  • I'm thinking about buying this camera but, can you change your lens's or are you stuck with just one lens?

  • Superb review. It was a split decision re the currently available ultrazooms, but lthings like Sony's sweep pano and their infolithium battery display brought me over the line to the Cyber-shot.

  • Received the HX00V today. It's a great cam in it's class due to all the possibilities and the fact it can be used totally manualy. Bought a 32Gb SDHC SanDisk Extreme class10 30Mb/s too.

Thnx a lot 4 all the vid's you've put online. Because of them I made my final desicion. Keep up the good work! :o)

  • I have this God's Gift xD lol

  • i was wondering....im planning to go to a lady gaga concert in 2013 and would you recomend this camera for pics and video...and do you think i could take the camera into the arena

  • @dragonballzfreak80 - I am producing a video of pictures from subscribers. I have received some incredible pictures from subscribers, some of which are of live bands performing from very far away. The zoom is incredible on this camera. I usually take my HX9V when I attend public performances, so it slips away hidden into my pocket... Some venues prohibit the use of larger cameras--you may want to check with them first! Good luck and have fun.

  • Great video, good explanations, simple but really usefull.

  • @emaster00 - Thanks--simple and useful is exactly what I aim to achieve! Glad you liked it. :)

  • I found that the cap on the lens comes out too easily. I have to be careful when I pack my camera in a bag, because most of the time my cap comes off during transport and I'm scared to scratch my lens.

  • can we use it for make movie ???

  • I have this camera and I am very happy with it!

Check my Uganda movie, made with the HX100v.

  • I just bought my Hx100V it's super awesome! I LOVE IT!!!! but i do have a queastion regarding the Movie mode, when i switch to it via the dial or the dedicated Recording button, the camera makes this buzzing noise for a second or less... is that normal??

another thing is, the shooting button , its just one click for shoooting and the previous cameras i had had two clicks one for focus and the 2nd for shooting,,, so is that also normal?? thanks alot in advance (thumbs up for the gr8 rev) =)

  • @ahmedjonz113 - Yes, that sound kind of freaked me at first, too. It's normal, though. Regarding the shutter button, half way down for focus then all the way down to take the shot. Thanks for the feedback

  • which one is better? this or the Nikon Coolpix P500?

  • @SuriBabii - If I was looking at buying a superzoom right now, I'd look at a couple other cameras.. You might want to check out the Nikon Coolpix P510. It's got 42x optical zoom. Another one worth scoping out is the Canon PowerShot SX40. I haven't logged time with those cams, so I have to draw from my experience with the HX100V, which is such an awesome camera. I can't wait to see what the next one (HX200V?) is going to have. You know I'm getting that one, though!

  • I see my HX9V on the table Love that camera. edit oops that's the HX5

  • I see my HX9V on the table Love that camera.

  • @PhuckYuew - I just took my HX9V on a trip. I've got a lot of respect for that camera. It was very easy to carry and I got some amazing video and pics from it. Hmmm...should I produce a samples video from that trip (Seattle)?

  • Michael, just wanted to thank you for all the great videos you have made talking about the Sony HX100v. I recently purchased one and am enjoying it greatly!

  • @cemetarygates82 - You're welcome. I'm glad you enjoy the videos and especially that you're enjoying your new camera. It's an amazing camera.

  • Just ordered this and looking to find some good memory cards. Which 32 GB card do you recommend?

  • @NRessler08 - I've had good luck with the Transcend Class 10 cards. I've never had any issues with Sony's high speed cards, though. Check out my Q&A video for more info on this, though: v=SC8-FthWx5U

  • Should I buy this one over the Lumix fz150?, are they both even comparable?

  • @trapazza - The FZ150 only goes to 24x optical zoom. It does RAW. It does 12fps continuous shooting. They're in the same league, but I have huge respect for the video capabilities on the HX100V and therefore lean towards it, between the two.

  • PLEASE UPLOAD SOME LONG EXPOSURE VIDEOS !

  • True resolution 9.7 MP not (16.2 )

    snapsort.com/cameras/Sony-HX100v-specs

  • How much does it cost ?

