Does anybody have any "human factor" tip for getting the operators in the right mental level so they understand the importance of variation and attend everything they do with the purpose of achieving a six sigma level for the company? I wish I could do that with the people I work with but I don't have any certainty about where to begin. "Excessive Variation & unstable processes" is the best way to describe the place where I work, and I want to do something to improve there. Books? Anything?
@gregpm100 Almost, now that you read the TOC, you just have to read, understand and chew eaxh topic, and then digest through practice and participation in order to get SSBB - so, you are just few more steps away - continue your journey from the godo start you already made.
Why do we worship people like Jack Welch? He made millions maybe billions , but do we ask how? GE was made by hard working middle class americans, not him. He sent many of those jobs overseas to people who work for pennies. Thats not being smart thats greed straight up. Of course hes not the only one, many companies did this, but GE became the biggest. Why is our economy shot? Why does the government have to provide all kinds of bailouts? Ask Jack where our jobs went.
They may have hired morons but they probably don't know it. Anyone who falls for all those web sites showing normal distributions drifting by 3 sigma, isn't real bright.
please participate in an engineering survey. In this survey you can find a summary of the topics that Quality Engineers are working on in different industries (and add into it)
You can find the survey in my YouTube channel under section "Website"
is a six sigma a company that uses stats and communication for usage of finding customers and getting it to them in a faster way more productive way using that to boost profit margins to advance the company to be more economical in what they do and how they do it? ....if you know what that means....good if not ah look it up...

Jack Welsh is a complete sleazebucket who fired normal people to feather his bed. He perpetuated a long running accounting and stock fraud with GE and paid so much in campaign contributions that in a number of years GE paid no taxes, but received billions from the government. He now lives like a drug lord and still pulls compensation from GE. Its good that he appears to have Alzheimer so now we won't have to listed to his vacuous BS anymore.
lol, I guess some times ,just sometimes variation is good ! for that I heard about that book "what color is your paraschute" I mean when it comes to career change.. another note :this looks like an interesting interview any chance someone can give access to the whole thing ..thanks
I have worked for GE; they do not practice the areas you have described. They look after there employee's & employee's word hard for GE. They come together for community service activies (painting schools, holding birthday and anniversary parties for employee's, and extend benefits to family members). While Lean Six Sigma doesn't have much to do with these cultural values, they none-the-less exist. While GE also has a policy of perfomance targets where low performers are managed and coached.

“Focus on the customer” now where did Mikel Harry say that ? Sounds more like good old TQM to me.
Six Sigma's foundations are absolute rubbish, such as the "unavoidable long term drift" of 3 sigma.
TQM/ Continuous Improvement is now being used to try to fill in the gaps.

6 sigma companies are companies that have realised they have hired morons.
Now they have to use 6-sigma to tie the morons into endless meetings that so that they can do no more harm

Jack Welch is the best CEO, he is amazing

@renataaustralia - you obviously didn't work for Neutron Jack. Jeff Immelt is a much better CEO... if we had to pick between them that is.

@CCsigma
If you're serious, forget about six sigma. It's very notion is based on nonsense.
Google "six sigma lessons from deming"
Read Dr Don Wheeler's books.

Seems like tough-love. I'm hoping Mikel Harry's The Great Discovery works in adding the human element more into six sigma processes.
