Either my connection has just completely died, or that was the worst quality video ive ever seen. and since I can still type this in, im guessing the latter...
I remembered this advert well, but nobody else ever did as I loved the song and never knew who sang it until a few years ago when I discovered the ad on another website.
Almost the same for me. I was a child when I first saw his ad and I was scared by it. But I loved the music from the first time I heard it. And it took some 10 years to discover what is this song and who is the author of it.
I think I have the 90 second version of this ad ~ the longer the better in this case. Thanks to the Internet, I now know it was The Velvet Underground who sings the song. Trying to to figure that out 10 years ago seemed hopeless.
Very interesting comment by fentoc (6 months ago) about this ad being colourized. I thought it was one of the most stunning ads I had ever seen at the time.
I remember reading about this advert in a sci-fi mag years ago! Tony Kaye's first cut was something like 4 minutes long and he called it a work of art (well, I guess he would, really!). Apparently he wasn't too happy the only version ever showed was this one. There was no mention the music was anything other than Venus In Furs, though.
Incidently, it went on to say the entire film was shot in black & white, then coloured by hand in post production. The effect was great.
That would be Tony Kaye, who went on to direct the controversial American History X (1999), but the original ad had a different piece of music, or am I mistaken??
That was a BMW 8 wasn't it! had one for a few years - amazing car when not being chased by blokes in gold lame!

Am I wrong in thinking there was another later version of this ad with music by King Crimson? 21st Century Schizoid Man I think it was.

Perhaps there was ... I couldn't tell you for sure though.

A very deceptive advert, it looks as if it's for a make of car, but it's just for Dunlop tyres. ;) Brilliantly made though.

Brilliant, I guess it's been copied too many times to have an impact now but at the time it was really amazing.