  • @wanted6991 - Price varies depending on location, but usually fluctuates between $400-$450 USD.

  • If i order it online, how do i know whether im geting an original japanese one or some other else ?

Becouse i found a picture of the down side of HX100V which had MADE IN CHINA

    on it.

    Thanks.

  • hallo everybody, how long can i film if I use sdhc 16gb card and film at highest quality? BC recommend 16 gb, can I ask why?

I want to buy this cam, but i red a lot of bad reviews about it. Shoud I buy this one or wait for the next eddition?

plz help, cause there is just one cam over in my city!

  • I'm very impressed with this camera, for a bridge camera it may be the best I have seen.

Does it have a mic input jack by any chance ? I could be asking too much from this camera. LOL

  • @TacticalHadoken - Unfortunately, it doesn't have mic inputs. You're going to have to go to an external mic/recorder and sync the audio up to the video later if you want the best quality video/audio.

  • I just wanna know which SDHC memory you recomend me to use, i was looking at the PNY Professional....

  • Hey what is the difference between Sony DSC hx100 and DSC hx100v...

  • @mishalferoj - The HX100V model has built-in GPS to record the location where you shot your pics/vids.

  • hey i got two quastions: first how long can you film with it, cause in one review i read that there is a limit. Secondone is what does the person under me means with discontinued?

    Could you plz reply!

Ps: sorry for the language, i do my best

  • @MsKandahar - The video limit is 29 minutes (as long as you have a card big enough to support the files). Many retailers have recently listed this camera as discontinued due to availability issues. As of today (1/22/2012), it is listed as 'In Stock' on Sony's online store. Many people have contacted me to let me know that they've got the camera on order but with a delay in shipping.

  • I would love a sample of the intelligent auto that you mentioned takes 3 shots and then gives you the best of all three and also would like to learn more about the anti-motion blur.

Regardless, I've loved the series. Sony said I won't get mine until February.

  • But why did you say that the sensor makes problem while I'm in video mode.....If i can deactivate this little sensor then whats the problem??????

  • @Rabbytheboss007 - I was still exploring features of the camera when I did this review (after one week of use). I've had the camera much longer and have done many other videos to explain the features -- be sure to check them out! Yes, the LCD mode can be toggled between the viewfinder/LCD screen or automatically by toggling with the button, so no worries about that any more.

  • BC, Huge thnx 4 all the reviews you made about the DSC-HX100v. I've won points in a National lottery and may spent them on a variety of gifts including the HX-110V. Read a lot of online reviews too and some people think this Sony cam feels 'plastic'. Can you help me out?¿

  • @michelroskam - It is plastic, but weight feels good, textured group feels nice.

  • Great reviews and tips! Thanks!

I'm thinking of buying a HX100V but reading lots of reviews on the net, I often read that the camera is rather slow in use.

    What's your comment on that?

Did you compare the camera with other bridgecamera's?

  • @nissorap - There is a delay when performing some actions or switching modes, and the zoom is done with a motorized lens so it's not as fast as a DSLR. For the price, it is a great value, but it is true that it could be faster...

  • Just purchased this camera and wanted to know if it's normal for the continuous shooting to "process" everytime? If so, can I stop that to take more pictures (fast)? I also have the cannon S3IS and must have gotten use to the burst w/out processing? I can take 1 picture or several w/out changing the settings, also with the cannon I get all pretty clear photos, with the HX100V I get about 1 out of every 10? wondering if you could do a video or tell me what I'm doing wrong, before I return it?

  • @clubballmom2 - The camera does take time to process continuous shots. It must process the images before it can free up its processor and memory for the next batch of continuous shots. Just think of it as 'continuous shots until you get up to ten, then you have to wait for a while.' This is much different than DSLR's, which often have the ability to perform true continuous shots as long as the write speed of the card supports the data transfer for the image type selected.

  • I hate waiting when changing through scenes/shooting modes for the decription of them. Is there anyway i can remove or speed it up so i can catch a momment faster! THANKS NICE VIDEO

  • @skootb2 - Unfortunately, you can't decrease the wait time. It would be nice to have an option to reduce the delay with a setting under options, but it's a bummer that you can't.

