They are well trained but the problem is they have very outdated equipment/guns. Poor bullet proof vests as we saw in the case of Bombay attacks. Its not their fault Indian Gov does not give them what they need. Some times they do but it takes decades for them to get it. While they need it now !

The commandos who took part in the Mumbai attacks weren't the para commandos. They were NSG commandos, an Indian equivalent to the SWAT team. The Mumbai Police was ill-equipped, not the commandos. The commandos had difficulty with logistics. They reached 7hrs late.

I think you are reffering to the India police which used to have old weapons not the Indian military. The military are well equipped and the Indian commandos are one of the best in the world, initially the marine commandos (MARCOS), where put in a situation that they werent trained for in Mumbai. These are the desert commandos and they didnt come in Mumbai, now the Indian police too are getting their acts together. The F-INSAS program by the indian army for a future soldier is one of a few.

In Kashmir, the insurgency is being supported by Pakistan and when you have state supporting terrorists its very difficult ...

when such operaion takes place...it takes time ..1.intelligence gathering..of the situation than rescue plan ...and finally assault plan...for this architectural plan of buliding...exit points floor plan etc etc are to be needed...with help of local police...and only after that ops is executed...ops like taj which is very huge,pinpointing location of friendly and enemies is very tough..its media hype regarding logistic problem .Isolation of partcular area is job of local police not NSG
