not all in 4/4.... I'm pretty Steve Reich did a lot of really radical timings, maybe just to confuse people like me, but you're not fooled cause you know how to talk shit on youtube.
@mellifiedman23 Guess what... I own the score to this and there is literally not one single measure of 4/4 in this entire piece. So, why don't you know your stuff before you call somebody out.

@sunevrain9 is it the instruments being used or is it just that you're not a fan of Steve Reich's compositions?

any keys instruments were the way to go for me, once one gets the four mallet grip down, its epic awsomeness all the time!

I didn't think I would enjoy this type of quartet, but I am pleasantly surprised. The ryhthms and synchopation are wonderful!

i am doing a thesis about him, particularly his fascinating rhythm....
thanks for posting!

@dukedome do you comment on his use of 6/8, 2/4, 5/8, 7/8?
Do you talk about the melody line in the vibes being interpreted as in 4 rather than 3/2 as written?