  • Is it possible to charge the battery using the charger that comes with the Sony HX1?

  • @guzforster - Yes, I use my HX1 charger all the time. I had also purchase an AC Adapter for the HX1 and it works on the HX100V.

  • What is the major difference between HX9v And 100vii think they are almost same except size and zoom.Ans

  • @tomcruise19002 - Check out my comparison video of the two cameras - v=ooQVqLuOPeQ.

  • i m not pro at taking pics but i have decided to buy it today and my pic's look like if i m a pro

  • is it okay for handeling

  • @zcamart - Yep, feels great. Really good ergonomics on this camera.

  • This Camera is having Picture problem in Video Shot

  • My budget is less then $500.

    which one is better?

    1.Sony DSC-HX100V

    2.Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ150

    3.Canon T3.

  • I am a user of dis CAM.. I am having a huge problem with the view finder sensor..Can I deactivate this sensor for a while??? help me dude

  • @Rabbytheboss007 - Yes, there's a little button by the viewfinder (LCD/Viewfinder). Pressing it toggles between LCD/Viewfinder/Automatic Toggle. Hope this helps!

  • @BinaryCafe does it have external mic?

  • @KRE8TVT - No

  • will we be able to adjust the shutter speed...like in dslr

  • @prashantgbhat - Yes, you can adjust the shutter speed. Check out my vid tutorial - v=ARYvfFdCalw.

  • How fast computer do you need for a camera like this? :P

  • I need help with 2 things! I usully select the "soft snap" in the scene selection to take pics when i'm out with friends.. i found it to be the best one compared with the rest but i rlly dnt like how it contrasts the image! when its dark the pics appear orange-ish! Which is the perfect setting? Another qs, The other day I went out &forgot my mem card at home so i took a few pics but i dont knw how to transfer the pics to the computer! i tried connecting the usb but it wouldn't work!please help

  • @mountainsxoxo - In low light settings, sometimes the white balance needs to be adjusted. I'm going to post a GPS video soon. The next one after that will discuss white balance, so stay tuned.

  • This camera is just downright awesome. I just got it for Christmas and took a video test zoom of my reef aquarium. I kept saying WOW throughout the video lol. This is the only camera that I did not have to mess with the white balance to get accurate colors on my corals. Your videos have been a huge help as I was trying to figure out how to manually zoom in video mode. Thanks for the great info. Keep the videos coming. Thumbs up from me.

  • this camera is already discontinued and its not the end of the year yet.. LOL

  • @girotube Mostly all Sony cameras are replaced by a new model yearly which is why older models are discontinued within a year. It's sort of a way for Sony to make us go out buy the new models to replace the old ones.

  • I have just purchased a Sony DSC-HX100V and found out that it isn't a heat sensor, it senses when you are infront of it and automatically changes from screen to electronic viewfinder.

  • Hi, i buy this camera but is really bad.i think, lost the money.

  • How does GPS help???

  • How fast fast computer do you need for a camera like this?

  • I know Nikon makes cameras like these, except very lightweight. Would you consider this camera lightweight for it's size?

  • @AllstarWKDArmy - Yes, the weight of the camera is good...not too heavy, considering its size.

  • anyone from france..what is the latest price of this camera there?

  • just add raw ,articulated screen, ability to capture slowmo vids, boost iso, and it's perfecttttttt

  • you can turn off sensor by pressing FINDER/LCD button ;)

    Hope it helps :)

  • Thanks so much for this video! I just followed and duplicated your efforts.....Now I know!

  • are you going to come up with more video's on this camera? Im really interested in learning some of the manual features.

  • @verhoffj1 - Yes, I have many more videos planned. I have very limited time to produce these videos. Don't worry, though--there are more videos in the works. :)

  • Is it possible to use "other" manual settings during video? eg. is all of the photo-settings available when you shoot video? (iso, shutter speed, white balance etc).

And then, when you showed us the different video recording modes, I couldn't see a 1080/30p, is that available or? Would be pretty stupid otherwise, but gotta ask.

