Hey Estonians, I am studying your beautiful language, but need some help. Are there any Estonian chat sites, where you can just log on, and regularly talk to Estonians? Please, please, please....
My high school girls choir is singing this for our state solo and ensemble contest!!!!!!! It's between me an my friend for the solo. It's about a baby that is rocked to sleep by a duck and the duck teaches her songs, right?
Kui mina hakkan laulemaie Laulemaie, luulemaie Siis jääb küla kuulamaie Valda sie jääb vahtimaie Kust sie laps on laulud saanud Sõnad viisile vedanud Sie käis Harjus oppimassa Virus aga viisi võttemassa Olgu terve siegi eite Kes käis pulmissa monessa Kes käis saajassa saassa Viis mind lauliku tubaje Pillipuuja permandulle Join mina lauliku kabasta Nüüd mina laulan linnukieli Pajatelen pardikieli
It's a beautiful tune, but it's got hundreds of versions because the soloist can choose which lines to add. So I put the words down according to how they sing it in this vid. It's a separate text message because otherwise the charactetr count goes over the limit.
Hm...good one:) I like them voices. Its interesting to listen to folks of different countries in the world, each has got its something special.Someone should make a music video for this one, showing forests, lakes and rivers, old man walking on the path, children running on the field bare feet and so on.
the song is about a singer, who tells about her childhood. That everyone looked at her when she started to sing and they wondered where did she learned how to sing like that. the song name is '' singer's childhood''
thank you:)it is nice song.u must be estonian.i got friends from talinn but i havent seen them since summer.i hope to see them again.estonian are cool.
This is a good video. I believe that there's a Finnish folk song that sounds rather similar to this. I think it's called 'Loituma'. Something a little more upbeat.

Does someone have English translation of this song?
DanannChild 2 years ago
It sounds strange in English, but it goes something like this:
When I start to sing,
to make up songs and poems
The whole village will be listening,
the whole parish will be looking
Where did this child get the songs,
find the melodies for the words
She went to Harju county to learn,
she went to Viru county to find tunes
(continued in the next post)

(continued from the previous)
Thank you, old mother,
who went to many a wedding,
went to a hundred parties,
Took me to see the minstrel,
to hear the musician play
I drank from the singer's cup
Now I can sing like a bird,
speak the language of the duck

Delightfull.What is this song about?
Klonsebia 3 years ago 5
Basicly:
If i start to sing(If i start to sing)
Sing and compose some poetry(Sing and compose some poetry)
then the crowd(village) will listen (then the crowd will listen)
then the crowd(township) will gawn (then the crowd will gawn)
and wonder where that child got her songs(where that child got her songs)
And then where she went, why and so on..

Loituma is an a capella group, not a song. Might the song you want be Ievan Polkka?
lostpangolin 3 years ago 4
I dont think that this Estonian song is similar to Loitumas Ievan Polkka. Might be another song from Loituma.