    Thanks.

  • @henke9100 - Regarding the 1080 at 30fps, yeah--you can do it, but you have to use MP4 video mode instead of AVCHD. I made a video showing how to do that (v=M_ZK5Lbchb0).

  • just bought this camera ..and was messing with settings (which i know nothing about !! and have backlight staying on my screen!! what is this ?? and how do I get it off ..Is there a way to put camera back to factory settings and start over ? thank you

  • @4mawmaw - If you have a really bright background and your subject is hard to see, it can result in bad quality. For example, if you take a picture of somebody standing in front of a patio window/door and it's sunny out, they can be really hard to see. The backlight mode helps adjust. In auto mode, this should toggle on and off depending on lighting conditions.

  • i got a slow computer would it work if i down load the video into a online video editor this might bypass my computer

  • @richardarichter123 - You can set the camera to MP4 mode and shoot video at 720 with 30fps. That would give you good quality and would take a lot less time to render edited video on a slower computer. Otherwise, you're right--you can upload the footage and use cloud editing. YouTube recently added some editing capabilities. I hope that helps!

  • @BinaryCafe thanks yeah just bought the cam yesterday it work good thanks

  • good film

  • żal

  • I have one of this, what is the use of custom button?

  • @17garfield21 - Good question. I'll cover this in an upcoming vid, garfield. :)

  • very nice review sir! what sd class card is best for video cappture of 1080p 60fps also what would be the pc system requirements for it to run smoothly on pc? i was planning to buy the canon sx40 because of the 35x zoom but their 1080p video is only 24 fps so my choice is now down to this sony hx100v and the panasonic fz150. can you give advice between the two sir. from my research the hx100v's video is limited to 30 min only while the fz150's video is unlimited downside is 24x zoom only.

  • @megatedxzx - I use mostly 16GB SDHC Transcend card class 10 cards for shooting my video. Works great. Seriously, the video on the HX100V is really really good. You can shoot at 60fps in AVCHD (in the States) [50fps where PAL standard is used], but you can also shoot video in MP4 mode at 30fps. I have a bunch of sample videos you can check out to see how good the video quality is on HX100V. Check out my HX100V playlist - playlist?list=PLAEE35B8C10C864BF

  • @BinaryCafe Thanks for the help! I'm going to get this next year & can't wait! :)

  • Will this camera ever lower in price?

  • @AshleyyRocks29 - The lowest I've seen it is $399 USD with free shipping at Best Buy and Amazon. When a new model comes out (don't know when), the price will probably drop but it will be very, very difficult to find one at the lower price when companies are clearing their inventory. In my opinion, the camera is priced right, at $450. If you can find it around $425 that's a good deal. $400? Get it!

  • Does the Sony DSC HX9v have Background Defocus mode like the DSC HX100v does?

  • @tbb41123 - Yes, that feature is on both of those cameras.

  • THANK YOU @BinaryCafe you helped me a lot continue to give the youtube users great videos....

  • how about the microphone can i add external mic??? and the built in mic is it stereo?

  • @biplovify - Nope, you can't add an external mic. The camera's mic is stereo.

  • @biplovify - As Michael says. On the other hand, the built-in mic is very good for recording sound, and the camera has wind suppression too.

  • does the manual mode work for movies too?

  • @TheJonOhBoy - Yes, although it's a little quirky. Check out my video on how to do it (v=ARYvfFdCalw). I used the manual focus to pull off some nice focus effects in my latest autumn samples video (v=_ofMqQljWiM) - at around 1:10.

  • This video was very helpful i have a question for you or any one here who can help me i have got this camera and i like to shoot alot of videos with it. I have a Mac and when i try to import my footage to imovie it uploads with no problem but when i try to put it into final cut pro i cant import. And for some reason when i look for the video data i cant find it in the files on my SD card. But the video information will come up in imovie but not final cut. PLEASE HELP ME FIND MY VIDEO FILES ON SD

  • @1991djay - Yep, they really buried the HD video files. They can be a bit of a challenge to find, at first. Just navigate through these folders and you'll find the HD MTS files: AVCHD > BDMV > STREAM. I cover this in detail in Q&A Cafe episode #4 (v=ucWGns11A-E).

  • @BinaryCafe - btw, you can jump to 7:38 in the video to get right to the part that talks about the folder structure, if you want to check out the vid...or, if you found the files, you should be set. :)

  • and also, would this be a good or at least an ok camera for someone who is fairly new to this? ;)

  • thank you sooooo much for this review, When i first bought this camara i felt kindda LOST cause its my first camara and you helped alot thank you. BTW whats your REAL name??

  • @TheSweet0melody - I'm glad the review helped out. Be sure to check out all the tips and tricks videos on my channel (or on binarycafe site). I've got many more planned, too. ;) btw, my name is Michael

  • i just got it today, New York next weekend for me, Thanks you for the information ;)

  • If you don't like your LCD screen turning off from the sensor whether it's motion or heat just bring the screen out and when it turns off press the LCD button and it will stay on regardless of something in front of the sensor or not

  • Thanks, I watched the video again and saw the burst feature.... Do you know if the conversion lenses I have for my DSC H1 will work on HX100 as well?

  • Does it have the rapid shoot button like the DSC H1?

  • @shirleyu812 - Yes, the HX100V has a burst mode to capture up to 10 pictures in a second. It pauses to process the image after shooting the ten images, so it's not like a DSLR (i.e., continuous shooting). On the HX1, there was a dedicated button towards the front of the camera. The HX100V doesn't have that button; however, on the navigation button (up down left right), you can press left to go into burst mode. BTW, on the HX1, pressing left took you to macro mode (no button on HX100V for that).

  • i have a question, does it take video with sound?

  • @alejandraavelar1 - Yes, with its built-in stereo mic's. BTW, I've produced several samples videos, so you can check out the video quality and audio quality, too.

  • i have a question, does it takes video with sound?

  • can i connected with microphone?

  • @Aopa007 - No, there is no external mic input on this camera.

  • Hi is hx100v a slr if not what is it i am planning to get one and what is gprs in the cam do u think this is the best deal for this price or i can get a better one !!!:)

  • @pk8121991 - The HX100V is a superzoom, bridge camera. GPS records the location of the camera into your pictures so you can track where your pictures were taken.

  • great review. my friend just picked up this camera for a cruise next week.

  • Great review, thanks a lot!

Is it ok to buy this camera NOW (because of price and a new model?!)?

  • @Karle07 - Eventually Sony will come out with a successor to the HX100V. I don't recommend waiting for it, because it will probably be a while...but even if the new version comes out mid-2012 (I'm not saying it will), the HX100V will still be an awesome superzoom camera with incredible video capabilities. After several months, the HX100V is still my "go-to", carry it everywhere camera. Even when I buy the successor to the HX100V, I'll still use my HX100V, just like I still use my HX1, today!

  • In video mode is possible to select all parameters? like iso, shutter, exposure etc…

  • @thestoryofakingdom - No, you don't have access to all the parameters when shooting video.

  • Please give me the focuslock function in sony HX100V

  • @gvsssraju - If you want to do manual focus on the HX100V, check out the video that I made - [v=ARYvfFdCalw].

  • Does it have black and white feature or selective coloring?

  • @7539amw - It has different color modes, including B&W. I have produced several videos detailing various modes on the camera. Check out my HX100V playlist and watch the 'Sony DSC-HX100V - Tip - Aperture Priority Plus Sepia and B&W Pictures' vid to see black and white. Regarding selective coloring, you can't mask out specific subjects, though. Cheers!

  • hey

i cannot acess the manual focus option in the program mode

    please help through this

  • Thank yoou~ !

  • hye..anyone stay in u k?how much the latest price here?

  • hye..anyone stay in uk?how much the latest price here?

  • Hi, does the camera have slow motion function?

    Thank you : )

  • @PoweredByCaffeine1 - No, but it shoots vid at 60fps (NTSC) or 50fps (PAL), so you can do some cool slo-mo in software. Check out my slo-mo samples video to see the effect. I used Vegas Pro and raw footage shot in AVCHD PS mode on the HX100V.

  • @PoweredByCaffeine1 - There is not a dedicated slo-motion function on the camera. Check out my slo-motion rollercoasters video, though [v=5S01Sv1HLb0]. Since the HX100V captures 60fps (NTSC) or 50FPS (PAL), you've got adequate frames to do really good quality slo-mo in an external editor like Vegas Pro or Premiere Pro. Plug-ins ($) like Boris BCC (Optical Flow) or Twixtor will help make slo-mo better.

  • Hi, does the camera have slow motion function?

    Thank you : )

  • Great Review ! Thank You !

  • can you tell me what's better- sony hx100v or nikon d3100? thanks a lot :)

  • i would like to know whether it is water proof or not???

  • @13579srikanth - No, the HX100V and water are not good friends.

  • BinaryCafe

I orders this camera from a site that sells them in kits. (tripod, screen protector ... )

But I did nor realize it was not coming with an Ac adapter or charger can it be charged through USB

also im not at all familiar with Sony I'm more of a Nikon person i notice it does not have a remote option however with Nikon they have a USB remote to controls shutter for longer exposures than 30 Seconds

do you know if this camera supports that or if Sony even makes one.

  • @lazerman121 - The HX100V comes with an AC adapter/charger. You don't charge it through the USB. There's no remote control for the HX100V (bummer).

  • This is sooooo coooLLLL!!!! m goona go bangkok in the last week of this month! this camera goes to my shopping cart! :D thanks @Binarycafe ;)

  • will it work with mac?

  • is it possible to plug in an external microphone for better audio quality

  • @ljohnsonljohnson9423 - No, the HX100V doesn't have external mic input(s).

  • hi. can you charge (batt) the camera while it's shooting continuous video on a tripod? thanks!

  • @stuwwy - Yes, you can shoot video while powering camera from wall power. You don't even need to have the battery in the camera to shoot video, if powered from wall.

  • Great Review, it was very informative!

I've only recently begun to be interested in photography, and I'm using a Nikon CoolPix L100 right now. Thing is, I want to be able to go into more advanced photography without needing to upgrade to a pricier camera later on.

So I guess my main question is how does the range of photo quality and settings for this camera compare to a DSLR camera?

Also, how well does this do when taking photos at night? I never seem to get good photos of the moon or stars. :/

  • @podracer35 - (1 of 2) The HX100V is a great camera, but it isn't a DSLR. You can't swap out lenses and it has a smaller sensor. To be fair, the price on the HX100V is ridiculously great for what you get. By the time you buy a DSLR and get a lens with zoom close to what you do on the HX100V, you'll end up spending a couple thousand dollars. There are absolutely benefits to doing that, but the gap is narrowing with cameras like the HX100V. If it had a bigger sensor, that would be great...

  • @podracer35 - (2 of 2) Many people think that a DSLR is going to solve all their low-light problems magically. That's not true...there is generally a sharp learning curve associated with them. At a higher level, there's a lot to understand (ISO, exposure...photography, in general). The HX100V has enough settings/features to give you great low-light pictures. (Use a tripod!) It takes practice, though. Having said that, DSLR's give you better low-light pics; you get what you pay for.

  • very good camera with true hd....thnxx binarycafe....

  • Can this camera take a picture while recording video?

I'm trying to choose between the Canon PowerShot SX40 HS and this Sony DSC-HX100V wich one should guys buy? I'll be using it indoors from animals and people and outdoors for macro, animals and landscape

  • @sandermans15 - Yes, you can take still pictures while shooting video...unless you're shooting in the AVCHD PS 28Mbps mode (that's the highest quality mode). When you use that mode, the camera is using all available resources to encode the HD video.

  • @BinaryCafe, Ok great. Thx for your fast reply!!! and very acurate information. Great work!!! :D

  • Added to the Cart :D

  • Does it have 1080p video recording

  • @MTflims - Yes, full HD 1920x1080 progressive at 60fps for US/NTSC version, 50fps for non-US/PAL version.

  • Very good reviews about this camera that i am about to buy...Thanks a lot.
